Pain Clinic & Neck
 

I will start with the second part first. 5 years idiopathic PN in the feet. Hasn't moved beyond the toes...ebb and flow with pain. I'm scheduled for a pain clinic in around a month. I have put that appointment off for over a year. My wife thinks it will be helpful. I don't. Let's see...will they take me off my oxy, tramadol and Lyrica? Will they tell me that it is pill overdose and I should get into my Zen...maybe do a little chanting. Group hugs? Meditate. A full-body electrical stimulator? Sheeesh!
Anyway, the rotten neck, the one with some arthritis in it, has finally decided to joint my feet with pain. Woke up with tingling in my fingers. It took about 5 hours for that to go away. I do sleep with my arm under my head. My neck aches and, of course, if I tilt it to the left or backwards....I get the classic nerve pain down the arm to the elbow. Honest to God, can I just roter rooter the facet joint crud right out of my body??? :) Oh....hey, how 'bout a time-machine....go back 10 years and feel GOOD...no GREAT!

I just went to see Avatar...little late on the trigger....maybe before we get too old, they can come up with that concept for us...I would not mind being 8' tall, blue with a tail. I thought they were very impressive. If they could transfer my contents, I would do it. Of course, then I would be taller than hubby.

You're going to be OK Jak.....grumpy maybe, but, I know you will be fine. Bring on the roto rooter.

I have been to multiple pain clinics. Some use a combo approach like meds,invasive treatments,mental/physical therapy. Some just push there thing I call it or what they do a lot of like a scs etc. Wait are you seeing an anestesolgist or is this a program? My last pain doc who is an anestesolgist has been the best because he worked with me and did not go along with all the other docs which all made me worse or did nothing. He also did not do his way or the high way. He took my concerns etc into account and was not a money grubber pushing the big treatments. I hope you get someone who works with you to give you relief.

Without spoiling the movie, the plot is predictable, Fern Gully + Dances With Wolves (oh, yes, Kevin looked good in that film, swoon) but, the special effects are what the movie is about. One of my grown kids saw it an an IMAX and said it was unbelievable....she actually said she was brushing off debris. She said it felt like stuff was raining down on her. I saw it at a regular theater, and for me that is enough. I can't take too much motion, and this film is full of motion...and long too. Luckily I had a railing in front of me and could put the old dawgs up to elevate them.

I did not know Sigourney Weaver was in Avatar! Her character is pretty good. It is definitely fantasy, Bob.

Jak, you can ask the pain doc for an avatar, lol. Gosh, the old hip is starting to flare, despite the cortisone.....ugh. I can't believe I feel like this at this age. :( Gotta go plod away on the treadmill lest I freeze into this sitting position.:tongue:

It's Complicated is a great flick if you like romantic comedy. It is a nice twist on it....middle age people and Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alex Baldwin do a good job, as do the actors that play the grown kids....it was really cute...and not predictable at all.

Distraction helps pain. So does humor. It is like pulling teeth at times to get me to settle in to watch a funny movie, but gosh, I feel so much better when I do.

Laughter is good medicine.
Good Sci-Fi & Fantasy makes my PN go away, too.
(if I'm not stuck in too small, cramped seats -
give me these new luxurious multi-plex relax,
tilt-back, plenty of leg room, & cup holder seats).
And a cash bar is something we never had in the movies
when I was a youngster. There's even one 'art' cinema near me, that has a 'Tapas' room entrance in the lobby. Gourmet Dinner, drinks & a movie - in one stop.

When I go to a Broadway show, its a labor of love, to sit in jammed-in seats at $150^ a pop (I pay 1/2 to 1/3 price- on one-day, discount, junkets).
But I simply love a Broadway show, musicals especially,
but a good drama or mystery will have me in another world, too.
Guess I'm an escapist at heart.

Yeah, it is great to leave this world for a while.

They have the good seats at our cinema 12...nice, rocking seats...good for grandma here. It does make you forget your PN. It is good to get out too.

