Hurricane IKE- all in the path

Many people in here have family & friends in the Galveston / Houston areas of Texas. Prayers are needed for those that have decided to "stick it out because we're quite a ways inland". They will still get the rain and the winds, possibly not as much flooding, but many have chosen to stay I guess.
One of these is my own brother and his family. He's northwest of Houston, has gotten food, water, and many batteries and is going to stick it out. Knowing that when power goes out, it most likely will knock out cell phone services....the waiting and not hearing anything is going to be difficult. While seeing all of the news on tv...take a moment please for a heartfelt prayer for all living in the path of Ike,

God be with you,

Marilyn

My brother and SIL live in Victoria, which is 40 miles inland. They are hunkered down for the duration of Ike.

SIL says that all the news studios have reserved all the available rooms in town, and then their people fan out along the coast.

My brother said now that they are ready, it's like sitting on the railroad tracks, waiting for the train to come.

I was able to talk with MommaD for a few minutes. She and most of her family have temporarily moved 180 miles north of Houston area.

BUT, her husband is a policeman, and had to head back for work tomorrow in Houston. She seems pretty calm about it, but keeping them in my prayers.

I heard from suzyq this morning

copy of my post on stumble inn:
Quote:

I just got a text from suzy. here it is:

We r ok. no power
still high winds
it will have a lot of people in shock when it's over
will check in later sometime
please let others know

I'm going to text her back our love and prayers. I wont keep texting, so she doesn't run her cell battery down. What we are hearing on the news here in Texas, some parts coud be weeks without power.

It's just before 7am here. BTW, I'm in north Texas, DFW area. We will only get high winds and rain. Possible power outages too. If so, I will contact Shelley or Chemar.

*added: I know many do have susan's phone number, but we need to keep any calls or texts to her limited or post here and just one made. she needs to save her cell for emerganicies. thanks.

Here is the FEMA assistance information that was just released:

(1) You have to register by phone [(800) 323-9603] or on-line for assistance. These are the only two methods being accepted.

(2) FEMA has for every family impacted a total of $28,800 to help.

(3) FEMA will also provide funds for medical assistance needs and transportation.

(4*) Biogen (MS Active Source) will help Avonex and Tysabri patients with assistance so that your medical needs are met without delay.

I thank God that Suzy is ok, as well as so many others in Ike's path. I received word from my nephew that my brother and his family in Houston are all ok, only minor damages to their 2 homes, with lots of tree limbs down in roadways. It will likely be at least one, if not two weeks before the far suburbs get power restored. With the heat, plus now all that humidity...it's going to be miserable, especially for those with any sort of breathing problems:eek:

I too am glad everyone is ok, my grandma went back to her house in Alvin today, trees down and knee deep water but her house is good thank God! Now we here in Arkansas are just hoping we come through it tonight with minimal damage, we are already so water logged it isn't funny, and I live in tornado alley so that is a concern.

the scenes of devastation are just awful:(

I pray for all whose homes/businesses have been damaged by the winds, floods and those awful fires on Galvestan Island....plus the millions without power now in this southern heat and humidity

and deepest sympathy where life has been lost.....thank God it was few but even one is too many:(

praying for many helpers to make the recovery fast and efficient
:grouphug:

and oh please dear God no more landfalling hurricanes this year:smileypray:

Chemar 09-16-2008 08:54 AM

I know the news has been overtaken by stock market woes and campaign foes again................

but

it really doesnt seem that all is going as smoothly as could be in the recovery and most people who were impacted are still suffering more than should be after this many days. I am shocked to see how slow it is to get supplies & help to those in need. And the extent of destruction in some areas is awful. This is going to be a very long recovery and for many life will never be the same as it was before Ike.:(

Let's keep them in our prayers.:grouphug:
