Sit back, and enjoy this gem from 1977

Just found this on youtube. I must have played this 10 times already. I remembered the song. But I didn't knew who sang it. For those who don't remember, it's Cory Daye singing with Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band.

And if you just said "Who on earth is THAT??" Believe me, when the singer (Cory Day), comes out and starts singing Cherchez La Femme, WELL, IT WILL ALL COME BACK TO YOU!!!

click on this link, and you'll be singing along in two minutes flat.

Enjoy and Happy Turkey Day.

I was 17 in 1977 and I don't remember this song at all! I listened to it twice and don't recognize it. Where was I????

kicker 11-26-2009 01:42 PM

I was 12 and had my own transistor radio and everyone had a big teen sister. I don't know this song.

kicker 11-26-2009 01:57 PM

I was 22, a rocker groupie wanna-be, a mis-- srent youth, etc. there was:

Walk this Way - Aerosmith
Hotel California - The Eagles
Somebody to Love - Queen
Fly like an Eagle- J. Miller Band
Tonight's the Night - Rod Stewart
Dancing Queen - Abba

:) I remember it! But it wasn't a big hit.

mrsD 11-26-2009 02:43 PM

I only vaguely remember it (I was 31).... I wonder if it was a regional hit, say more popular in NY etc than in other places?

There are alot of views on the YouTube so maybe it wasn't played much in certain areas?

This is what we were listening to in 1977-- on the prog rock/jazz station here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtSQFewjDD0
This is one of the earliest pieces by Renaissance. They were much bigger in Europe and Asia, than here, but we did get to 2 live concerts here--they still have a huge fan base, with the younger kids today.
They were the first prog rock/band that mixed classical/jazz/and beautiful lyrics. I still play them in my car! (Annie had the most remarkable voice) This one is one of my faves of theirs.

Unfortunately the YouTubes of Renaissance have poor audio...
This one is from a remastered CD...

You can hear how beautiful Annie can be!

This is more jazzy:

I remember ABBA. And I LOVED Mamma Mia!!!

My husband is a rocker. Heavy Metal to be exact. How can anyone be 62 years old and listen to heavy metal rock music through his earphones while on the computer IS BEYOND ME!!! I think he has lost it. He thinks I'm nuts. lol

I LOVED Freddy Mercury, the lead singer in Queen. Now that man could SING!!!

But this Cherchez La Femme, well, I remember thinking at the time (1977), that I LOVED THIS SONG. So the other night I was having coffee over at a neighbor's house and the husband starts singing Cherchez La Femme, and I said "wait a minute, I remember that song", and he starts going "Tommy Mottola, etc.etc." and as soon as I went home, I went on youtube because

YOUTUBE HAS EVERYTHING.

And I've been singing "Tommy Mottola lives down the road" (the first line of the song), and Alan wants to hit me over the head.

Oh well.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL!!

lol

Mel, when I heard the first two lines of the intro, I thought it was going to be this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OboZmKd1xc :)

Twinks:

As soon as I clicked on that link, and I heard the yodeling kind of singing they were doing (and I do remember the Whispering song), I immediately thought of Eddie Arnold. Don't know if you ever heard of him, but my father would put on his record, sit down on the couch, close his eyes and LISTEN. My father would say "That's how you hear music, YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES".

Here's the link to my father's favorite Eddie Arnold song. See the resemblance between the two?

'77, I was 14 and those are some of what I remember. Big rock and roll fan. I was also a big Dylan, Kristofferson, and Stewart fan. I was learning to play and had every Rod Stewart album I could get my hands on by the time I was 16.

Funny, thinking now, a punk kid singing I Would Rather Go Blind lol. Or If Lovin You is Wrong.

And Freddy - ahh! Queen is on my mp3 player. I'm still trying to learn Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

How about Roy Orbison? I've had You got It stuck in my head for weeks!

I CAN BEAT ALL OF YOU!!!! I went to a Santana Concert when I was 22. Went with my girlfriend Loretta. Since I was 22, that was 40 YEARS AGO.

At the Fillmore East. I'll never forget that.

So here's a clip of some of the best Santana music.

I had just cleaned my living room and done some chores, and I said "why not sit at the computer, relax, and catch up on some stuff". Then I see this post, I clicked on the link (and even though this is just in my head), I WAS ROCKING WITH SANTANA.

That man can play a guitar!!!!

A lot of people can play, but he plays sexy.

I love to turn on some good music when I clean. I get so much more done and the birds LOVE it. My lovebird's fave is Crazy, by Patsy Cline.

I learned to play it - not knowing the bird had heard it before - and she sits with her eyes closed, swaying on her swing every time she hears it. Too cute!

She used to belong to Gazell's grandmother, and we didn't know what they called the bird before. We named the bird Kal, but my dgd decided she was so small, she called her Minnie, and that kind of stuck.

As soon as you told the story about your bird I knew you would enjoy this.

My neighbor around the corner has an African Gray named Sunny.

Now Sunny SPEAKS CONSTANTLY. He mimics everything. I didn't quite believe this until they made me go into their house, go down into their beautiful furnished basement where this huge cage was and there, in this cage was Sunny.

They had her on tape whistling, and speaking. And they made a video of her. I told them to put it on youtube but they are still learning how to use this video camera. But I saw the video.

The daughter walks over to the cage and the bird goes "Good Morning Principessa". This was on video. I never laughed so hard in my life. Everyone in the house is Italian and they often speak in this language. So the bird speaks italian at times.

One time, someone walked over to the bird and said "Bon Giorno, como stai", (which means: Good Day, how are you), and the bird said (and I kid you not).

Eh!!!!!! You have to imagine how hard I laughed.

the bird also says "Come here, give me a kiss".

I'm telling you, it's hysterical.

OMG, that is too funny! Sometimes people ask me why I put up with the mess - birds throw seeds and feathers everywhere. you could clean all day and it wouldn't look like it.

But they are so funny, it's worth all the effort.
