Leg Pain

Do any of you ever have an achiness in upper legs muscles and weakness. I don't have pins and needles or burning (in upper leg muscles) -just aching. I have pins and needles in other places.

Now that you ask, yes I do have the pain and weakness. But couldnt tell you what to do about it. I usually use a moist heating pad to try to take some of the pain away. I am on so many pills I dont know what is working for what.b

Statins can cause muscle weakness and leg pain. Do you take a statin to conmtrol your cholesterol?

Yes, statins can cause muscle weakness. Thank you for posting that. They are something a CMTer should not take. Thanks again.

Hi All,

Just read the above threads and I am concerned.
I have Diabetis and have been prescribed Simvastin for high Cholesterol since October this year. My Cholesterol then was 14.3, with diet control and meds it is now down to 8.6.

Since two weeks after taking the Simvastin I developed electric shock pains down the left side of my thigh. I returned to my DD and he said it was Diabetic Neuropathy.

After reading the side effects of Statins now I am not too sure the Doctor was right, but, surley he must have known the side effects of these drugs?

Doctors never tell patients about side effects of prescribed drugs. Possibly many never read the published side effects. Most people never experience any side effects.

I had muscle pain in my legs after taking statin for 20 years. I cannot say for sure it was the statins or my neuropathy causing the muscle pains. I stopped takin statins (Zocor) and most of the muscle pain disapeared. There is still some lingering effect. Muscle pain and weakness from statins is sometimes irreversible.

Read this! It is an eye opener!

I think it is rather criminal of doctors to not find out the truth themselves. The patients have to do this for them!

I totally agree with you Sue.
My Dr prescribed gabapentin for the neuropathy that he created by giving me Simvastin in the first place.

Gabapentin have their own bad side effects as well, ohhh just put me in a plastic sack somewhere.

Leg pain & statins

Hi everyone again. Above note I pressed wrong key. I then typed a detailed history & didn't silly me press wrong key again. lost all that info.
I have also had problems with keeps saying I'm not logged in. Somehow I'm being logged out. Maybe tomorrow when I'm not too tired I shall try again.

After a terrible night last night, with agonizing pains that have now started in my shoulder as well as my leg, my wife finally managed to get hold of our Doctor and explained, AGAIN, the symptoms and my belief that the simvastin is the cause of the pain.

Ist reply from him, no, no its not the statins, Ist question he asked was, is his urine redish coloured? answer yes. Oh thats the start of Myopathy...stop the Stimvastin at once.......

AARRRGGGHHHHH

I would certainly get your CPK done. That said, I have PN and myopathy, with aching pain, and have never taken a statin....not that the doc didn't push it.
