Mr Selfridge

Hi I am wondering if anyone has enjoyed the "Mr Selfridge"series. I watched the first series about this amazing american nicknamed "Mile a minute Harry"because he breathed his ideas into existence and was a supreme delegator. Evidently in real life, Selfridge convinced the GPO (post and communications of that time) to give hime the number 1 so all people had to do to get his department store was dial 1!! What confidence and persuasion he had (and $$$$ too)

I love the historic elements of the series - a department store in the early 1900's in England - and of course the fashion , particularly the hair and hats.
The writing is quite clever as well but I just enjoy watching it!

I am looking forward to series 2 coming to Australia!

Cheers
Aggie:)

Is that the one about the purveyor of large kitchen appliances?

I'd not heard of it. It looked as if it was a series that I would enjoy though.
Set in 1909. I had a quick look at some reviews etc.. Costumes look amazing too.
A lot of the really good movies and series are on too late for me unfortunately. I'll put it on my "to watch" list though. :)

I have watched it since episode 1 and excited for the new season starting soon on PBS.
Selfridges was one of my favorite stores when I lived in London.
The show is wonderfully done with superb acting.
Definitely worth watching

I looked this up... Starts on PBS March 30 2014...

Might be different in different markets, etc.

I haven't seen this yet, but I do like period pieces.

Mrs. D,

Maybe there will be reruns of series 1. It took me a while last year to get into the story; but mid way thru; started looking forward the the next episode.

Now....looking forward to Series 2.

The best episodes are the ones without much of Jeremy Piven.

He is disappointing as an actor.

Must say that knowing the history of Harry Selfridge...I think Jeremy Piven is so well suited to the role!

Here is an interesting bit of background on Selfridges

tomorrow (Monday 3/10) is the last day to watch season 1 episode 1 video on PBS http://video.pbs.org/video/2363169243/

Season 2 starts at the end of March

Kitt 03-10-2014 09:18 AM

I see that you have to sign in to watch it.

Chemar 03-10-2014 10:06 AM

nope you don't have to sign in. It says so, but just ignore it. I watch a lot of PBS videos and have never ever had to register or sign in. You just enter your zip code so they can match you to your local PBS station

I have seen it a few times. Loved it for the same reasons. Series 2 begins
Soon here. I am in U S -- in Florida.

When I went to it it said to sign in so I clicked on that. Then it had a privacy policy and nothing about putting in a zip code. When I left the site it said that you could no longer view the video as it had expired.

I found the same thing when I used my search engine - the video has expired. I did try it yesterday when you mentioned it but it had already expired 3/10/14. I was too late. Oh well.

I also watch a lot of PBS shows. Actually we have numerous PBS stations to watch on TV.

There were signs that this season will be better than the first . . .. here's hoping.
Henri is back and I like his storyline with Agnes Towler.

jprinz99 04-08-2014 09:05 AM

binge watched most of season 1 recently when my PBS station re-aired them. Caught several and got into it. Even my husband watched a bit.Wonder if we will be able to buy/rent a disc of a season 1 to catch up.

Missed the Sunday night of Season 2, hope they re-run it befor next Sunday as I enjoy the show.

Chemar 04-08-2014 10:57 AM

Hi Jane
the current season's episodes can be watched online for a while after they air

At this link you will find the full episodes of Season 2, episode 1 and 2 available (you do not have to sign in, just select your local PBS station when prompted)

Love the show!

Nice to meet another fan!!!!
And as good as season 1 was, I like season 2 maybe a little more. Jeremy Piven's acting has toned down a little and it's appreciated.

Do you watch any other pbs shows? Any "call the midwife" fans out there?
