More about the weather.....

:D I've shoveled the walk twice and you'd never know it....filled the bird feeders twice and am making toast for them as we "speak". Mr.Alffe called me from the toll road and said it was treacherous driving and I shouldn't even think about it and did I need any supplies cause he thinks we'll be in for several days.

It is absolutely beautiful out there...and I'm drinking from my saucer...

How's by you?????

Abbie 01-07-2010 12:51 PM

Snow has let up and is now a light snowfall... we are still under a winter storm warning until tonight as the storm appears to be wrapping around and coming back at us from the northwest.

We have about 6 inches of snow... it began falling here sometime after 2 o'clock this morning.

Please stay safe.... I saw it took an acquaintance of mine 80 minutes to travel about 25 miles this morning...

Stay warm...
Abbie

Well I am just purely an idiot as I drove in to work today after shoveling out my car. Withe the whiteouts, couldn't see where I was going except for the telephone poles along the road and ran right into a drift across the road. LOL! Thankfully I was going REALLY slow..

And nobody is here in the office but me, for good grief. Stay home Ms. Alffe! Lots of wind and snow!

Cancellations

I canceled my Hospice visit for tomorrow. I feel bad about it but I have a little Saturn and only those with 4-wheel drive vehicles should be out. They aren't talking about when the snow will stop.

FeelinGoofy 01-07-2010 03:58 PM

You guys PLEASE stay in.... I dont want you to experience what we did on Christmas Eve..... being stuck on the highway is no fun.

Burntmarshmallow 01-07-2010 04:24 PM

Yes stay safe, stay home unless it is a dire need you have to go driving.

And for Florida it too is very cold and they say we are to get sleet and maybe snow flurries... which I know is nothing to all of yous.. but us Floridians ..we are not used to it . lots of kids dont even have the right kind of coat and some schools have no heat... so we too are having our share of this horrible winter weather.
I grew up in the north and snow but after 25 yrs here .. I am NOT ready for it being so cold for so long... and snow flurries to boot. that never happens!!!
Warm and safe is how I want my family here to be.!!

My fellow Iowans...do not leave your homes! Open roads are 100% whiteout and it's FREEZING out there! :D

FeelinGoofy 01-07-2010 10:37 PM

and no more wading in the thigh high snow doody!! LOL {{{HUGS}}}

Florida

I heard from a Florida friend yesterday and she was in shock - actually had to scrape her windshield before she went to work yesterday!

Alffe 01-08-2010 09:57 AM

Lots of tracks in the snow...can't tell if the deer are back..sending Mr.Alffe out to look at them. *grin

Having to scrape your windshield while living in Florida would be a shock!

I cannot believe the weatherman...lake effect snow will bring 6 to 8 more inches tonight and tomorrow and by Wed. it will be 40!!! ??? :o :p

Hugs to the room! I live in the "deep South" when below freezing temperatures are rare and snow a delight!

Ack!! The pipes on the north side of the house (built in 1868) have frozen, and I'm trying to figure out how to thaw them before they burst! A few years ago, I used my hair dryer to thaw out the pipes (in the renovated bathroom) but that was before the renovation was completed and the walls formed up with the sheet-rock. Yikes! Could we at least have a little of the pretty snow?!

Thank goodness for the warm-bodied little Westies--need no heating blanket with those two snuggled up against me under the covers!

no fireplace

i have some oak firewood cut from hurricane ike, but no fireplace. a friend cameover to get some and had to break ice off of the wheelbarrow to load his truck. we gulf coast people are not used to this.

We did not get the predicted additional 6-8 inches so we "just" have two feet...makes me so happy. *grin And they are still saying it will be 40 on Wednesday *whisper..the day we leave for our cruise. :grouphug:

Alffe 01-09-2010 06:59 PM

Hearing about the bitter weather in England I have to wonder about DMACK and hope he is warm and safe. I know waves is ok cause I've "seen" her here. *grin  Also hoping reyn got her pipes thawed.

waves 01-09-2010 09:08 PM

warm thoughts

I too hope David is ok.

my heart goes out to all of you who are in bitter cold... or even in unusually-cold-for-where-you-live weather.

here it's cold enough to clearly be identifiable as "winter" but we're doing ok... no major issues. a major snowstorm in December that brought an unexpected snow caused major problems for a few days but things are fine now. all that's left are some dingy mounds of packed snow/slush here there and everywhere from when they "cleaned up." lol.

in fact, they have been predicting snow for the past week, but none to be seen.... maybe because they thought to salt the roads this time they scared the storms away? :p

tell ya what i wouldn't mind seeing some SUN ... it's been overcast for days now... blaaaaaaaaaahhhhh. i keep the lights on all day for the poor plants!

but overall i'm pretty comfy. i've got it good, weather-wise, really. that and i don't have to go out much. :D

~ waves ~ sending warm thoughts to all you people going "brrrrrr"

barbo 01-14-2010 09:56 AM

More

The snow has been melting because the temperature has been above freezing for several days. It's supposed to be like this through the end of January, then when February comes in we will get a blast of winter again. Looking forward to see the grass again but we had two feet of snow in January and it will take some time to melt all of it.

FeelinGoofy 01-27-2010 06:37 PM

ok waves..... i'm assuming the warm thought have stopped  we are suppose to get 1/2 inch of ice covered with 2 inches of sleet, covered with 2-4 inches of snow tomorrow lOLOL...... i bought a bunch of non perishable food today because its almost a guarenteed deal that we'll lose power LOL

Alffe 01-28-2010 03:28 PM

Sooooo grateful that the furnace repairman was able to fix the problem this morning....Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Not a good time to have problems. Fighting a cold and sore throat....tonights' forcecast is for sub zero temps. :grouphug:

FeelinGoofy 01-28-2010 08:13 PM

we have ice..... a BUNCH of ice lOL its so beautiful but wow.....i went in to work at 8:00 and just got home a bit ago... everybody is calling in so i stayed longer to help out.... so far we still have electricity but not everybody is as lucky as us... our wires are underground.... there are several who are staying the night at work because they are without power.... guess i'll go back tomorrow LOL since i live like 3 miles from work lOl
I'm glad you got your furnace fixed Alffe.... this is not a good time for things like that to stop working...

Alffe 01-29-2010 09:12 AM

I just watched the Nat'l weather..be careful out there Goofy!!!

Brokenfriend 01-29-2010 07:46 PM

We are suppose to get 6",to 12" of powdered snow. It's suppose to go down to 12 degrees tomorrow night. I'm glade that it's not suppose to be a Ice storm. BF:hug::hug::hug:

FeelinGoofy 01-29-2010 08:44 PM

Its a mess out there.... we got about 6 inches of snow on top of the ice and sleet today so driving home was much easier than driving to work this morning LOL My daughter is not happy with me at this very moment as i'm not letting her go "hang out" with her friends tonight....
my motherly instincts say 17 year olds have no business driving on icy roads
