Anyone Blend with VitaMix or HealthMaster?

I am going to the home and garden show today. I love going to these shows, not only to look at home improvement products and services but also I LOVE those guys demonstrating the "gotta have it now" products. I don't buy them, but I enjoy them.

One of the ones that is at all the shows is the Vita Mix blender. I have always wanted one but wont' spend the $400 or so it costs. I have a magic bullet blender and use it every day, mornings for my protein shakes, and other times all the time. I do think I would use the Vita Mix blender but can't afford it.

Today I saw an infomercial hosted by Montel Willians pitching his new "Living Well blender" Has anyone else seen this infomercial? It looks amazing and does most of the things like the Vita Mix blender does.

I really want to start eating better and there is so much to be said for blending foods, especially about eating more fruits and veggies.

DUDE! Turn off the freakin' TV and read a book!!!!!!!!!!!

FYI: It looks like a whole bunch of papers stuck between two thicker, flat thingies.

I've seen the infomercials and it looks like a great machine. But....I get all excited about it and use it for a while and then stop. And it just becomes another appliance stored under the counter. If I could be sure I'd use it consistently I might try to save up for one. Right now, it's just easier to pop my vitamins and eat an apple.

Earl,

You can get a powerful blender for about $50, right? Why get one from an infomercial?

I've been looking at them since vacation where they served us delicious and refreshing fruit smoothies each morning made out of freshly picked tropical fruits, mmmm-mmmmmm good! :)

Desinie 09-26-2009 05:27 PM

I have a HealthMaster I bought a few months ago and love it. It really does work as well as the infomercial says. Even the green drinks that kinda look disgusting taste good! lol Honest! They are also a few hundred dollars cheaper than a VitaMixer which I was looking at first on e-bay. Also the VitaMixers were slightly used ( but you can never be sure how used they are til you buy one) on e-bay. It came with a lot of recipe books too. It even makes hot soups!

Same here, Wiz! In HI we had the most amazing smoothies and we learned that the trick is never, ever use ice— freeze the fruit!

I can replace my pretty decent blender 10+ times for the price of one of those. I'm not a vegetarian, if I want soup, I boil a bone. ;)

Dejibo 09-27-2009 07:37 AM

according to montel (and he knows all, yes?) this isnt just a blender! its an emulsifier! you can put WHOLE fruits, and veggies in there! grrrrr......it pulverizes them into liquid! grrrrrr......$200 yep, you gotta love montel.

Pink 09-27-2009 12:43 PM

I agree with Montel - a blender for sure!:)

ewizabeth 09-27-2009 01:07 PM

I'll cut the apple into quarters first and save $150. I guess I'm a bit on the frugal side. ;)

SallyC 09-27-2009 02:09 PM

Orrrrr push it through a sieve, like my Grandma use to do....or boil them 'till they're mush.

I have a Vitamix. I bought it at Costco in 2002. I use it at least 4 times a week. Mostly for making smoothies. This summer I used it to puree tomatoes and freeze the puree in ice trays for use later. The trick to using it regularly...at least for me... make space to keep it on the counter. In our previous house I had no place to keep it handy, so I forgot about it. Plus it is too heavy for me to lift out of the cabinet.

I don't know anything about the one Montel recommends. He was a big Vitamix fan... he gave away several during a Oprah show once. GUess he was trying to make something similar available at a cheaper price??

Earl 09-27-2009 03:53 PM

Well, I went to the home show and saw LOTS of stuff I wanted but didn't "need" Vitamix was there and very impressive. I am not in a position to pay $450 for a blender even though I want one.

I talked to the guy about the montel blender and he told me (hearsay) that Montel was in negotiations to be a vitamix spokesman but they couldn't come to terms, so he put his name on the old Jack LaLane blender and is marketing it. He said it is built in Asia and is not as powerful or good, built in the USA is a big thing with me so someday, maybe I will get a vitamix, until then, my Magic Bullet will have to do.

Almost every other booth was selling Solar Panels for your house, it would be SO nice to go from paying $300 in the summer per month to zero but can't afford that either. I spent $6.50 all day, $2.50 for admission and a lemonade with one refill. I did good.

