I drove a store scooter lol

I didn't really need to I guess, but I was feeling a lil lazy about walking around the mega Wal-Mart so I said screw it and got on a scooter:eek:

Boy I felt stupid on it....

doydie 05-17-2013 12:17 AM

I remember the first time we were going to go on vacation and I was going to be renting one. I went to Walmart around midnight just so that I could ride around in one. Yeah, you feel kind of stupid at first. But when you are on vacation it's OK to do silly things. And by using it, it allows me to be with my family and have fun like I used to. And my 6 year old loves to sit on my lap at times. When we went to Gatlinburgh she was afraid of heights and we were riding the aerial tram up to Ober Gatlinburgh. She was mighty glad to have Grandmas arms snuggly around her as we went up. Going down it was not needed at all. She was all over the tram.

Sparky10 05-17-2013 08:10 AM

What about it made you feel stupid, Eric?

The first time I ever used a scooter made me feel free! Normally walking through a big expo at a convention center would have left me drained, even using a rollator. I borrowed my Dad's scooter and after getting home I could not believe I had just spent 2 hours at an expo. I could still walk well! I wasn't dragging my leg! What a freeing experience!

I went through the MSAA and got a free one.

TheSleeper 05-17-2013 10:05 AM

Well I remember going to Walmart to get an oil change and do some shopping, by the time I left my car in the back of the store and walked up front to get a scooter? They were paging me that my car was done!

For me a scooter became a necessity in life pretty quickly.

Sounds like WalMart needs to put some scooters in the Auto section, too.

SallyC 05-17-2013 10:36 AM

I understand. I felt stupid when first using a cane. I was younger
and a sweet little kid said to his Mother, "Grandma has a cane
just like that". :o:o

Was also embarrassed the first time using a walker, a store scooter
and again with my own minivan with scooter & lift.:o

It was also a freeing feeling, as Sparky said.:)

That people would think I'm a lazy ***, because I am young and do not look or act disabled at all. Or that I was goofing off. I was also worried someone would ask me something stupid like "hey bro, break your leg or something?

I hate having to explain to people about MS crap. "Well, I have a nervous system damaging disease and I am in the early stages of it and while my MS traits are mild compared to some cases I still can't walk all that fast, I can suddenly get dizzy, I have to keep bathrooms in mind and where they be and I use a strap to keep my car keys on my wrist so I don't drop them all the time:rolleyes:

People are like :eek::confused:

So I guess I am merely "gettin used to it" may as well now than later.

EricP 05-18-2013 08:58 PM

However when at WalMArt I saw this dude younger than me walk by with a normal to fast stride, holding a cane. I too wondered what was wrong with him and mom told me he probably is recovering from a concussion or something like that. It wasn't MS IMO, but I could be wrong. He was walking normally IMO.

Nowadays I have been a lot more aware of disabilities and people using canes and such. I do see a lot of young people with canes.... Most of them seem to walk normally, but walk with a cane for something(insurance scams? Disabiltiy fraud? LMAO.) But concussions probably. My mom used a cane for a couple of days when she had her concussion...

I reallly should get one of those, been looking at them at Rite-Aid LOL...

Just today I tripped over my feet twice LMAO....no falls yet though.

It's weird, because I roll on my bike and get around a lot better on my bike than walking. Youwould think it would be the opposite!

LOL, sorry, but that is funny.

It's like they pulled a prank on you, hahah:wink:

Walmart has such a silly 'reputation' about being the hick and trashy place to shop. I get so mad about it. I don't know how many videos there are on face book joking about an obese person riding a scooter at Walmart. I usually try to respond to each of them that they don't know the whole story and shouldn't make fun of people. My daughter was in Las Vegas several years ago and it was quite the thing to rent a scooter to get somewhere quicker. I don't like that either.

I know what you mean(thepeopleofwalmart.com:wink:)

It's just another box store like K-Mart, Target, ****'s.
Probably because of the success of Wal-Mart and how big they are, people always have to pick on success.

