Great pain relief lotion.
I have found the most remarkable doc I've ever come across. He is a physiotrist and also an anesthesiologist/pain management specialist. He also runs/owns a N.E. Florida HBOT facility. It is so refreshing to talk to this very intellegent man that combines this knowledge from many fields including non traditional therapies.
To make this short, he prescribed a combination pharmacutical lotion that works so well on the skin pain I have. I thought you all might like the formula. Here goes: KETO10/FLEX1/LIDO10/KETAMIN2.5. The pharmacist mixed it into an approx 8 oz container. Maybe your doc will write you a Rx. If he does, be sure to wear a rubber glove and apply it very sparingly on the HOT zone. Mine has lasted me about 4 months because I just use it for acute pain breakthroughs only. I don't have regular insurance, so my cost was $55.00. A bargin considering the fact that within one minute after I rub a little on my toes, foot and leg, the breakthrough doesn't exist; it is GONE. On top of that, it has lasted for over 24 hrs on several ocassions. Anyone else had any success with a similar lotion? Michael |
Have tried similar lotions
Yes -I have tried similar lotions on my hands for RSD as well as my legs for Meralgia Paresthetica. My Dr. made up several combinations - hoping the one combo would finally work. Unfortunately - none helped. In fact just rubbing the lotion into my hand made me worse. I have extreme allodynia (sensitivity to touch).
I am so happy this has helped you. I know others who reported success with these formulas. I am considering HBOT. I'd be intrerested in knowing more about this very good Dr. you saw in FL. You mentioned he diod HBOT. I am at my wit's end with constant pain of both FM and RSD. No pain meds for me. NOne work at all. Severe full body pain 24/7. Sydney |
Hi Michael,
That was very thoughtful of you to post that information, thanks!! all the best :) |

Dr. Murray is great! He told me that he uses several "formulas" of lotion. If you plan to see him be aware that he rushes no one. He takes all of the time he needs with every patient. He only schedules a few consults a day because of this but, you may still run two of three hours late for your visit. But if that happens, he will not rush you. Several have told me that he is sometimes still with a patient at 8:00 pm. Please ask if there is any thing else I can help you with. Michael |
Thanks for the Dr. info
Michael,
I checed out the website for the HBOT. Unfortunately it didn'T list Fibromyagia as a condition that they treat. They mentioned RSD on the Home Page but then did not list it on the page where it indicated conditions they treat. Have you had HBOT or no anyone who was sucessful with it? I am so glad the cream is helping you. I would have to but a huge tub if it helped me as my condition is so widespread. Well.I may give a call to FL and ask about their tretment. Thanks for the info Sydney |
Been away a while
Hi Sydney, do give them a call because I know he treats Fibrom. He is a pain doc. By the way, my RSD is systemic, but it is controlled over most of my body with a regiment of Pain drugs. Do you have flair-ups over a particular part of your body, or does it hit you all at once, all over?
Hope you find some help somewhere Sydney! :) Michael |
Michael,
First let me say Hello, and Welcome you to our family. I'm not sure when you joined us, but I don't think I have had the pleasure of welcoming you. About the lotion that your Dr prescribed you, is it mixed equal parts? I may see if I can get my Dr to give me a script for it. Thank you so much for sharing this helpful info. If it helps at least one person then it is a great thing. :) a lot of people use the Lidocaine patches and since this has lidocaine in it then they might benefit from it as well. I used the patches for a long time and then after my divorce I lost my insurance I had so I stopped most of my meds, including the patches. I am now on Methadone which has helped me more than anything and has allowed me to wear a shoe again, and that it great to me. I look forward to getting to know more about you. Have a good weekend. (((((((HUGS))))))) Janet:hug: |
Hbot
I know 2 people who did great with the HBOT therapy- It didnt work for me but I think its worth a try!

