echoes long ago 12-19-2009 11:13 PM

we have ablizzard going on here right now. The dogs went out and when they came in all you could see were their eyes.....

Greggg 12-20-2009 01:31 AM

WOW...I feel guilty now. I had all my windows at the house open today. I guess sometimes I take this South Texas weather for granted. Take care in the snow...there's some crazy drivers out there!

mrsD 12-20-2009 04:47 AM

We only have "some" snow, not a whole lot, but this storm front did a major number on my FEET... they hurt like the devil yesterday. I have 3 Salonpas patches on them overnight and some Tylenol as well! I am getting really reactive to drastic weather changes lately!

nide44 12-20-2009 08:17 AM

We have lots of snow in the Chesapeake Bay / Wash D.C. / Balto area.
10-20 inches!! Its about 12-14" outside my door this a.m.
Will haveta dig out the cars later today, so we can go to work tomorrow.
We're used to 3-6 inches once or twice a winter and usually get a 'blizzard' of 18-25 inches in Feb. or early March - but this is totally unexpected in Dec in this area.
My feet were acting up last nite, but aren't so active this a.m.

mrsD 12-20-2009 09:14 AM

Hey Bob...take it easy with the snow removal....do it in small amounts throughout the day! Don't overdo either!

cyclelops 12-20-2009 09:40 AM

Looks like Philly took the prize! Baltimore was up there too.

darlindeb25 12-20-2009 01:04 PM

I'm here on Long Island like Echoes. In my area we got 20" of snow...the landlord had to dig me out before I could dig out the car. My arms are crying now. They are still talking about blowing and drifting snow. Dry and sunny here for the next 4 days though, which is nice...won't be warm enough to melt the snow, but it will go away much quicker than it does in Michigan.:winky:

Hope15 12-20-2009 01:07 PM

Of course it never snows where I am at in the San Francisco Bay Area, but we have had some very frosty nights that have wracked havoc on some of my outdoor plants. Right now as I am typing this, we are building up to a fairly good rain storm and you can feel it in the air. Of course the pressure is kicking up my arthritis and neuropathy too...

cyclelops 12-20-2009 01:10 PM

Oh those huge low pressure systems are the worst. I ache for days as they approach and the day when the 'eye' is near....ugh.

I need to live in the desert....except most of my large brood is here, in the midwest and I can't afford a second home for the winter. Besides, I don't want to leave my docs.

Ho, ho, ho, snow storms and tornadoes....love the midwest.

Then again, CA has earthquakes...terrifying.

echoes long ago 12-20-2009 02:31 PM

wound up with 25" here.......at least it was dry snow and not wet heavy snow.

cyclelops 12-20-2009 02:44 PM

Yeah you guys got nailed! It was nice watching you on TV this time. We got the last big one a few weeks ago and my sattelite went out...no TV for a day.

That's very true cyclelops, those California earth quakes are no fun at all that's for sure. You never know when one starts if it is going to be a little shaker.....or the BIG one.

echoes long ago 12-20-2009 09:44 PM

No school for the kids tomorrow!

The only place i can think of that is pretty immune to almost all bad weather is southern new mexico and arizona. No earthquakes, no blizzards, no tornadoes, no hurricanes. They do get sandstorms but thats about it.

dahlek 12-20-2009 09:57 PM

living in the heart of Northern VA? Outside of DC?

I gotta say we've got about 20" before it 'settled' today in the sun.
Does anyone have reccomendations for snow blowers that are small and easy to use? I'm useless of late due to the past summer's events and my DH is gonna have a heart attack w/this stuff! It's a big time guilty moment as I'd always been manic until recently about getting snow/ice off the driveway and sidewalks asap.
What's worse? It hurts me more that I really can't help. Sigh? or something: eek:
We will survive! We have power and lots of milk and TP! What more can one ask for but for the fact the HO-HO-day isn't far away? Count our blessings in as many ways as we can. Even the little ones.
:hug:'s to all for the holidays and keep faith and hope and pluck! - j

well in Auckland -

it must have been a pleasant 75F degrees today, with blue skies and sun screen, so unfortunately I won't be able to contribute to the conversation when it comes to how much snow we've had :p merry Christmas :)

But if I lived in NZ, I would be sooo scared of falling off the earth! How DO you guys hang on? (Just kidding, I envy you.)

I've got the best snow removal plan. My youngest son has come home for the Holidays (He's 23 and 6'4" & strong!)
He dug out all the cars and my work truck, yesterday :)- but I slipped on the ice :(, walking around my truck this a.m. and fell down in front of my door, trying to get my key into the lock of the truck. (A 3 Stooges, or Laurel & Hardy scene, I'm sure )
When I finally got to work, there is a car in my loading zone and I had to park a block away. Someone was kind enough (I think it was my 70 y.o. neighbor, the Barbershop owner) to have shoveled a path around my shop and I had minimal shoveling to do. Then all I had to do was spread Halite salt on the walkway (I've got 80 lbs of it).
So I'll just nurse my pulled muscles (could've been worse - thankfully just a few pulled muscles) from falling, and try to take it easy today.
It's 11 a.m. and not a soul has come into my store, yet.
I think its gonna be a slow day. Federal Offices, schools and state offices are either closed or on a delayed opening, here - today.

