Who Is Lady Gaga??

Why is my usually sensible 39 yr old DD, married with five Kids, running off for a mini vacation, to visit a friend in Atlanta, for Two days? To see Lady Gaga's live show.

I know I live in my own little world now and the entertainment world is not my forte, but, who is this seedy looking and sounding woman? And why has she kidnapped my Daughter? :D

Blessings2You 12-28-2009 06:23 PM

There's no accounting for taste.

She is a strange one. First time I saw her it scared me!

I see her dressing style criticized all the time by those who care about fashion.
But I couldn't pick her out of a line-up if I had to.

LOL, Chamar... Since my DD was going to see her live in Atlanta, I watched some of her Atlanta taped performance. She's deffinately a character....and just a little dirty minded.

Bannet 01-04-2010 09:18 PM

she is a little freaky that is for sure and of course very dramatic

ewizabeth 01-04-2010 09:36 PM

She's a Madonna wannabe but not as much talent.

Jaime_S 01-05-2010 11:01 PM

Here in Aus, they seem to compare Lady Gaga with Pink, as well as Madonna, but I would rather see Pink, although I'm not a big fan... as for Lady Gaga...I can get by without her! lol
:o

Pink? Yes I like Pink.......

I like her music as long as I don't have to listen to the naughty bits.

Well...bump (heheheh)

I just have to bump up this thread!

I was cruising the net yesterday and ran across the Video Music Awards. Another forum I was viewing was discussing these and gave links. So I looked at 2 of hers. She won a boatload of awards for 2 videos. The first is Bad Romance which has 273 MILLION views on YouTube! The second was a raunchy video, but the music was good...a collaboration with Beyonce, called Telephone. Won an award with this one too. This was pretty good, but I don't recommend the video for most main stream types of people...it was pretty offensive to me. But the music was good!

So I am going to spring for her new album The Fame Monster that has both of these songs on it. The music is "dance, club" type, and very invigorating. I like bouncy stuff to do housework to, and exercise to. Amazon lets you preview and sample, so you see if the whole CD is consistent, etc. I was just going to pay .99ea and download the two songs, but the whole CD seems worth the money.

And hubby and I are sort of laughing at each other...since we were "avoiding" Lady GaGa as some sort of flash in the pan type. I do believe she is better than Madonna overall! Just my opinion. (I never cared for Madonna except for 2 or 3 of her songs with David Foster as producer).

Kitty 09-23-2010 09:03 AM

I must be getting old(er).......the only song I half-way liked of hers was Papparazzi. I have no idea which songs are "top 40" anymore. I listen to the 70's and my set playlist on iTunes which is a mix of just about everything. Our cable has music channels and you can choose from oldies, 70's, 80's, country, soft rock, etc. I usually listen to the 70's.

Vowel Lady 09-23-2010 10:33 AM

:)She probably doesn't have to worry about anyone copying her exact style.

I have to say...Mrs. D....you REALLY got my attention with your research and decision to purchase!

And I too am behind a few decades :o....this could REALLY push me forward.

Thank you very much! You are the research QUEEN!:)

Becca44 09-23-2010 08:17 PM

Fun thread! I love that SallyC didn't know who she was (which would probably greatly b-o-t-h-e-r Mz. Gaga). And Mrs. D???? You are full of surprises. :)
I think Gaga's pretty talented. She won me over (a little) when she mentioned in Vanity Fair that one of her influences was Klaus Nomi... He was SO ahead of his time (and perhaps on the wrong planet altogether to boot).

Anyway, I appreciate her music. Definitely I could do without the gimmicky clothes (without them she'd be indistinguishable from any other nice Italian girl in NYC) but she is savvy enough to know she's got to stand out. I think she's the love child of Elton John and Liza Minnelli. ;)

mrsD 09-24-2010 03:53 AM

heheheheh...

You know I looked around some more... and found the controversy about her "meat" dress that she wore to the VMA awards where Cher was hosting. The video of Cher reacting was very funny!

But the controversy about the dress is huge! And guess what?
Back in 1991 there was an artist in Canada who exhibited a meat dress as well!
http://www.snopes.com/politics/arts/meatdress.asp

So nothing new there!

In fact the dress will become "jerky" according to Huffington Post!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/0..._n_737269.html

I do like GaGa's music.... the videos, well, they are a little "too much" for me. I won't be playing it as much as some other things I like, Hayley Westenra and Josh for example. But for a jivey lift she does have a good beat.

Patti_Christmas 03-04-2011 09:31 AM

Ugh.... Lady Gaga....... This "entertainer" is something else. I heard on a news station a few days ago while waiting to see the doctor that she was being thought of as "Madonna with diarrhea". To me, this totally defines her. I cannot believe the hype she is receiving and how so many parents are encouraging their young impressionable kids to support her....

Lady Gaga - definitely a Madonna with diarrhea.....