I'm glad it worked for you :)
I wish I could have said the same for me. I was on 2 different ones at 2 different times. They were both similar to the cream you have, in fact, I think one was the exact same as yours. The first one wasn't doing anything so my doctor told me to stop. Then I was put on another one which ended up making my foot swell up really big because of a severe allergic reaction. :( Glad the creams worked for you though. |
i know lots of people HBOT has helped...
just not me.. (well.. it healed my skin but not the RSD). Rxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |
cream
Michael
I use a cream that is a little bit like yours. Here is what mine is. 2% amitriptyline hydrochloride 2% bupivacaine hydrochloride (local anesthetic) 5% gabapentin (Neurontin) 5% ketaprofen (the NSAID Orudis) 10% ketamine hydrochloride 2% lidocaine "in lipoderm base" the "base" pharmacist uses makes ALL the difference in how the cream works. The first place I got this from had a whole line of different creams, and would not release to me the exact name of base they used. They charged $100 for a small jar (about an ounce) their cream... and my insurance would not cover it up front because it was out-of-state. They had to say what the drugs were in it though. So, once we knew it worked, my doctor wrote for a 90 day supply so I could send to my insurance's mail order compounding pharmacy. The mail order place, where their first priority was cost savings - used an inexpensive base. This cream did not work nearly as well. In fact, it hardly worked at all. The cream was thin, watery - hard to apply. I called the pharmacy and asked to be sure that it was even the right prescription. The druggest said he had trouble mixing it and worried about it being to thin. He said he would order in a different base for my refill. So... when I ordered it again, it was thicker, a little bit greasy, but it worked a lot better. Still it was not nearly the strength of pain relief as the very first little jar I got from the expensive place. Then, my employer changed insurance carriers. Their mail order pharmacy did compounding but did not use ketamine. Now I had to try to find a new compounding pharmacy that would do something with ketamine. FINALLY found one. I talked to the pharmacist, and he said he had made up a cream for his uncle who had terrible shingles, used several bases till he found one that allowed the medications to "glide through the skin" taking the medication right through the skin layers to the nerves. He said the less expensive bases do not allow for the medications to glide through the skin as easily. He took the time to look up RSD (website I gave him) and called me back the next day. I thought that was GREAT!! That way, he knew what I had, and needed it for. Now he understood for RSD, you need the medication to go deep into the tissue to get to the nerves - unlike a base you would use for a dermatology reason, where you would want the base to let the medication stay on the skin surface to treat acne for example. Like his uncle did for his shingles. He thought he knew just what I would need - but would need to order it. Did I mind waiting a couple extra days? Not a problem!! I would gladly wait a couple extra days! When I got the cream from this pharmacist - I was amazed at the difference. It worked really well. Then, my RSD ramped up a few notches - spread all the way down my back. I talked it over with my doctor and we increased the ketamine from 5% to 10% (like in the script I gave above). WOW what a difference. It still does not make my pain "GONE" like yours does Michael... I wish it did... as I do not take any pain meds and wish something would make the pain gone!! But, this cream does take a great deal of the edge off. I have noticed that this stronger cream does make my tongue numb and I feel a bit woozy if I put to much on my body. The first day I used it where I would normally... my entire back, shoulders, upper arms, neck and lower face, and my foot... and went off to work... a couple hours later I started feeling a bit odd and I asked a co-worker if I looked stoned, as I felt like it. The next time I used it, I just put it all over my back... didn't get the woozy stoned feeling, but my tongue did get numb. Next time I go back to the doctor, I will ask for the lower strength cream for most areas, and just get this stronger one for the worst areas. I would hate to get a DUI because of ketamine cream. Not sure this can happen, but would hate to be denying myself pain meds because of safe driving only to get a DUI because of the cream. Anyway, if you have tried a cream like this, and it has not worked -- try asking the pharmacist if he can try a different base for you. It may well be the answer to having it work for you. I have 4 different creams with all the exact same meds - just four different bases -- and they all work at different levels -- with one not working at all and one working really well and the other two falling in between. Oh - and the first pharmacy that charged $100 for about an ounce? Pure GREED. Even using an expensive base, this last pharmacy charged $72 for 400grams - looks like about 3 cups. My co-pay was $20. Not bad at all. Jules |
