Poor Haiti. They are so poor.
|
Sheesh...they need this like a hole in the head...I'll be watching the news to see what's up...thanks for the info...
|
I am following it on CNN
was only 6 miles underground so they say the effects far more devastating tsunami warning is up in the Carribean the people of Haiti have so little and the infrastructure so poor that this is catastrophic :( |
Why do these horrible things always seem to happen to the poorest most ill prepared people.:(
Thanks, Ill be praying. |
I was watching the early news about this this morning. As I lay there all cuddled up in my warm bed....with dry clothes on....not hungry or thirsty or cold. Made me feel very blessed and sort of guilty at the same time. Those poor people. Sally's right. It does seem like things like this happen to those who can least afford the circumstances.

They are estimating that thousands are dead!!:( Many will die, trapped and unable to get free.:(
|
I just heard 100K are likely dead:(
Was listening to a phone interview on local news channel. A dad had talked to his DD who was 10 miles from Port Au Prince...she's safe, but wants to get home...however, with the UN peacekeepers' numbers being decimated, there's no security to get through Port Au Prince, which is very dangerous. They are calling on the State Dept. to try to airlift American survivors. The dad sounded so worried...said his DD told him of things she saw that not many people would ever see...the horror. the dead and dying... pray for Haitians... |
I dont think we will ever know the extent of the loss of life:(
apparently there have been no census, and record keeping is abysmal so no one really knows how many people were actually in the area I was watching Anderson Cooper live last night and the heartbreak magnifies when there is mass panic in the dark as huddled people hear rumors of tsunami flooding....it seems the ploy is that in the panic to run, they leave their meager possessions for the thieves who started the panic to nab:mad: my prayers are lifted continuously for the people there and their loved ones here and elsewhere who are trying to connect with them. the unbelievable devastation and human suffering has impacted me very intensely. |

Me, too, Chemar. There was a man locally here who was on the phone with the news who doesn't know if his mother, sister and niece are alive. He cried while on the phone and that just broke my heart. Everytime the news covers the loss it just touches my heart and I wish so badly that there was something I could do to help. I pray alot but I wish there was more. |
Did you see that sweet little girl, this morning, they found and they can't get her leg free. Poor thing was crying in pain.
Did anyone see if they got her out? |
I didn't see that particular story but I did see a man who was trapped under a collapsed building who was begging for help. Very disturbing video. I realize that not everyone has the ability to help......but wouldn't putting the camera down and offering to do something.....anything.....even just holding the guys hand.....be better than trying to get the best story?

Kroger and Publix are offering to round up your grocery bill and all the proceeds will go to The Red Cross. I plan to do that plus whatever I save in coupons will be donated. It's not much but it's all I can do.

I watched the rescue of a young boy.....his mother and brother were injured but alive and lying in the back of a truck. His mother didn't know if her son was alive but they captured the reunion on video. It was so touching.
Just watching this news coverage everyday makes me realize how blessed and fortunate I am. Regardless of the health challenges I face I am so very, very blessed. I wish there was more I could do to help these people. They are in such dire need of the most basic things....food, water, clothing, medical care. What we have here may not be perfect but for most of us all of those things are attainable....and available. I pray for those people in Haiti every day. :smileypray: |

Me too, Kelly.....I just don't understand how God can let this suffering go on..:( |
There are so many dead, so many without shelter, food, water...they will need donations for some time to come.
I saw on NBC Nightly News tonight a segment where they showed a woman being rescued from the rubble. What was the first thing she did when she was pulled out? She sang a hymm...these types of reports rips the veil that we put before our eyes down and we see the reality of what is truly important in life...and that every moment is a precious gift...a precious gift. In time, after we witness a tragedy like this, we allow the veil to cover our eyes once again, and we again obsess about Brangelina, Conan and Leno, our middle-age spread, etc. If we could only begin our day by lifting the veil...and reminding ourselves of that preciousness...that gift that our life is... So, in conclusion...Haiti will need our donations for months to come...we need to keep them uppermost in our minds and hearts as our country helps them rebuild... |
A powerful aftershock happened last night. How much more do these poor people have to endure?? I just cannot wrap my mind around it. :(
|
my emotions have been in a real knot since this earthquake occurred.
the extent of the death, devastation and human suffering is just so intense that it is impossible for anyone not there to truly comprehend. my prayers remain lifted for the Haitian people and the valiant medical/rescue/relief teams working there, and for the safety of the media members who are covering this. I imagine that all this is going to leave a lasting impression on them. Many have covered disasters before yet they all seem to say they have never witnessed anything quite like this horror. |