JoshuaY46012 12-21-2009 02:28 PM

We've got a MEASLY 2 inches or so :(

I just went shopping for some faux fur lined crocs *only thing my poor feet can bear in this weather :( *

cyclelops 12-21-2009 03:06 PM

Fur lined Crocs....oh my what will they think of next?

IDK, it's a bit crazy, eh?

I can not for one second wear shoes or boots, they just throw my feet into a huge flair!

I wish there was something else so I didn't walk around looking so goofy lol

cyclelops 12-21-2009 03:14 PM

Eh, who cares how one looks. You may start a trend. My feet used to hurt a lot, felt like walking on ground glass....now they only ache and are mostly cold and dead...except for that darn bone pain.

Have you tried MrsD.'s trick of epsom salt soaks?

I haven't, but I just had a trip to Costco and picked up two 4 lb bags, I'm going to give that a go tonight!

I have that glass, sharp rock pain with every step :(

One step at a time, haha!

cyclelops 12-21-2009 03:24 PM

Well dead feet may not be what you have in mind for the end product of neuropathy, but it beats pain.

Man a low front is moving in, I can feel it. Every joint aches. I have to hit the naprosyn, which they don't like me taking on IVIg. I don't care, my joints are killing me.

We have bad weather on tap for Dec. 23 and Dec.24 and my family has to travel to get to our house. I can literally feel the low front approaching.

We have a foot to 20 inches on the ground. I drove my Suburu Forester into the culvert by accident two days ago....great car, I just drove out. What a wonderful car.

The joys of living on the Tundra.

cyclelops 12-21-2009 03:31 PM

How is this...

Tingle Bells, Tingle bells,
Tingle all the way,
How much fun it is to walk
in fur lined Crocs all day.

I tried to do Handel's Messiah, but that was too complex.:p

I bought a Toro electric broom/shovel a few years ago like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...PMBMB671WQ4YQ8. What I didn't like was that it had a one-hand handle sort of like a weed wacker and found that it was hard on my wrist. But this one looks like more of a lawn mower type of handle that might be a better ergonomic design: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...PMBMB671WQ4YQ8

cyclelops 12-21-2009 04:26 PM

Oh how I wish we could use a snow broom.

Nope we had to pay an arm and a leg for some huge honkin' self propelled avalanche remover. Does our 150 foot driveway in 15 minutes. That still did not keep me from driving into the culvert. Nor the plow from hitting our mailbox, twice. We are putting a huge bulls eye target on it, so the plow guy gets our point.

The self propelled snow dragon was a good purchase as hubby just found out he has clogged arteries. He would have been out shoveling our last deluge of a foot.

echoes long ago 12-21-2009 05:43 PM

cyclelops you are one of the few people i ever see or hear mention that standing/walking on broken bone pain that i have. Yet our causes are very different.

Yesterday i was feeling that big toe being squeezed by pliers type of pain.
Today while i was putting on my socks i noticed that my big toe nail was black and the rest of the toe is bruised a beautiful purplish color, so apparantly i broke a toe for at least the 6th time in the last few years. I have no idea how, hit it? dropped something on it? I dont know. The joys of dead numb feet. I go to the pcp tomorrow to get a referral and cant get ortho appointment till monday....not that they can do anything for it, just to make sure it isnt something worse.

cyclelops 12-21-2009 06:03 PM

I once rolled over both of my big toes trying to move an exercise bike.

Both toenails turned black. I had no pain. At that point, I had no clue that I had neuropathy. I thought I had 'compartment syndrome' because the front of my tibial area felt like something was tightening on them. Like tight socks up to the knee.

I also have a bone pain sensation.

I do not have burning. I used to have some on the soles of my feet.

I ran on a fractured tibia for months, not knowing it was a bad stress fracture until it bled thru to the skin.

The docs didn't think of neuropathy either and casted me and I went nuts from the pain of the cast and had to have it cut off.

Still no one thought neuropathy.

Not until it was autonomic did any one thing neuropathy, and it was a cardiologist who referred me to a neuro.

I dont think the cause is what dictates the symptoms. I don't feel an autoimmune disease dictates how things 'feel'.

I think every one has a unique nervous system and relationship with pain.

echoes long ago 12-21-2009 07:10 PM

when i was being tested for charcot foot having to wear a cast if i had it was one of the things that scared me and i dont really scare too easily. I just could not imagine having to wear a cast on my foot. I would go out of my mind. The last time i broke my ankle they told me i was lucky by a fraction of an inch at not having to have a hard cast. I was thinking to myself, no way.

cyclelops 12-21-2009 07:26 PM

I had no idea I would react like that to a cast. I also had no idea I had neuropathy.

I could never wear a cast now, and they had to remove the cast back then, after 2 days. That was in 7 years ago, so I must have had pretty bad neuropathy back then.

JoshuaY46012 12-21-2009 09:21 PM

Tingle Bells, haha, I LOVE IT!

I do have DEEP bone pain, like a dull stab!

echoes long ago 12-22-2009 12:59 AM

Josh the broken bone pain im talking about is when i stand or walk it feels like the bones in my feet are broken and im standing on them.

nide44 12-22-2009 10:00 AM

My deep bone pain feels 'bruised' as if it had something dropped on,
or been stepped on, but not broken. Almost, but not quite.
Today I feel it just below the knees on the front of my legs
(upper-shins?) and I'm walking very gingerly.
This winter, snowy, weather also makes my soles burn,
and my toe bones ache, too.
