Do little girls still have tea parties?

My daughter and I are both sorting and consolidating, and she said she didn't want her little china tea set. It's just a cheapy set, nothing special, and I thought I'd give it to one of the little girls in town.

I was wondering what age little girl to give it to (can't imagine giving essentially glass dishes to a three-year-old) and then it occurred to me: do little girls even HAVE tea parties anymore? Or is that in the category of black & white TV and record albums?

Still big

Tea parties are still very "in," especially for the 4-6 year-old crowd. My daughter has even been to a good number of tea party birthday parties. The best things just never go out of style.

It's so nice of you to think to give it to a little neighbour - you're going to make her day!

There is a store in Georgia that caterers to little girls tea parties. It's quite fashionable. I think it's a wonderful idea to give the tea set away. Those were the days when the big event was a tea party, just you and your dollies. :-)

I remember my tea set as being metal and brightly colored (probably lead paint). Grandma made brownies and All my dolls attended..:)

Thank you, that's good news! I think I know just the little girl; I think she's about six.

I have my mother's little tea set (what's left of it) from around 1918. Mine was plastic, and I remember having real tea (mostly milk and sugar, with a tea bag trolled through it once) and oyster crackers.

I don't believe my dolls were ever invited to the party. I had an imaginary friend. In fact, several. :D

I love the popcorn (I think it is Orville Redenbachers) commercial with the little girl having a tea party with popcorn and the dad and brother smell the popcorn and want some and she tells them only if you are at the tea party. In the next scene, they are wearing boas and frilly hats and sitting on the tiny chairs sipping faux tea and eating popcorn.

Now I'm missing all those tea parties I had with my DD. See she's 10 now and we only get to have one every once in a great while on the front lawn. Of course our Build A Bear teddy bears are always invited.

Ooops, sorry, I got OT. I agree 4-6 is the right age where girls are really into tea parties. That's sweet of you to want to give the set to a little girl who will have some fun using it.

I still have my blue willow/china? tea set. Well, its not much of a "set" anymore cuz I let my girls play with it before they were ready.

How much fun your neighbor girls will have! :)

I sure hope little girls still have tea parties!

I know mine did. Maybe the little girl would enjoy having a little tea party with you and taking the little tea set home afterwards,,, a lot of little girls probably don't know how unfortunately.

You will really be passing on more than just little dishes!
Very thoughtful! It makes me smile! Maybe I can find some little girls at who would like to have a tea party. That would be great. You have inspired me!

Have you done an Ebay search or Christies search to be sure that set isnt worth thousands of dollars?

If not, send it off as a wonderful present, but a complete set from 1918 may just be valueable. Worth a quick peek at Ebay.

Don't worry...I'm not soon parting with my mom's set, just the cheapo one that my daughter had! :D

Not only are tea parties popular with the little ones, they are becoming increasingly popular with us "adults." Additionally, one of DD18's friends had her 16th birthday party at one of the local tea rooms. They are always doing events there for people of all ages. I also know of many people who do them at their homes for their kids and/or their own friends. (Way cheaper than the tea rooms). ;)

Last week I got an invitation to a bridal tea shower. On the invite it even says to wear a hat. LOL

I remember having little tea parties with my dolls when I was younger. My daughters had them when they were little and my 3-year old niece is now getting in to them with her little dolls and stuffed animals. I think tea parties will never be unpopular.

What you are doing is very kind and thoughtful. That little girl will appreciate it so much.

I guess I'd be in deep puppy chow if I got invited to a tea party. I don't like tea, and I'd either have to wear my RFD-TV cap, or my turtle fur toque. :D

LOL I would be wearing a baseball cap that I wear while fishing if a friend of mine didn't give me a hat several years ago for a party we went to. :D

What kind of TV shows are you watching?

SallyC 08-27-2009 08:07 PM

I just meant that everyone is growing up so fast, these days, they don't have time for tea parties. It's a shame, I think.:(

My 10 yr old grand has received her monthly visiter already.. . I was just burping her yesterday!!!!!

I had tea parties, dd had them, and now my granddaughter does, too.

I got her a little porcelain set - nothing expensive, maybe $10 - when she was 2. Most of that broke in the toybox, moving.

No probs, so she gets another at christmas - it's always a good gift to her. I'll make cookies or there will be some other snack, and either there's plain water in the cups, maybe juice, once we did actual tea! She puts on her princess dress if it's at my house. Only the elite stuffed lion or kitty gets to join us.

B2Y, that is an awesome thing to give some little girl. You're going to make her day!

I was just reading old threads and I came across the tea party topic. A few years ago I gave my 4 y/o neighbor girl a princess tea set. She would come over and have tea parties with my mini dachshund, Baxter. She would set the cup on the floor and he would put his nose in to investigate, drinking his "tea"(water). They were just too cute. Both of her parents were Marines and it was always fun to see her big Marine dad sipping tea out of little princess cups!

HA HA, I'm 29 and I still have tea parties with my friends! It's a little more excusable now that we have kids. Now a days we call them "lunch meetings" where we get together, eat stuff that's bad for you drink tea and gossip about boys. Some things never change.

tea partys

ok, so im anything but your typical female, ive got funny colored hair tattoos and percings, i liek working on dirtbikes 4wheelrs as well as riding them when my body alouse me too, ohh and fishing im a huge fishing dork,.
my point is, im 25 and i rember as a lil. kid i never really was big into toys, it was art music and playing in the sand box and makeing mud pies, BUT I DO rememeber was a tea set my aunt bought for me and how much i loved that thing, im sure it was nothing fancy, it couldnt have been for i am the clutz of the family and evry one knows not to put pricy things in my hands lol. but man did i love that tea set. I am anything but the girl in the cute dress with ruffles, grown to be the women in the nice dress and high heeled shose, but i am WOMEN who LOVED and Played with her teaset as a kid. And if i loved it back then (25 now) and am the way i am to day.. theres no way lil girls dont play with tea sets. they are in the heart of evry girl no matter who they trun out to be in life, and will contine to be in evry girl thats born. pass that tea set on to a lil girl and i bet when she grows up she will rember how much fun she had with it just as i do.

I have to get back on the case, here. I asked someone if her little granddaughter did tea parties, and she was going to ask her daughter. Haven't heard back. (They had a death in the family) Guess I'll wait a few more days and check in with her. Brings back a lot of memories, huh?
