Having Gallbladder Out Monday

Dear Friends,

I had been having the sx of ms hug, but recently have also been having some severe pain in my abdomen that seemed worse and different. So I did what I had learned from reading what all of you smart NT folks have said... and that is to not take for granted that everything is just the ms. My neuro was very smart and on top of things and wanted me to see my PCP and perhaps have follow-up to check my gallbladder. So that is exactly what I did. And sure enough it was not JUST the ms hug. They did an x-ray and ultra-sound of my gallbladder and found 3 stones. I like that my doctors seem pro-active. They are removing the gallbladder Monday morning. He does not want to take the chance of waiting too long and having it turn into an emergency. The way it has felt a few nights, I don't want to take that risk either.

But I just want to say, had it not been for what I have learned from you all, I probably would still be biting the 'ole bullet and putting up with the extra pain. This is a wonderful caring community! :grouphug: I have been blessed!

:hug: Hugs to all of you!:hug:

Im glad you had it checked out. Good luck on Monday. My sister in law

It can be confusing to "listen to our bodies" when they are talking gibberish most of the time . . . but I'm glad you didn't take the symptoms for granted. My doc is great about checking everything else first too.

Good luck on your surgery.

Welcome to the club, Sox. It seems that many of us with MS have to have our Gull Bladders removed.

Here's hoping you have the simple lazer operation. I had the cut me open, long version and it took 6 weeks to recover. A friend had the simple operation and was back bowling in less than a week.

I'll be thinking of you Monday and sending a Prayer that all goes well.

Oh, bummer! But good, it's good to see that you had your head on straight and got some guidance. But, what a drag. But, good that it will end your pain. Life is such a crapshoot!

Hope it goes well, I'll be praying for your speedy recovery.

Will say a prayer for a fast and successful surgery. My sister had her gallbladder out and she was home the same day. I wish the same for you.

I had mine out in 2001, 1 year after my first attack (which I though was just stress). It was really an easy surgery. Besides the gas pain, from the C02 that they pump into you, I felt so much better than I did before surgery cause my GB was making me feel like I was having a heart attack every night.

Good luck to you!!

Good job getting that issue investigated. I'm sorry you are having surgery, but it sounds like a good plan.

Sending prayers and healing thoughts to you now. Good luck with the surgery on Monday, and recover at your own pace.

Good luck and glad you know what it is now.

But I have some questions if you dont mind.

You mentioned the MS hug, how was this pain different?

What does YOUR MS hug feel like?

Take good care and know that we are here for YOU~!

Warmly, Jan

Thanks Everyone....

... for your well wishes and prayers! I am as certain as possible that this is going to be a breeze! It's nice to have folks from all around on my side though. That can only make it all seem better.

Jan,

I will be interested to see how my hug sx feel after I have healed from the surgery. It is hard to sort out and know for sure what is what. The pain directly under my sternum has been so much more intense... and also I feel like someone just put a steel toed boot to the ribs in the mid-back region a little off to the side. But now, having said that, I can't say for certain that this is the gallbladder. I have been very lightheaded and nauseous lately. But again don't know for sure if that is related? I guess just all of this together feels so much worse, the way I described things cause the neuro to think it could be gb. So , I guess I really KNOW nothing! ha! :) But maybe can tell you more after the fact.....A LOT OF HELP I AM!!!!! :p

I am still wondering if anyone knows, can ms cause you to feel like you "could" pass out and be nauseous, even vomiting a few times. The only reason I'm wondering is that when this occurs, I am also having the burning waves through my body. And I wouldn't think the gb would cause burning, but what do I know? So I'm not sure what is gallbladder and what is ms. Just curious....

Thanks all!!!

Surgery Went Fine!

Thanks for all your thoughts and Prayers! The gallbladder surgery went fine. Got to go home late Monday afternoon.

The MS hug is still there. It caused me some trouble waking up after the surgery. But I definitely feel much better in the abdominal area. So very glad they decided to go ahead with it. Can check that off the list!!!

Of course I'm sore, but have meds to help with that. Now I can get back to dealing with the rest of this stuff. Thanks again!:grouphug:

FinLady 04-16-2008 08:29 AM

Glad the surgery went well. I remember my surgeon asking if he could keep my stones 'cuz he never pulled that many out of one person before. I said "sure, I'm not going to be using them for anything." :)

Prayers continuing for a speedy recovery.

beautytransforming 04-16-2008 09:08 AM

Glad to hear all is well. Rest and take it easy - but walk as much as possible. Hope the hug gets better. I still have to learn about that!! Not quite sure what it is!

Jan,

But I have some questions if you dont mind.

You mentioned the MS hug, how was this pain different?

I am 4 days out of the surgery now. I do still have the crushing feeling in my rib cage. Almost the worst it has been. But I am "hoping" that some is due to the stress of the surgery.

What feels better is the pain that was centralized under the sternum and also, the nauseau and some vomiting I was experiencing. Aslo, I was having intense pain in the back of my ribs. This has lessened considerable. I have not been as light headed either. But I haven't done anything. So will be interested to see if that is still better when I start back to work next week.

Hope this answers your questions. It is still hard to tell on everything, such as the back pain and rib pain. But much of it is better that was most likely the gallbladder.

Kristi 04-19-2008 06:44 AM

I've never and I hope I never do experience the MS hug,I had my gallbladder out about 20 years ago,I've never experienced such pain in my life,I had 3 atttacks one that woke me up in the middle of the night while I was sleeping.Gallstones run in my family my mom,dad,3 sisters and myself have all had are gallbladders removed my one brother is the only one that never had any gallbladder problems in the family lucky him.