Today I recuperate and rest.

I got a VitaMix, and (sort of) didn't cost me a dime

OK- it's Party Time- specifically Margarita time! I have a beautiful red Vitamix blender.

In July of 2009 I loaned a friend $250.00 to help him make his rent. He told me he did not know how soon he would pay me back, but swore he would.

I did not hear from him as far as the loan goes went until Nov, then he paid me $20.00. then nothing until April, and another $20.00. Today I got a knock at the door and saw the package man's truck out front. I got to the door after he left and there was a big box on my doorstep. Inside the box was a brand new Vitamix blender complete with all the accessories and recipe books. There was also a gift note. it said "I'm so sorry I could not pay you back in cash, but remember you talked about these one time. I hope this makes us square. signed my friend. it DOES!! YIPPEE.

I already made a smoothie with stuff I had, straw berries and a banana and a kiwi, it's amazing how I can't even taste the greep top of the strawberries or the seeds. it just pulverizes them. Laura is going shopping tonight after work so I expect her to do most of it in the produce section. I also just found a website with the recipies for Jamba Juice smoothies.

I have called my friend and gotten his voice mail, I have also texted him. This is COOL!!! Anyone that owns one and can give me any tips, I would love to hear them.

Actually Vita Mix is in my area and I used to deliver there, no I don`t have one of their blenders. They do seem to make a decent product, but 400 bucks for a blender is a lot more than I would pay.

Earl 10-15-2010 10:45 PM

Loving it!!!

I have had it for 1 1/2 weeks now and use it at least twice a day. Today we made quiches for breakfast and. Triple berry smoothies for an afternoon snack. I used to have candy. Most of our shopping is on the produce isle now.

FYI if anyone "wants" one but does not like the price, 1) they are worth it and 2) this weekend on QVC they are selling then on their easy pay system. It won't do what other blenders will do. Like when I make strawberry smoothies I dont even taste the green tops or seeds. Amazing. I give it 5 stars out of 5. Ask questions if you have any. I even made soup last night for dinner. It moves so fast it heats it up. (tortilla soup). :)

I need the 12-step program for QVC addiction. :o I'm off to their website now..................

Here's what I found - but no easy pay :(. The reviews aren't the greatest, either.

<<evil grin>> I KNEW you would be interested. but seriously, I never thought I would spend the dough, and fortunately I didn't need to. But to pay for it over a few months interest free would take the sting out a bit.

We are eating healthier with more produce, and it's fun to cook also.

:)

I got my bread maker on their easy-pay program and it definitely makes it easier....and actually doable for me. I couldn't manage it any other way.

I'd love to have this mixer but the reviews scare me a little. Plus, I just can't justify spending this amount on a blender/emulsifier. I'm afraid once I bought it I couldn't afford the produce to use in it!

I hope you're enjoying yours. It's got to be great during the summer when so many fruits and veggies are available. :)

Dejibo 10-16-2010 02:01 PM

Hi, my name is Debbie, and I am a QVC-a-holic. :o

I read alot of those reviews and many folks are very unhappy with this machine. Based on the complaints I would not risk buying this machine from QVC. Maybe Kohls or someplace closer so I could take it right back and not pay shipping and handling for such a mess if it was awful. Many are complaining about how loud it is, and how huge it is. many are complaining that only after a few uses it broke, and is leaking oil. also you cannot remove the bottom blade to clean it, it must be cleaned in place. The lid is hard to lock in place so if you have a grip issue I would worry.

Dangit! I really wanted this machine, but the reviews have talked me out of it. :(

Earl 10-16-2010 03:56 PM

The reviews for the HealthMaster are horrible, the Vitamix are excellent. I love mine, we had a delicious quiche last night for dinner made from it, then baked ((obviously)). HealthMaster is cheap and made in China, VitaMix is made in the USA with heavy duty materials. 65,000 restaurants use them. Go into any Jamba Juice (among others) and you will see them.

Not trying to sell them, just stating facts. BUT if you are in the market, buy one today from QVC for a discount, LOL.