Speaking of store scooters I saw a young man driving one today. He apparently broke both his feet as he was wearing double cast on them.
He didn't seem to be embarrassed on it.

I'm such an image freak lol.

doydie 05-19-2013 11:52 PM

My independence means to much for me for my image to get in the way. I would much rather be in a scooter than have to depend on family members who aren't getting any younger push this 200 pound woman around in a manual wheel chair. So when we go on trips I always rent one. Insurance bought me a manual one many years ago and it has been used a lot and not just by me. But my husband doesn't like to browse when we travel. You just quickly move from one area to another. When my Mom died she was so proud to leave me her scooter since we are both left handed but I do't like to use it, in fact I never have except up and down the street to keep the battery OK. I like the kind that has the basket on it and I can swivel the seat around. This is the four wheel kind that looks like a chair.

I never get to get a scooter when I go shopping. They are always taken. I suspect mostly by overweight people. I'm not saying they don't need a scooter but I don't see them with a cane or disabled parking. They don't seem to have any walking issues in the parking lot. Besides their shopping cart didn't have a fruit or vegetable in it. I don't even try shopping anymore. I guess if I want to go shopping, I'll have to get my own scooter.:(

We have so many obese people around here riding scooters up and down the street and at Wal-Mart. Yes like you say....not one fruit or veggie. It is kinda irritating to see, but walking for them is difficult as well, being so large. Some of them can't do anything about it, but a lot of them can if they start eating fruit and be active....getting things taken care of. It would be easier on their knees so they could walk free.

I'm in my 30's and already driving a scooter in stores to save my energy and keep my legs from getting too stiff. I am doing all I can to combat this, but I have no control over it...they could.

Even worse is to see a at child....I mean a child under 10 years old...makes me just......

bluenurse 05-23-2013 06:39 AM

I had to use scooters in all my shopping in December. I was really reluctant to have to use one. This is waht I learned. You can't reach products either from the top shelves on from the bottom shelves, You have a hard time getting close enough to the produce to pick out what you want. peole don't get out of your way when your on a scooter, and it is hard to get your groceries from the basket to the checkout counter.

Now I can use the regular cart again. But I always offer help to anyone I see on a scooter. I always ask if they need help getting an item. I don't question why someone is on the scooter, I just have a new respect for those who have to use one.

When I could use a cart as a stabilizer, it was a beast walking through the store but I did it. Now I can't stand that long. If I could reverse MS with a pill or diet, I would. I have a hard time understanding how health is not their number 1 priority. I have a brother with diabetes and instead of trying to control with diet and exercise he would rather take pills. My family has a history of diseases that are totally avoidable. Yet they refuse to modify their diet.

I don't eat McDonalds, or any grease whatsoever, no soda, nothing like that. Since having this scare I have turned my diet completely around. I'm also on the bike riding the trails as much as possible. Today I got in a nice ride, probably 18 miles, because it was way cooler today and not bad humid. Felt nice I tellya.

I did see an overweight young girl walking down the MUP(Multi Use Path) she was trying and it was nice to see her doing something about it. I also saw this extreme overweight dude stopped at the light in his car, while I waited to cross. I don't know how he is allowed to drive as his gut was literally touching the steering wheel and I mean tightly looking. I also saw he has a handicap parking permit(A red one)

I know some people have thyroid problems or stuff like that, but....I think a good deal of them just are too lazy to get going on doing something about it, continue to feed on burgers and collecting disability checks isn't a bad thing either:rolleyes:

I bet I just opened a can of worms.

I'm probably not in a position to judge, as people do not see my disability and probably think I'm a lazy azz too. Sorry, but watching these disabled obese people walking out of McDonalds really irks me in the worst way. They're going to get a heart attack!

At least they walk out of the McDonalds. When I go, the drivethru is backed up to the street while the inside is empty.

That's like when you see some over eat and they order a diet soda.
