2011 cola?

When do they announce that there won't be a COLA for 2011? I know that this is the month that the figures come out determining if there will be one. If the government is spending a billion dollars a day in Iraq, will there be anything left over to help the disabled and senior citizens of their own country? I guess we don't matter. All the money(if there is an increase) would go right back into the economy because who can save money on a fixed income.

BabyBoomer15, I am a retired fed and I know we won't be receiving one. At least that is what I have read for the past several months. But it still could be possible; just highly doubtful.

The last I heard was that there will be no raises for 2-3 years. That was quite awhile ago however. I wouldn't hold my breath.

The last COLA was 2 yrs ago and it was 5.8 percent (which was the highest increase since 1982). I would be happy with half that increase. I haven't heard anything lately about it. Maybe they will come out with another 250 dollar one time payment.

I just figured out what COLA is.
I hope they do have it, but if not, I am so grateful that I was approved and that I get a monthly pmt now.
Next year is when I will worry.
Take care!

Babyboomer15 09-14-2010 08:12 AM

Yep. I was the same last yr when I got approved. Just happy that I won my case and wasn't concerned about COLA but going 2 yrs without a raise will be hard.

SSDI was meant as a helping hand for the disabled,, not a paycheck with raises

Hoosier_Daddy 09-15-2010 10:33 AM

That's fine. Tell the petroluem companies not to raise gas prices. Tell Kroger not to raise food prices. Electric company and on and on. If you are on SSDI then you should know that bills keep going up. Most every job I had had a COLA. Some were adjusted 2-4 times per year.

Tell 'em-Hoosier Daddy.

Again,, SSDI is not a job,, If I got a COLA raise on it,, fine, but i; happy to just get it right now,,, maybe down the road I;ll feel different,,

I have seen people get there (back pay) and think they hit the lotto,, new TV;s,, cell phones for everyone in the house and when its all gone they wonder where it all went and no bills got paid that were backing up and then there back in the same shape they were before

I paid off most of my bills with the backpay but still have 2 CCS to pay off. As long as I don't have a car or house payment,I should be ok. I never received a COLA when I worked and the last job I worked, there was probably never going too be another raise so having a SSDI COLA is all good for me and everyone else. Most of the COLA money would probably go right back into the economy.

Good for you,,,

ssdi is a disability insurance policy. the premiums are paid by payroll taxes, half from you and half from your employer unless you are self employed or a consultant. its not a helping hand or welfare program. contrary what some politicans think its not an entitlement program.
