Please Pray For My Nephew's Daughter

My nephew's 3 year old daughter was just diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. She has a tumor in her back. They are just beginning this horrible journey and need all the prayers they can get.

ewizabeth 06-02-2010 09:27 AM

I hope they can remove the tumor and successfully treat and cure it. I'll keep them all in my prayers.

Your little one is in my prayers right now along with your whole family...

Kitty 06-05-2010 03:48 PM

Got some good news about my niece. The Neuroblastoma is contained to the small tumor on her back. Nothing has spread to her bones, bone marrow or any other organ. Praise God! They go on 6/18 to the oncologist to map out a treatment plan. Thank you for the prayers.

karousel 06-05-2010 04:10 PM

So sorry to hear they are facing this. They will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Here's an update Claire's Mom posted about her progress:

"As it is, the tumor cannot be removed at this time because is too vascular. It is also running along her major aorta. The cancer will have to be treated more aggressively than we thought. She will still have chemotherapy but at a higher dose. She will have to be hospitalized for observation. We do not have the details yet about any of this.

We will meet the oncologist on Tuesday after her CT scan around noon. She will go over the treatment with us and what we can expect. They will possibly set her up with the surgeon for her chemotherapy port.

Please pray for us all on Tuesday as we try to comprehend all of the information. Pray that we will have wisdom and peace. Pray for our boys that they will be able to understand what is happening and trust the Lord."

Thank you for praying for her. She's such a sweet little girl....so innocent. She doesn't understand all that's taking place. I know that the Lord will take care of her.

Latest Update.......not so good. Please continue to pray:

Isaiah 42:6-8, "I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open the eyes that are blind, to free the captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness. I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols."

Well yesterday was a tense and trying day but He never left us alone. God continues to remind us that Claire's life is in His hands and no other. She had some complications from sedation yesterday and her vocal chords closed off her airway causing spasms. The doctor kept her oxygen going but warned us that if the spasm did not stop he would have to paralyze her and put her on life support until the medicine left her system. Praise be to God, He saved her and she came out of it with no side effects or future problems.

We also met with her oncologist around noon and talked about the stage of Claire's cancer and treatment plan. Right now she is stage 3 of Neuroblastoma, risk still uncertain.

Please, people of God, pray for Divine wisdom for Claire's doctors. There is a whole team of doctors being consulted at this time because they have never seen a case like Claire's. There is nothing to compare it to and so they aren't sure whether to treat her as intermediate or high risk. Her tumor just barely crosses the mid-line of the body. The amplification is also unclear. This means that the cancer is barely aggressive, but they still cannot determine. They are waiting to hear from COG (Children's Oncology Group) with their biology study and numbers. This will help them decide what to do.

The difference in intermediate and high risk treatment is significant. The concern is that if they undertreat her, they run the risk of the cancer coming back with a vengence. However, the risk and side effects from high-risk treatment are much greater.

The factors they are considering is that #1 she is completely a-symptomatic. She has nocomplications from this cancer whatsoever. #2 It has not spread anywhere else in her body even though it is "aggressive". #3 Her MNYC amplification # is between 5-8. The cut off is 8 for high-risk treatment. #4 The tumor is just crossing the midline of the body by a couple of mm.

The oncologist does not feel comfortable moving forward with the high-risk treatment until they hear from COG and another group of doctors they are consulting.

We will keep you updated as soon as we know.

You tell them we are praying really hard for this precious baby.

Got this short update:

"Well we received news today that all of the oncologist involved in her case all agree that she is high risk. Our oncolgist just got some conflicting info on her MNYC amplification."

Kitty 06-22-2010 02:07 PM

Received a more thorough update. Please continue to pray:

"We heard from the oncologist and all of the physicians who have reviewed Claire's case agree that she needs to be treated as high-risk Neuroblastoma, stage 3. It is because her biology is unfavorable.

Sadly, this means that Claire will be treated with high-dose chemotherapy, surgery, radiation and other medications. This will all take place over a year. She is scheduled to have a central line put in this Friday, June 25, and will be admitted for her first cycle of chemotherapy the same day. We will be in the hospital for five days and then come home until the next cycle is administered. The cycles will be spaced three weeks apart. After five cycles, she will have some kind scan (MRI) to check the size of her tumor. If they can remove it surgically at that time, they will. The concern is that it is resting on her aorta and also the tumor is very vascular. Even if it is removed surgically, she will still have chemo, radiation and Accutane.

I am not sure about visitors while she is receiving her chemo, but I will find out today. I will post those restrictions on here. If we can receive visitors, we would love to so hopefully it will work out.

Please pray for Claire as she is given anesthesia again. After our scare on Tuesday we are concerned about her. We have her on some homeopathic treatments to help her through the chemo. Please pray that they will do their job and help protect her from the toxic chemicals.

We know that Claire is safe in the hands of her Creator, Jesus Christ. He is God over this cancer and He does not sleep or grow weary. He holds all things together by His powerful Word (Hebrews 1:3), even our little three year old. We completely put our hope in Him and this is where our strength comes from. Please pray for all of us to have faith and not give into discouragement."

Praying hard for them.

She begins Chemo tomorrow. :( Here's the latest update her Mom made:

"Quick update:

Claire can have visitors from 8:30AM to 8:30PM as long as you are not sick or experiencing any symptoms of illness. Also, if you have been around someone who is knowingly ill, please visit another time. I want to apologize in advance if you come to visit and Claire cannot see you. We are not really sure how she will respond to the Chemo and there may be times when she needs to rest. Lord willing, she will be able to enjoy all of her visitors and we pray it encourages her too! We appreciate your understanding.

She will have surgery for her central line first thing Friday morning. After recovery we will be admitted to a room and chemo should start sometime that afternoon. We should be there until Wednesday.

Here's a pic of her and Grandpa (my BIL):

If you want or need to talk just call me anytime, please.

It's just so much harder when things like this happen to innocent babies.
:hug::hug:

Kitty 06-25-2010 11:23 PM

Today was the first day of chemo after the central line was put in. Here's the latest update:

"Claire's procedure to put in the central line went off without any complications. She is a little sore but should be better by tomorrow.

She had her first day of chemo and also tolerated that well. No sickness. She is very tired and I hope she can get some rest tonight.

God blessed us with His grace every step of the way today and we felt all the prayers of His people! We will probably go home Tuesday."

What a beautiful little girl. Thinking of you all at this time.

Kitty 06-28-2010 03:42 PM

Just received this update. Thank you everyone for all your prayers:

"Just wanted to update because I know everyone is praying. We will have one last day of chemo tomorrow and then we will be headed home sometime before lunch. So far Claire has not been sick, praise the Lord! Since she has done so well tolerating this first round of chemo, we can do the next as outpatient. The rest will have to be inpatient, but we are so grateful we can stay home for the next cycle.

A couple of things to pray for:
-Claire will not get an infection or fever between cycles.
-Her anxiety will subside about her central line. We have to clean it once a week, which does not hurt, but she hates it.
-Please pray for wisdom for us as we try to parent the boys too and make them feel loved and not forgotten about.
-For all the children who are in the AFLAC cancer center and their families. Very sobering place.

This year is going to be hard but we accept it as from the Lord just as we would something we would like and regard as "good". His Word says that He causes ALL things to work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. It is by faith that we know this is good and we are honored to bring Him glory."

Chemar 07-01-2010 04:05 PM

just checking in to see how Claire is doing Kelly
