Well...It's official...I have a date...sigh.
I received my call today from my surgeon...one month from tomorrow I will have my thymectomy in Atlanta.....I'm nervous....hopeful....concerned.
Just praying for remission, if it is God's Will. I know I am in His care...but a girl can't help but dread it. I've learned alot from all of you. Let me know if there is anything I need to know that hasn't already been posted before. :smileypray:Jujuan |
It is going to be OK!
Hey sweetheart! I KNOW how scared you are right now but it WILL be OK!:D
God is watching over you - you are in His hands! I was terrified when I had mine - so much so that they had to give me 4 times the amnt of meds to sedate me and I was crying the entire time before I FINALLY went under but am still so grateful that I had it done!:D Remission is around the corner - please don't EVER give up on that! Love, Erin:hug: Quote:

Hi
Good luck for your operation!
Cut yourself some slack! You are allowed to be terrified before an operation its totally natural and the staff expect you to be scared. I have found the Drs and nurses that are around me just before I go under have been some of the most caring and reassuring people. Its the fear of the unknown and not being in control of the situation. ( I have blubbed like a big baby outside theatre! I wasn't the first and I wont be the last!) I hope it goes really really well for you! Keep us posted on how you are doing Love Rach |
Hey Jujuan,
Having the surgery could make all the difference for you. You may not see many benefits right away, it sometimes takes time. I am so glad I had mine in 02. While I saw small improvements every day, it took 4 years for me to see the full benefits, and I am so much better than I was. I was a total couch potato and could walk very little due to the weakness and could do so little on my own. I still have some bad days and sometimes weeks that put me on the couch, but they are few and far between now. I am unable to tolorate other drugs, so I just take mestinon. I chose not to take pred. You are going to be so happy you had it done. If you have any questions at all that I may be able to help you with, feel free to ask. Take care and I will keep you in my thoughts & prayers.;) Big Hugs, Pat |
I will be thinking of you and praying for your speedy recovery. Take care ~ Melanie

You will be in my thoughts for a speedy recovery. Remember my thymectomy put me into remission for 17 years so think positive! Also it took a year for full remission to happen so patience and positive thinking helps!

Jujuan, I hope it goes really well for you.
Having a discussion on the phone or in person with the anesthesiology team is a very good idea. Make sure they know what meds are bad for MG. Pediatric gas is often used in dogs ;) so that a patient can be brought out quickly and not be so groggy. Muscle relaxants can make your swallowing and breathing worse. And morphine, while it may be necessary for the pain, will make your breathing worse. I hope they will take very good care of you! Annie |
I had mine done about 6 weeks ago, and have seen small improvements so far. But I would do it again at this point just for those tiny improvements. Just ask for help. For the first few weeks it will be tough, but managable with help. Good luck!!! I will pray for you.

I hope all goes well and it helps you feel better.

Hi Jujuan,
I will be thinking of you, I'm sure everything will go super smoothly!!!! I remember I was so totally fine right up til I was wheeled into theatre, as I was having an epidural I was given a premed, then I was terrified, but as soon as I started talking to the theatre staff I was fine, very wierd indeed. be thinking of you, take care Kate |
I am so thankful :Bow:For all of you here.. I just don't know what I would do without posting my concerns and questions here. Sometimes it feels like there is no one at all who understands. My husband and family sort of understands....but it's hard for them too without going thru this stuff.
You guys are great. JJ |
JJ-
Hang in there! Between now and your surgery, you (and your family) have a ton of stress. And stress never does nice things to / for us! Things will get better! And you're right - this is great place 'cuz everyone of us can identify each other!! Sue |
Hey JJ,
Just stay positive and any questions you have...just ask away. We are all here for you. Take care.;) Hugs, Pat |
