Cost of Mestinon?
OK, as many of you know I started back on Mestinon  and here is my question of the month :Scratch-Head: ..LOL
How much do you have to pay for your mestinon? :mfr_wha: 18 years ago it cost me over $300 a month, well I just got my EOB from my ins. and do you know how much the store charged them? $37.05 thats right.. 37 dollars, what I don't understand is why when I had no ins. I was paying over 300! :sad-dollar: and that was 18 years ago. Soooo if you don't mind answering.. what do you pay? :Hum: :Thanx: |

I pay $0.00 (Canadian dollars) I have a great co-pay insurance plan where my insurance covers the lions share and my wife's covers the balance including dispensing fees. |
LOL, maybe I should ask Americans how much they pay, I forgot Canada has universal health care
I am lucky in the fact that I am covered under my husband V.A. medical coverage so I too pay nothing but I am still wondering about people who do have to pay what it cost. |
I pay $20 for 90 days
I pay for mestinon as a generic and my co-pay for generics is $20 for 90 days. Maybe 18 years ago, mestinon wasn't a generic yet? I don't know when it was initially developed and for the first 7 years, the drug companies can pretty much charge what they want. After the first 7 years, generic competition causes the price to go down. But, on second thought, I don't know if that would apply to mestinon since my understanding is that only one company manufactures it. Hmmmm???
|
Back in 01 my copay was $20 for the brand name and shortly after they started giving me the generic for $10. I don't know either when it became available in generic, but it would cost me $60 with my insurance for the brand name now.
Hugs, Pat |
It depends.....
I pay $35 for the 60 MG and $65 for 180 MGS a 30 day supply.
Of the 2, I much prefer the 180 MGS timespan......much better for me! LOL! Erin:hug: |
:yikes: Boy was I being ripped off! I wonder how many people without insurance are paying through the nose for these meds?
Makes me wonder :Hum: |
I ususally just pay a $15 co-pay, but until my COBRA kicks in I have to pay cash...I just paid 181 bucks for 240 pills...I take 120 mg 4x daily...and you bet I will be getting reimbursed once my insurance gets fixed.

I pay $65 for name brand after my insurance has paid which is not much!

I take the generic. 90 pills cost me $43.85 flat cost - - no insurance. I shopped it across three different pharmacies and got three different prices. The hi - low variation was $10 (for the SAME drug!!).

Just for worldwide info, in France, the cost for a bottle of 20 brandname pills is presently (exchange rate for the dollar fluctuating...) 8.7 US$.
Of course, for myasthenics, the costs are fully covered by the state social security. Maurice. |
HI
I dont pay for Mestinon. NHS, if I did the perscription charge would be £7.50 I think maybe slightly more or less.
However I would be willing to pay if I could find a Dr to diagnose me! Swings and roundabouts as they say. Love Rach |
I pay $10 for a month's supply (60mg x 3 daily) of the generic at Kroger. But now that my neuro has cut me to 30mg x 3 that will last me 2 months!:yahoo:
|
I pay $27.80 for 60 (60 mg) tablets. I don't have insurance and am paying full price. I called various pharmacies and found that the price varies greatly. Walgreens had the lowest price.
|
Mestinon Syrup: Three months supply (11-1/3 bottles) is $1,148.01.
Zero AFTER I've met my drug deductible. Who needs food anyway? Annie |
Here in Australia I am on a disability pension, so that means all i ever pay for any prescription is $5.30, but the real cost of mestinon 60mg for 150 tabs is $56 australian dollars.

in the northeast, the average wholesale price of mestinon 60mg brand name, is 156.00 per 100, the typical pharmacy gets anywhere between 16-20 %off that price.
the cost for 100 of the generic is approx 22.00 (this is at retail pharmacy level, the chains do a bit better on purchasing) Most insurance companies discourage the purchase of brand name since its 8 times as much. and they will have a very small copay compared to brand name. I have what I consider good coverage , but the insurance company charges the patient the difference of non preferred brand name drugs. Ive only been using 1 tablet a day for months now, so my cost is very low. Im still working on my 2nd bottle of 100. the cost of the brand name mestinon syrup is 113.00 per pint, (16ozs)there is not generic syrup that I know of. since all insurance companies pay pharmacies well below the average wholesale price, as well as govt funded plans, if you pay cash for these drugs, it pays to speak with a pharmacy where prices arent set in stone, as a big chain store. small retailers are hurting, and for cash customers of large purchases, most are willing to slice off alot of profit to keep a customer, so although I understand how difficult it is for some to move around, it pays to really shop around if you have enough stores nearby. |
Cost of Mestinon
I have insurance and at Walgreens I paid $10. for a 1 month supply of the generic

With insurance and without
Hi Joan Marie,
My first prescription for Mestinon was the 60mg tablets that my insurance required I buy it in generic form. It was $5 for 45 pills, which was a one month supply. I am now on the syrup and my dose is 0.5 ml 3x a day. When I had insurance last year it was around $9 for a 30 day supply. When I lost my job I went through the Valeant program and I now get it for free. I found Walmart to be the cheapest, even though they had to order it. Good luck, Stephanie |
with my insurance I pay $10 a month for 150 generic pills.
|
I pay $5 (co-pay) for 300 GENERIC tablets. I could get a 90 day supply (900) for $10 -- but, with the humidity problems we have in Tennessee -- I prefer to get mine "fresh" every month (LOL). As it is, my pharmacy puts about 10 desiccants in each bottle of tablets.
Name brand would cost me $75 per month -- $100 for 90 days. |
because I have diagnosed
state pays
|
I have ins.... $40. copay for 3 months
|
When I had insurance, I was paying about $30 for 90-60mg tablets...
|
if you buy a large quantity, keep the bottle closed tightly, and use a second bottle to keep only a couple of weeks supply at a time. Dont continously open the original bottle as moisture and just the air will cause the tablets to become more brittle.
Im not sure how much the humidity in the air effects the actual strength of the dose, but I see from my own bottle the tablets are much more brittle over a few months from constantly opening it. Now I keep a few bottles with few tablets in it and refill them all at one time every 2 or 3 weeks. |

Keeping them in the refrigerator helps also. |
Our co-pay is $7. for a 90 day supply of 60mg 3x daily.
Love Lizzie |
I buy my mestinon in bulk - 500 tablets - Valeant brand - and I pay around $550.00 - which lasts me for about 1 month.
|

Cost of mestinon
It is a generic drug now. My pharmacy charges $34.00. I just started taking it again myself. I believe my last dose was in 1981. I do not remember what it cost then. My husband was in the military and I had a $2.00 copayment at that time.

I get mine at Rite Aide. I have insurance and I pay $20 for a month's supply which is 120 tablets. It would not matter how many tablets. It is by the month. Pretty crazy if you ask me. I am getting the generic 60 mg.

Test X Billed: $5,000 Allowable: $150 People without insurance are getting screwed and having to pay the full $5,000 that is being billed. I don't remember getting similar statements for medication, but insurance companies work out the same deal with the pharmacies that they do with the testing companies. I did get a really odd one for a recent stay in the hospital. As being in the hospital was not my choice, I refused most treatments that they wanted to give me as I was afraid they would delay my surgery. The total billed for the stay was $300. The total insurance paid: $1,350. They explained in a note at the bottom that even when the bill comes in below the contract price, they pay what they've negotiated. I'm surprised the hospital hasn't asked me to come back and stay a few more days. |
