Just got the VCR I won on Ebay!!!

Well, you pay $22 for a PANASONIC OMNIVISION VCR.

What do you get??

A $22.00 VCR.

It works. It plays okay, skips now and then. But it records with a humm.

I just can't get lucky, can't I.

Now I'm waiting for my friend to bring me hers. She never used it except for one taping for Paul Anka.

If that one doesn't work better than this one, I just might have to do the DVR thing.

I'm going to learn how to use this before I order it.

Oh god, I'm really getting into the technical revolution, aren't I???

houghchrst 07-23-2008 10:47 AM

Melody I was wondering, are you recording on brand new tapes or recording over tapes again and again?

Jomar 07-23-2008 01:21 PM

maybe it needs a cleaning tape run thru it?
or alcohol on a q tip to clean the heads inside?

MelodyL 07-23-2008 03:00 PM

I tried new tapes, I tried old tapes. I tried recording on new tapes, old tapes.

Same thing happened.

When you record on any tape and you play it back, it hums and it skips every 60 seconds or so.

I tried using a cleaner but it's an old cleaner.

Didn't know about the alcohol on swabs.

I just might do this.

If it improves, I shall hug you all to death!!!

lol

Oh, ALL OF YOU, go to Social Chat and look at the thread I just started about having a good cry.

It's a video up on youtube that moved me to tears.

So whenever you all have a moment and want to see SOMETHING REALLY HEARTWARMING, go to that thread. You will be very glad you did.

DVR OR BUST! THROW OUT THE 8-TRACKS!!

Oh wait, I still have my dad's 8 tracks...LMAO.....

DVR, DVR, DVR

but save your VCR's for when you buy a new puter so you can transfer your old tapes to DVD's...

I think I just got myself into something that I am going to get myself in trouble with..........LMAO...........

:thud:

MelodyL 07-24-2008 09:11 AM

Why would I transfer my old tapes to DVD's.

I hate dvds anyway.

What is so special about my old tapes that I would transfer them to dvds.

These tapes are just things we taped off of tv.

AND YOU STILL HAVE 8 TRACK TAPES??

I never had those.

We used SONY WALKMANS with little cassettes to listen on the subway and buses.

I still remember snapping my fingers to Michael Jackson's Thriller.

And he turns 50 this year.

Oh My God!!!

VCR's are very old technology (as the Beta Player or even the LaserDisc Player), but they still have their perks.

I have many old vhs tapes which have old TCM films of them of Bogart and Cagney which have yet to be released on DVD. One film, in particular, "The Strawberry Blonde" (starring James Cagney, Olivia De Havilland, Rita Hayworth, and Jack Carson), I cannot find anywhere. My VCR broke though, and now I can neither watch it on dvd nor vhs.

I'm looking for a VCR too, but it seems like nobody has them anymore. I'm going to be looking at garage sales. I'm sure I'll be able to find one there for a few dollars. It's also easier to judge the people you're purchasing it from when you meet them in person (as to tell whether they're the type who took care of what they're now selling).

I hope you find something.

MelodyL 07-31-2008 07:22 PM

well, luckily, I got it to work. Don't know how I did it. But I cant watch my tapes.

I'm shutting my mouth. I don't want to bring any bad luck on myself.

lol
