Non-MS Immune system trouble after quiting CRABs?
The doctors keep telling me that since I'm not on the crabs anymore my immune system should be back to it's overactive self. Problem is I keep getting sick and getting infections that won't go away. Currently it's a staff infection on my face (lovely) which has come back again despite my being chock full of anti-biotics. 3rd trip to the dermatologist this afternoon.
Has anyone else stopped using one of the crabs and seen similar results? |
I don't have any experience for you because Jim's still taking his Beta. But he has moved down to half a dose instead of a full dose for awhile. Jim had staff once in his foot, it started as cellulitis from a small cut. It took several IV antibiotics before they found one that worked. He's also had it in his face from a simple pimple. Hope you feel better soon.

Try a little LDN to get your immune system back in sinc..

I have been off all of the crab's for a year and a half. I have not noticed more or less infections. I have had a few sinus infections, but that is normal for me.
|
I don't have any advice for you as I am on C. I do notice that I actually get more sinus infections while on C than I did before.
I would talk to your dr. about this before hand, but honey can act as an effective antibiotic (in some cases more than "manmade" antibiotics). When I was 1st diagnosed with MS my neuro at the time recommended that I take 1 tsp of honey a day to help my immune system. Just some info. . . .I did a quick google on it. http://www.news-medical.net/news/2006/07/27/19109.aspx I hope the infection clears soon. Let us know how you are doing. |
I went back to the dermo yesterday afternoon and he was a little freaked out. I have a scrip for another, stronger broader spectrum antibiotic so I imagine this will take care of it. Really, it's not that bad just a PITA. Thanks for the replies!

(((KAO))) - Saying prayers that this abx will work.

KAOheim,
I'm not sure you would consider my situation similar to yours since I have never used the DMDs - some years I seem to get everything and anything going around and other years everyone else is sick around me and I stay healthy. Hope the staff infection clears up soon. |
So far so good no bad reactions to the new AB and I only have a few new spots. Should drop off to none today. Boy am I looking forward to getting out of the house this weekend just have to remember to use the sunscreen. Thanks again for the kind words!

Yeah!!! Hope this continues.

My concern
I was on Avonex for over 10 years from 96 -06 and I am somewhat concerened that since the Interferons are also very stromg anti-Cancer drugs that the absence of this stuff might let anything nasty(like Cancer) that may have been suppressed by the Interferon have a rebound effect and now go into an accelerated growth mode.

I never thought of that, Jack, but it does make you wonder??? LDN is supposed to protect against some cancers....Have you added that to your regimine yet? :)

When I was on "C" it let a nasty infection get in my body and multiply, by lack of it's surveillance system to the bodies own fight against invasive germs. It even says that on the insert for "C".
It took 5 months, many doctors, and meds in all categories, to get rid of it. That is when I stopped the "C". It wasn't doing anything positive for me, same amount of relapses from He!! Then the infection, my doctor said stop it. Then when I tried to start it again for two weeks years later, I got site/allergic/hives reactions so bad, from the new formula that made it possible to be out of the refrigerator for 30 days. So I haven't been on any DMD's since 2004-2005 They thought I was SPMS with relapses. I was going to try the MBP8298 clinical trial and was denied because I took steroids for the my bad relapses, and I took other meds that excluded me. The LDN has put me back to better than my early years as RRMS. Neuro confirmed this on exam and MRI. :) |