Now, I have to get used to that surround sound tho.....geez, everything shakes and for me right now, after coming off meds, man, I am kinda raw....makes my heart shake! I hope my nervous system settles eventually. There is lots of rumbling in Avatar.

You guys think you have it bad....Try being 6'5" and sit in those cramped seats! Horrible! Bob, if you go to Avatar, you absolutely HAVE to see it in 3D. The movie is predictable, but the specials effects are so incredible that the realism is awesome.

I totally agree with Jak, if you can, see it in 3D. I almost got motion sick in a regular theatre. How about those mountains? I hate heights...got sweaty palms. And all the rumbling...oh my.

6'5"?? Jak, how do you fit in a plane? It is too bad the femur doesn't have an extra joint. Kinda like a flamingo, you could fold up. :D I can barely stand it in a plane!

I am 5'3" and can't reach up without getting a migraine....there is no justice in the world.:mad:

Cyclops I try to not get an edge seat because the speakers are right there. If you go more in the middle. I try to go when it is empty cause I don't do well with crowds.
I heard the 3d is great. I saw under the sea I think it is called at imax. It was amazing.
Jak my dad is the same. He has to lean his car seat back to not hit his head.
Its Complicated was cute. So was Up in the Air.

I get overexcited when I go to the movies. Hence I need an aisle seat...potty break.:o I do this when I fly too. I pee so much before I even get on the plane, I end up with some sky marshall next to me, despite the fact that I am a blonde grandma.

Once I got into it with the security people who told me I had a scissors in my carry on....

'Mam, you have a scissors in your carry on."
"No, impossible, I went thru everything"
Yes, mam it is in there, do you want us to just throw it out'
"Well, sure, but it is NOT in there. I went thru everything just like you guys advised, and I am not stupid enough to have a scissors in there."

And around and around it went....until they pulled out the scissors and showed me.

I had no idea that the grooming kit I bought, had a secret pocket and in there, was, a sharp, pokey scissors.:o

So, I found my spot in the terminal to wait, and then went to pee.:p

Flying from USA to Ireland is a lonng flight!
Making connections to NY is even longer.
Try flying coach for 7 to 8 hrs.
That's a while, to be a sardine in a flying can.
I felt like a pretzel by the end of the flight,
not to mention PN flares.

It took me 5 hours to get home from Boston one time!! They flew us half way over Canada. What is with that? Non-stop flight with a arial tour of the arctic, all the snow, ice and water you care to see.

I loathe sitting there with my knees up to my ears, and I am short. Way more intimacy than I care for.

It is so bad you can turn the pages of Sky Mall with your feet.

Once I almost knocked myself out on the bulkhead. I still have a dent! And I am puny. It is a sardine can. I worry when I go to the bathroom that I will accidently flush myself down.

I would rather drive these days, if possible.

See how deregulating industries makes everything all shiny and competitive and how we consumers benefit by getting better products for lower prices and...oh...um...never mind.

I suppose we could travel first class, like, maybe, twice per lifetime.

I am trying to cheer Jak up because of his appt. with the Pain Clinic. Pain Clinic appts. can get a person very riled up. Every one has a cure. Maybe a trip to Katmandu would do as much good....or Timbucktoo. A hike to base camp at Everest. Only problem is one has to master the accordian fold to fit in a plane for that long....not to mention, the daunting encounter with security. (Please remove your shoes, place all electronics in the bin. No liquids except in 3 oz. containers, blah, blah, blah.) I have found if I get nervous enough about survival, I forget I am sick....oxymoronic, I know.

A bit of creative writing. I am trying to picture a 6'5" guy in the Lotus position chanting....Om mani padme hum.....

I ADORED avatar, it was great! Best movie I had seen for a long time.

The following week I had the misfortune to do and see The Lovely Bones. If you haven't seen it, please don't, it was totally traumatising and we are all still trying to get over it. A 14 year old getting murdered in the worst possible way, and it's all downhill from there.

I think that movie should have a hazardous to the health warning on it .....
