Elective Surgery..

Has anyone with MS, ever have an implant operation? (Boob lift)?

Did your MS raise it's ugly head, after operation?

No, it's not for me..

Dejibo 10-14-2009 01:46 PM

I have often wondered about this. I had breast cancer years ago, and swore someday I would reconstruct. now I am afraid if I do, MS will go crazy. I am looking forward to hearing some answers.

Erin524 10-14-2009 01:57 PM

I want to have reduction surgery. (my back and shoulders hurt all the time from carrying around the boobies. they're heavy!)

I'd love to go and have a reduction done, but aside from being worried that I cant afford something like that, I'm also worried I'd set off the MS. Not sure that it would be worth it if it did something to make the MS go whacko.

SandyC 10-14-2009 03:03 PM

Well, Jim didn't have a boob job but did just fine after major urostomy surgery to repair his bladder. No MS flair up at all. He's had procedures since then and nothing after that either. Same ol' same ol'.

I had one about a million years ago, before diagnosis, and didn't have any post op issues. Loved them when I was younger, wouldn't do it at this age though.

I think they're finally doing the type where they take fat out of one spot and they can move it to the better place, lol. Now if that were cheap enough, I might consider it someday. :D

I did have a flare up following major surgery in Dec 2000, but I was undiagnosed at the time and had no idea I had MS. If I had known, they probably could have taken precautions of some kind.

SallyC 10-15-2009 10:07 AM

Just kidding, above. It really isn't me..

Sally,
Do you have a tattoo somewhere too we should know about?

Can you imagine? no wait, get that out of MY HEAD!!!

Riverwild 10-15-2009 03:19 PM

Quit using my pic Sal! I've shaved since it was taken! :p

freeinhou 10-15-2009 06:57 PM

Thanks all for the laugh! I don't think it'd matter much. I had open heart surgery in 2004 and MS was a non issue. I've had MS since 1988.

Now just WHERE do you think they are going to find fat on YOU?

As your good friend I am willing to donate to your cause! :D

(cause if they tried to move it from one place to another on me, where would they move it TO? :p )

no boob job for me, but i did have some major oral surgery last year.not even a hint of an MS problem. i didnt even stop my LDN and i didnt even use the vicoden they gave me and i was back to work the next day. MS may even be a bit of a help for us on this, we already fell like such crap that we dont even notice the discomfort

hollym 10-16-2009 01:07 PM

I have been seriously contemplating reduction surgery myself. I am going to see if I can get it covered by insurance because of the pain involved. My friend got hers covered. I literally have permanent imprints of my bra straps on my shoulders, it is that bad. The skin is discolored in the exact shape of the straps.

In my case, I think I would take a risk. I also think I would ask my neuro if it would be good to set me up for IVSM right after the surgery. The only reason I haven't acted on this yet is that I'm just a big chicken about surgery and pain. I have never in my 39 years had any kind of surgery, so it is fear of the unknown.

A lot of insurers will pay for a reduction, Erin. It's not considered cosmetic as it does seem to cause back problems for many women. Check with your insurer!

Erin524 10-16-2009 03:29 PM

I'm afraid to use my insurance. Worried that I'll get dropped if I use it too much.

I just got the bill for my IVSM back in july. $1500...(and some change) I got the feeling that my insurance didnt pay much towards it, and I'm worried constantly that because I used my insurance that the company is going to drop me for using it.

Plus, there's the whole thing of having to be anesthetized for the surgery. I have this serious fear of anesthesia (which is weird, since my dad is a nurse anesthetist) I'm afraid of the pain after the surgery.

It's not just being scared of my insurance company dropping me, it's the surgery/anesthesia phobia.

SallyC 10-16-2009 06:31 PM

The operation was a success and she feels fine. I hope it stays that way.

Thanks all for your insight and giggles.:grouphug:

legzzalot 10-16-2009 09:27 PM

Glad to hear your friend is doing well Sal.

OK now for the important topic here... Can we partner off with one another and get a discount on a twofer? I mean for those of you wanting to go smaller, I will be happy to take the leftovers!

I tried this when I had my tubes tied there was a lady in there getting a reduction I asked thde doc if we could get a two for one deal and since we would both be out if I woke up with her boobs...:D

Kitty 10-16-2009 10:02 PM

Honestly, if I had the choice, I'd go with less. Having an over abundance up there just isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'd rather have less. Even when I lose weight I never lose it there. It always stays the same. :Sigh:

legzzalot 10-16-2009 10:19 PM

Not fair. I lose weight its the first place it disappears. I lost 25 lbs and went down a cup size.

Erin524 10-16-2009 11:09 PM

Me too. I'd much rather be smaller in that area. I buy minimizer bras at Dillards because they just get in the way sometimes. So they're scrunched up into the minimizer and they're out of the way, but they're scrunched!

My boyfriend said he'd be sad if I had surgery to make things a more managable size, but he's also a bit disturbed by how tight I wear my bra. I also have the permanent marks on my shoulders and back from the straps.

Plus, right now with the left half of my body numb, things just feel...weird and funky. Wearing a bra is kind of torture right now. I switched to a sport bra, but since it does nothing to minimize things, or hold them down. Like I said...they get in the way!

Well, the stuff from the middle to lower areas would like to be promoted to an upper office in the front of the building if you get my drift. :plain:

Not many get to have a prominent position, especially later in life.

You're perfect. :mfr_wha: Don't even think of changing a thing.
