Symptoms of unruptured brain aneurysm
 

I have a cerebral aneurysm and doctors are watching and waiting as it is in a dangerous area for coiling procedure. What I want to know is if any other individuals with brain aneurysms have experienced thinking problems, like brain is not processing up to par...

Welcome to NeuroTalk - Sorry to hear you have an aneurysm. To answer your question - I also have an aneurysm that is being watched and do have challenges with my brain operating optimally. Some of my symptoms are fatigued pretty easily, memory loss, unable to find words or even sometimes spell correctly. Brain hurts after exerting myself in conversation with others and my threshhold for using tact with people can decrease when my brain is tired. I had for years had issues with comprehension and found ways around it. I knew something wasn't functioning right just never occurred to me it was an aneurysm.

Mine's just been picked up, and I'm waiting to see the specialist to discuss treatment options. I found a list of possible symptoms on the .brainaneurysm.com website.
I've listed them below:-

To be honest I've had most of these for years due to fibromyalgia & mental health conditions/medications.
No. 1 is comparatively new (circa last Summer) and I have been a lot more tired & confused in the last few months as well as being more inclined to fall over and having increasing difficulty in concentrating.
Horrible, isn't it? Never mind, keep smiling & just try to accept a slower pace of life for thr time being.:hug:

Unruptured brain aneurysm and thinking
 

I have three aneurysms, all on the right side. I have had one coiled, it was a 12.9. The other is 4.5 and a small one at 2.2. They are watching the 4.5 one. I am 62, yes, I do have trouble some times with thinking, the word is there but I can't get it out. I don't think it is related so much to the aneurysm, but to the worry. Age may have some role in this. But, where is your aneurysm located? What size? Our brains have certain parts that control certain activities, if the aneurysm is large enough to press on something else, possibly this may have an effect also. I am not in the medical field, just venturing a guess. I worry, I don't want the second one to rupture, so this sometimes throws off my thinking.

I am sorry i have had the same aneursym in that are too but no troubles with thinking .

:)I too have been diagnosed with a brain aneursym. Mine is along the cartoid artery on the base of my brain. It was 9mm in Jan. As of Aug. it was 5-6. Not very big, but surgery would be too dangerous. Not to mention I have a 16 yr. old daughter and a 7 yr. old. No one to raise them if I died or had a stroke in surgery. I ask God to keep me here a while longer. For 3-4 years I have been experiencing memory loss, headaches, numbness in face/limbs and ear pain. Ocassionally my balance is off, which is very embarrassing. Sometimes I feel like I'm walking sideways and can't control it. It scares me. I was diagnosed in Jan. of 2008 at 34 yrs. old. My thinking is also disrupted often. I get confused alot, loose my car everywhere I go (lol). Doctors say this stuff is not related to the aneurysm, I disagree.

Yes I have had two Annie's one coiled and one clipped in 2004 both 4 mm and both to the point of rupture. I had numbing (most right side) but also both legs. I also had slur that happened once in a while that lasted anywhere from a day to two weeks,very tired always,could not remember,and felt like I had the flu for 8 months. I was working as a union painter when I felt like my nerves were on top of my skin...hot felt cold,cold felt hot on my right side and my neck hurt. That was in July 2004 so I saw my doctor who told me I may have MS (because both legs were heavy at times,and numb) anyway it turns out I had two Annie's.One was deep between the two hemispheres where they say only 5% of people get them and very hard to coil...long story short they coiled it.:winky: The one they clipped was in a Y shaped artery right in the center,so they could not coil because it would stop blood flow. A month after seeing the doctors for my last "you're fine to go" I had a stroke,when they say take things slow,rest and work back slowly they mean it. Me I was running up and down 4 flights of stairs at my son's apt. and for three day's feeling dizzy,I had no idea I was spiking my BP. Took me three years to walk and talk OK,still when I get tired I slur,my right side acts up,and I still have short term memory. So don't be like me..when they say rest,Rest!!!
Me and about 8 others from the BT site email each other everyday,we all go through the same things,but I know you'll do fine. Think positive they can fix you and if they can't,or feel unsure... get a second opinion. I live in Minn.and had two of the best Dr.Eric S. Nussbaum, Neurosurgery, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Dr. Madison,Madison did the coil.

one of the major problems with unruptured aneurysms is that they tend not to have any symptoms, so people don't know they are there and don't seek treatment. I have no symptoms from my aneurysm and it was found accidently (I have other unrelated neurological problems so have regular brain scans).

By the time that it becomes symptomatic I would have thought that it would be time to have it treated. My sister never did have any symptoms right up until the morning it ruptured. She has a stroke like event 30 minutes before the rupture which she did not survive.

My aneurysm is small (6cm) and is being monitored and has not grown any since it was discovered some time ago.

Hi there I never had any symptoms until it ruptured then I had headaches after the first one was clipped but I am sure that was because I knew about the other one. Jess

I have very recently been diagnosed with an unruptured brain aneurysm. I am only 27 - my symptoms are chronic severe headache, vision problems, numbness in toes and fingers, short term memory failure, dilated pupil, balance problems ... has anyone been diagnosed with an unruptured "annie" (someone else called it this - great) and not had to have surgery? I'm nervous...My neurologist is setting me up with a neurosurgeon, which I kind of took as a bad sign, even though she framed it as "covering all bases" etc.

Any comments, information would be greatly appreciated...

hi everyone. iv been getting really bad headaches for a while now always behind my right eye the doctors told me i am getting migraines but i get them about 4 times a week. i also have trouble thinking, you know when you know a word or name of something but you just cant remember it (this happens often) also i feel tired a lot i can sleep for hours then in the afternoon I'm still very tired i also feel sick every now and again for no reason! i also get shooting pains through my head when i bend down, are shouting at my kids!! and sometimes when I'm just sitting there not doing anything. i don't know if this is just me being silly but I'm a 24 year old woman and i don't think i should feel this bad for no reason. i was just wondering if any of you had the same symptoms as me. iv just made another appointment with my doctor but I'm not sure if they will take it any further. any advice would be great. thanks :)

I have a unruptured aneurysm too. I"m lost about the whole thing. This is all new to me. So I feel for you. Mine is a basilar tip aneurysm measuring 6mm. They are recommending a MRA or CTA. I hope everything works out for you.

Inoperable Aneurysm Please Help

I had my angiogram and the surgeons say that my aneurysm is inoperable.
Actually the exact words were, " Sorry to tell you this but yer screwed"
That was really nice bedside manner, huh? Geesh. Anyway the aneurysm is an 8.5 x 6 on the top of the basilar artery. There are 5 arteries feeding into it. So I guess its what you call a fusiform? I dont know.:smileypray: They just said it's inoperableand hard to get to. I dont really know what to do and what not to do so it wont rupture. He just chuckled and said Dont be bunji jumping now..What a jerk. He was my second opinion. I'm so scared everyday. I also have hydrocephalus that cant be treated. They say I was born with it. I also had a stroke in the past that I knew nothing about. I'm just thankful to God every morning when I wake up. They said I could live to be 70 or die in my sleep tonight. Cant tell me anything else. Does anyone else have an aneurysm like this one and if so, Did you get it fixed? I have 2 Girls and a wonderful husband and I dont wanna leave them. I cry all the time, have headaches, and memory loss, and cant concentrate. Are these associated with the aneurysm? My headaches are sometimes unbearable but the doctors say aneurysms have no symptoms. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just happened in here because I have an interest in aneurysms since my daughter had one--and I saw your post and was horrified at the way the doctor treated you.

I think he's in the wrong profession. Unfortunately he's done the damage and is probably going on to say more heartless things to other people.

Any doctor who tells you that aneurysms have no symptoms is wrong. SOME aneurysms have no symptoms and may never be found. Others may have a few symptoms or one or many. The symptoms you mention are often mentioned as aneurysm symptoms.

They keep coming up with new ways of fixing aneurysms. I hope you're staying in touch with some medical providers you trust. If you don't have any medical providers you trust, please try hard to find at least one good one.

In other words, since you've had a second opinion (probably a worthless one, IMO), go for a third opinion, maybe a fourth as well.

I was diagnosed with my 6mm aneurysm two days before Christmas in 2008. I was undergoing a routine MRI for aneurysms since my family is prone to them. I have PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) which can cause strokes and aneurysms.

I can honestly tell you that without a doubt you may experience some symptoms or none at all. Everyone's symptoms vary.

The symptoms of my unruptured aneurysm are fatigue (especially in the mid-late afternoon), headaches behind my right eye, occasional nausea, occasional loss of balance (especially when I'm tired), shaking (after sports which might not be a great thing but they told me it was okay to proceed as normal).

I have elected to not have surgery right now because the risks are the same. I find that the winter is worse than the spring and summer. I tend to go the entire summer with barely any symptoms other than occasional fatigue. Sunlight must help!

Ultimately you know when your body is not feeling well and when you're "off." I think you should get a 3rd opinion however or at the very least, choose a surgeon that will respect you.

yes with alot of buzzing in my head it is from location in the brain what side is your on.

I was just diagnoised with a 1 cm brain aneurysm. I got up one morning and was dizzy,Severe headache,nausea,numbness and tinglinging in right side of my face and pressure behind right eye and had severe neck pain and stiffness. Long story, short, I have consulted with specialist at UVa. Medical and am about to have a "Coiling" IF the opening to the aneurysm is large enough..Have been told it is VERY narrow and the Angiogram will tell them if or if not. If not, then I will be having a "Clip" placed! Brain Surgery...My concerns are,,,,the specialist tell me that it is unlikely that my symptoms are NOT related to the large aneurysm that is possibly leaking...I went through and am still having issues that are "TEXT BOOK" symptoms to an aneurysm...So how can this be..My eye still has pressure behind it and my right side of my face feels like I have been to the dentist and have had novocaine and numbness in fingers...Has anyone experienced this or any info. would be much appreciated...:)

My symptoms are very similar to yours, including the winter bringing them on, this is the second winter I have felt off, with very frequent headaches, fatigue, nausea, dizzyness and loss of balance, and shaking just before eating (as if low on sugar), but I also got told aneurysms had no symptoms. :mad:

Just this Friday a neurologist confirmed I have an aneurysm, but she was totally loathe to give me any details, such as where it is or its size, I hope to get them after the angiography, and will definitely be asking for another doctor!
