Hoping that I just have a cold!

I have had a bit of a sore throat since Sunday and have been coughing (but not terribly). Today, I have been sneezing constantly and have a runny (gone through a box of tissues) nose. I am also really tired, but that is not really new. I have not had any chills or fever so I am hoping that this is your basic head cold. I did stay home from school today. We have an unspecified number of students that are now sick and a few have been hospitalized.:(

Barb - Keeping everything crossed that it is just a head cold. Let us know how you are doing.

*tkrik covering mouth and nose handing Barb a box of kleenex.*::hug:

DD18 and her friend were just here and they were telling me that a lot of kids in the dorm as well as their classes have colds.

hang in there, Barb. Drink some hot tea and take care of that cold. I am going to stick to that thought as opposed to the flu.

Either way, get well sooner than later.

Sounds like the cold I just got over. It lasted 3 weeks but no fever. Keeping my fingers crossed that you just have a cold!

The runny nose, and lack of fever make me suspect you have a cold not the flu. The flu makes you feel like someone hit you with their car. You are exhausted just making a cup of tea. You get hot/sweaty, and loopy to just sit and watch TV.

I hope you feel better quickly! Colds suck!

Have a doctor's appointment this morning; up coughing most of the night. Night sweats and now I am cold.

You got that right. I always have said it's like you have been hit by a truck. And that's an understatement. You will know when you have the flu. Having had the Asian Flu, the Hong Kong Flu - both pandemics - I can attest to it. Actual flu is awful.

You get up and get the can of soup. You have to sit down and rest. You get up and open the can and you sit down and rest. You get it in the pan on the stove and rest. You eat a little and rest. You spend your time on the couch with the horrible cough, horrible sore throat and fever and your sweaty body. And, I was young when I had these and healthy.

The actual flu is awful. A really bad cold is no picnic either.

Aw Barb. :( Let us know what the doctor says, and then get yourself into jammies and slippers and robe and get some rest.

PCP said that she thinks I just have a viral infection (or a bad cold). My temperature was 99.9. She gave me a prescription for cough med with codeine, said take Tylenol or Advil, and use my sinus rinse. She says that this is going around, long with H1N1. But at least she reassured me that it was a good idea to come in.

She also advised me to get my seasonal flu shot next week even if I still have this cold. She did not know if I would be eligible for the swine flu vaccine due to my age, and the fact that I am not on an immune suppressant drug. She thought it could depend on their supply. She also pointed out that I could not not get the nasal flu vaccine as it is a live virus, which I already knew. They are also going to start having flu clinics every day at 2:00 starting the first of November in the basement of the clinic. I think they are going to try to isolate possible flu patients from everyone else. You do not need an appointment. Sounds like a zoo to me.

soxmom 09-25-2009 08:08 AM

Dejibo 09-25-2009 08:44 AM

codiene cough syrup rocks!

barb02 09-25-2009 09:13 AM

I was up most of the night coughing. Codiene cough medicine neither stopped my cough nor made me sleepy. I am so weird. I took regular robitussin aroun 4:30 with a glass of water and it seemed to help. I am at work now. I did not want to miss another day. Luckily I only have one class this morning and then can go home.
