Quick note

I decided last night, then went to the gp today and she agreed with me...this surgery is now officially off. The dr is very worried that something bad is happening, so she is contacting 2 specialists that I went to before and I will probably be having a true exploratory + colonoscopy without meds very soon...but on my terms.

Good that you called her...take care of yourself!

How do you have a colonoscopy without meds? Just curious, I've never heard of such a thing. I've had one before and they loaded me up on at least two different (and powerful) drugs, I didn't know what was happening. Maybe there could be a happy medium, where you don't feel out of control but you're not suffering. I hope the surgery being called off is the right decision, I don't know the situation all that well and I'm no doc so I won't comment. Again, candles and well wishes is about the best I can do from Suthin Indiana.:)

Gabe, thanks.

Slim,
I won't ask anyone to go with me, so therefore I cannot take a mind altering drug, but mostly, I don't want to take versed.

Drugs are funny, I've always done well on Versed (as I hardly knew what was happening, it is indeed a powerful drug)! My mom doesn't like Versed either, everyone reacts differently. I have had problems with the narcotics though, the Demerol they gave me during my colonoscopy stayed with me for hours after the procedure, which would have been fine except they gave me a bit too much, felt like I couldn't breath for a long time. I've done fine on lower doses, when I had my GI scope done. Most times though these drugs hit you so fast you don't have time to think about it, they load you up pretty good during a colonoscopy, I didn't know where I was or what was happening and it hit me in under 5 seconds.

You know your own body better than anyone so go with your gut, if you don't want the meds than you're right, they probably will do more harm than good. Hope it's not too bad!:(

Well, I've gone downhill quite a bit this week and the drs didn't do much. I didn't want the colonoscopy, but became fairly comfortable with it, however now I don't think that I can take the effects of the prep.

I didn't work yesterday and am not supposed to work until my dr is back in the office, but am going in for about an hour to get things organized and get some paperwork done.

I called the obgyn and she won't do surgury without the colonoscopy.

The nurse at my gp is trying to get me a referral to a general surgeon that my husband went to. He is young, good lucking, but not personable and one of those in and out guys. I don't know if anything will come of it, especially with my phobias that have to be addressed.

Awhhhh, Mamma~!

Im sorry to read about your roadblocks.

I hope it all works out to be something easy for you to get a handle on.

The prep I had to take in 2004 was nasty. Drinking salt water for 5 hours straight (which is what it tasted like) has the tendency to cause vomiting, which I can't handle. It did the job though. The reason I mention this is because they're supposed to have pills now which I imagine would be much more palitable than a gallon of sea water.:p I've heard good things about the pills from a few different people.

My doc is old and ugly but he's one hell of a nice guy and has great bedside manner, I was lucky to find him as I've had bad luck the last 6 or 7 years with docs (mostly neuros).

Again, I hope things work out for you and I'm truly sorry that you're suffering so much, wish there's more I could do, you seem like such a nice person!!

Hugs,

SJ

I jsut got a call from my gp and I "have" to meet with the gastro dr again and have a colonoscopy. I don't think that this is a good idea, but no one is listening.

I am so scared,
Mama

lexiathedragongirl 10-14-2006 05:00 PM

Dearest mama, listen to your docs if you can. They are trying to help and leaving it for too long will only make it more serious and more complicated.

I had a colonoscopy about 2 years ago with a camera down the throat as well; it was very quick, didn't remember a thing, and out again that afternoon. Even with all my stuff I had very little problem. It is only a general that causes me issues. No tubes, no major meds.

Talk to the anaesthesiologist about your med issues; they listen and are good.

I have to admit my prep for the c was yuck; if they ave a pill now that would be far better :) Just the difficulty of having to drink so much stuff beforehand.

I have been thinking of you. I'm gong back to my GP tomorrow to continue my search, so perhaps together we'll all get this sorted out.

(((hugs)))

Thanks, Lexie,
I just think that there is no need for a colonoscopy, and that right now one is dangerous. Since I can't tolerate IV's it is going to hurt like the devil, too, but if it did anything it would be worth it.

I am having additional pain in a new place (same side) and added sx. I just want this to go away. By the time I wait for the test and the results, and the scheduling for surgery we're talking at least a month. I don't think I have that long - or even close.

try to get a script for Emla cream. It's a topical numbing agent you use over the area they are going to start the IV in. We use it all the time with my kids, and I have too...it really does work, mamma. You wont feel the stick.

mamafigure 10-15-2006 08:48 AM

Thanks Alicia, but it's not the stick, but the being hooked up and having poison put in (I think of anything that comes in by shot or iv as poison).

Everything has changed

I have an appointment on Halloween with a surgeon in a neighboring city, set up by my gp. She, supposedly will do both the colonoscopy and the exploratory at the same time.
mama

KTM5665 10-30-2006 12:24 PM

Best Wishes tommorow, Mamma at your appointment. Please know I'll be thinking about you and praying for strength and wisdom to make the right decisions.

mamafigure 10-30-2006 06:32 PM

Alicia,
Thanks. I will let you know how it goes. I feel really lucky to have folks like you interested in me.
