New Kid Rock Song Reminded me of Cindy's thread....

Have you heard the new Kid Rock song "All Summer Long"? I love it. He samples two songs in it "Wherewolves of London" and "Sweet Home Alabama" which seems to just add to the nostalgia of the song.

It totally reminds me of Cindy's thread about her childhood memories from her favorite year.

"All Summer Long"

It was 1989, my thoughts were short my hair was long
Caught somewhere between a boy and man
She was seventeen and she was far from in-between
It was summertime in Northern Michigan
Ahh Ahh Ahh
Ahh Ahh Ahh

Splashing through the sand bar
Talking by the campfire
It's the simple things in life, like when and where
We didn't have no internet
But man I never will forget
The way the moonlight shined upon her hair

[Chorus:]
And we were trying different things
We were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing Sweet home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet home Alabama all summer long

Catching Walleye from the dock
Watching the waves roll off the rocks
She'll forever hold a spot inside my soul
We'd blister in the sun
We couldn't wait for night to come
To hit that sand and play some rock and roll

While we were trying different things
And we were smoking funny things
Making love out by the lake to our favorite song
Sipping whiskey out the bottle, not thinking 'bout tomorrow
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long

Now nothing seems as strange as when the leaves began to change
Or how we thought those days would never end
Sometimes I'll hear that song and I'll start to sing along
And think man I'd love to see that girl again

[Repeat Chorus x2]

Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long

I'm so glad you mentioned this. I thought I was going nuts because I was sure I heard a little Warren Zevon in there, but then it was Sweet Home Alabama. I thought that I'd heard it wrong. Great song!

He alternates between the two songs. It's really pretty cool how he does it.

Oh, oh! Wait till Nappy finds out that the "Kid" was reading the boards and took off with "her" idea!

By the way....where were in you in 89? You were just 17 then right? (coughing)

Read the lyrics ....this song is about Nappy...right down to the fishing!:D

Let me assure you, my dear Tarpy, I never did one of those things until well after I was 11.

I was in Fallon, NV in 1989 dodging F-14s, F-5s and F-18s in my Cessna 172 at the Navy base. Having a great time! In my spare time, I was a paralegal for a civil litigation law firm. But flying was more fun than going to court!

Cool song...thanks! Gotta love it! ;)

89? Man...that was so like...long ago! Where was I? Here. Not here. But here. Same town. Different house. (told you I don't get out much..) Let's see, a nine year old, five year old, DH, and a Dally! Good times, good times!

I Love Kid Rock (Bob Ritchie). He actually lives right down the road from me.

When he is in town he hangs out in a bar right by me. I have seen him numerous times and even drank a few beers with him. He is very down to Earth and people around here treat him just like any other neighbor guy.

He's a really nice guy.

When he was with Pam Anderson, he would bring her to our town. I actually stood behind her at the bank one day.

She had no makeup on but I still knew it was her (she was bustin out of her top) LOL

Now I'm really jealous Beth! I like Kid Rock!!! I love his duet w/Sheryl Crow (Picture).

Thanks for the site, Sass~ The song was awesome.:)

No, Taffy, I wasn't 17 - I was 19 in 1989. This song actually really reminded me more of 1988 for me. By 1989, I was in my 2nd year of college right before I left to run away across the country for a guy. Really, the summer of 1988 was my carefree summer after graduating from high school. We hung out at the beach, though, not a lake.

So Wait......what are we sayin' here.........our own sweet AMN is responsible for turnin' our lil' Kid Rock from a boy to a man??? NICE!! LOL

SandyC 04-16-2008 12:27 AM

1989, I had two children and Jim was discharged from the military. This momma didn't do those things in 89. ;-)

This song actually takes me back to 1984. lol And we hung out in the woods by the river.

Just heard the song.... had to come here and post! 1987 was my year of his words! by 1989 I had a baby and was settling into motherhood.

What a great job he did bringing the two songs together.

Those were the days...... ;)

FaithS 04-16-2008 06:57 AM

Love this song. In 1989, tho, I wasn't 17, or 19. I was 27. O-o-old!

Pregnant at 10. So, Sal, you're a little more country than rock-n-roll, huh?

MSacorn 04-16-2008 01:15 PM

Thanks Holly, I'm so enjoying this.

My 1989 was 1982 and the lake was Erie.

Ahh, the good ol' days.

This should come with a liquids warning. As in swallow your drink before reading any further lest you spew liquids all over your monitor!!:D:p;)
