Stem Cell Treatment success in Australia
Exciting news on our televisions and in our newspapers yesterday :
A Canberra teenager with multiple sclerosis has received a new stem cell treatment which appears to have reversed the disease. Ben Leahy, 19, was diagnosed with MS in 2008 and ended up in intensive care at one point with respiratory failure after his condition deteriorated rapidly. He was in a wheelchair when he underwent the procedure this year and today he is walking and recovering well. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/he...treatment.html http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/...?site=canberra |
wow, this is so interesting, getting stem cell treatment down under. I look forward to it becoming more commonplace.
thanks for posting raglet |
that's awesome ... and I've heard that stem cells are now more easily retrieveable from a living person ...
|
Good deal for him! Hope he continues to improve and that others may also benefit.

WooHoo!!! I love to hear this stuff. :D

I agree Sally!
It's just wonderful that this stem cell transplant has worked but even so, I am not getting my hopes up. I know as well as everyone else that hopes can be smashed and I'm happy to sit back and see how things proceed from now. We've all been there before! It's a fabulous start though, and certainly something to watch in the future.... :D |
I've wanted a reason to go to Australia, now I have one. Yippee. I hope they find our cure.

I致e been on MS World and friends of MSWorld. I just got active here a couple of days ago. I知 glad I found this board, again and now I知 learning my way around. One problem, they seem to log you out very quickly. I知 not sure why but I find it difficult to keep logging in. Thanks BOB :):):) |
Bob, do you delete all your cookies daily? That would force you to log on daily.
When you log in, be sure to check the box that says keep me logged in and then don't delete the Psychcentral and Neurotalk cookies. I hope this helps. :) |

Well, if she was they're moving very s-l-o-w-l-y 'cos that was back in 2009! :D :p ;) |
There is actually a study going on, and seeking participants, for stem cell transplantation. I don't have MS, rather MG. I underwent an immune system reboot in November (very similar to SCT) and am doing very well now. I've been researching everything for 2 friends with MS, hence my lurking on this board. :)
Anyway, if anyone is interested: http://www.stemcell-immunotherapy.org/ If/when my myasthenia symptoms reactivate, I will be seeking this treatment. Take care everyone. |
Kelly and Sally, I did not pay any attention to the dates.:ROTFLMAO:

This was an old thread, brought back up by Carmel Turner. Welcome Carmel. :)
