Storm of 2010

One view out the door to my new apartment. We've gotten about 8 inches now of snow and are expecting about 4 to 6 inches more.

Beth,

That area is my yard. There is a sidewalk between the area in the fence and some more earth against my building. I have corn stalks against my building. I hope to plant some flowers where the corn stalks are now.

Barbara

Brokenfriend 01-30-2010 03:32 PM

Gosh! I see that. I live west of you. We have about 13" of snow, and it's about 3:30 PM. It's not suppose to stop until 11 PM. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Brokenfriend 01-30-2010 07:32 PM

The snow stoped my car,but I was able to rock it out onto a plowed out area. If I need to drive some where,I can now. I don't plan on driving anywhere tonight. It's around 7:30 PM,and it's 18 degrees.

That is the second whopper snow storm that we've had this winter season. We may have a third one in February,or March. BF:hug::hug::hug:

befuddled2 01-30-2010 09:00 PM

BF,

I am glad you can drive out now if you want to. I will not be drving for days as I am scared to drive in it. The secondary road by me will be bad for some time and it takes me days to clear off my car.

barbara

Brokenfriend 01-31-2010 12:19 AM

I know what you mean. The secondary roads out here are pretty bad right now. I dislike the roads that stop on a hill, especially in this kind of weather.

It's about 12:16 AM right now,and it has started snowing again. They have predicted that it will stop at about 2 AM. BF :hug::hug:

befuddled2 01-31-2010 12:42 AM

BF,

Gosh, this is the worst storm we've had in lots and lots of years. I hope that I'll get to get out sooner than I will be able to drive.

barbara

I am glad that you are all moved in and safe in your new home barbara!

Mari 01-31-2010 02:42 AM

Dear Barbara and Steve,

We've been hearing about the snow in the news here.
Please stay safe and stay warm.

Barbara --> thanks for the picture of your outside. It's beautiful but also inspiring.

M.

befuddled2 01-31-2010 05:29 PM

Thank you Beth and Mari. A couple of my neighbors shoveled my walkway today and someone cleaned off my car today. I am liking it here already.

barbara

bizi 01-31-2010 11:23 PM

yes that was very neighborly of them!
do you know who did that and are you going
to bake them brownies?

Brokenfriend 01-31-2010 11:53 PM

My power went out for hours today, but I had telephone service. I disconnected the cordless phone, and connected a old phone with a cord, and no battery so I could make a call.

I had light, radio, and a advanced Catalytic Combustion Coleman Portable propane heater that was made to be able to be used indoors. This was my first attempt to use that heater today, and it worked. I've had it in storage for about 6,or 7 years. I had eight little cylinders of propane, and only used 1/2 of one.

The power is still on,thank goodness. BF:hug::hug::hug: PS I had my carbon monoxide detector behind my head.

bizi 02-01-2010 12:27 AM

Dear Steve,

That's good the power is back on.
Maybe the snow will be calmer for the rest of the winter.

M.

befuddled2 02-01-2010 02:11 PM

Beth, I don't know who cleaned off my car but will try to find out so I can do something nice for them.

Steve, we are expecting some more wintery weather tomorrow and this weekend. How about you? Some one got stuck outside in my parking lot this morning as it is still bad outside. I hope I don't lose my current tomorrow when we get the sleet. I'm not prepared if we do. I should get some kind of propane heater myself for such occasions. I have a grill.

barbara

Dmom3005 02-01-2010 04:56 PM

you both be careful and take care.

I bought this propane heater at Target years ago. It's spacifically made to be used on the inside of a house. It has fans to ventilate the heat around the area. The fan runs on two size D batteries.

Yes. We are suppose to get a wintery mix of snow, and rain tomorrow. We are suppose to get snow this weekend to. I wonder how our forefathers lived through it. I guess they made use of fire places, and burned alot of wood.

If you buy a propane heater, make sure it's a heater that is designed to be used inside. Also make sure that you have a carbon monoxide detector. BF :hug::hug:

Thank you Bizi. I've thought alot about the subject. These Virginia Ice storms are horrible.

Thank you for the compliment. BF:hug::hug::hug:

befuddled2 02-02-2010 11:51 AM

BF, thank you for the tip on heaters.

I have not been anywhere since Friday as I do not know how to drive on this ice. I am going to have to get out before Friday to get some more food and drink though. I hear this weekend's storm will be as bad as the last one.

Barbara

Dmom3005 02-02-2010 02:45 PM

Barb

When you get out please be careful. I can totally understand not wanting
to without knowing how to drive in it.

You get enough for a good amount of time though okay.

Donna:hug:

befuddled2 02-02-2010 07:46 PM

Thank you Donna. I did get out today but only to the bar down the street from me. I thought that I would go grocery shopping tomorrow to not over do things. I've got a date this weekend to go out to dinner with a guy who has a 4 wheel drive.

barbara

befuddled2 02-02-2010 09:35 PM

I hear we are expecting a snow storm worse this Friday than the last one.

barbara

Brokenfriend 02-02-2010 10:11 PM

I've been on the Noaa website, and they don't know what it's going to do yet. The weather that is suppose to hit us,in Virginia,on Friday is coming up from Mexico. They are calling for rain, and snow. We will know more about the storm tomorrow, and the next day.

It's Groundhog day. The groundhogs around here are still hybernating, and no where to be found. LOL:icon_lol:

Mari 02-03-2010 03:00 AM

Dear Barbara and Steve,
The snow is beautiful in the pictures -- and from far distance.
I hope that you both continue to fare well in the weather.

M.

Dmom3005 02-03-2010 07:45 PM

I believe last week that snow was to come here.

No thank you.

Donna

Brokenfriend 02-03-2010 07:56 PM

They are calling for around 12" of snow, and rain Friday, and Saturday in this part of Virginia, close to the mountains. This kind of wet snow can cause more power outages, then the powered snow that we had in December, and last week. Wet snow accumulates on tree limbs, and power lines.

Here it comes again. BF:plain::hug:

befuddled2 02-04-2010 11:16 AM

BF,

I am in central Virginia so I may not get the wet snow as bad as you will in the mountains. I certaintly hope that both you and I both will not lose our current.

I went grocery shopping today to stock up for this weekend. The store did not have any chicken thighs though which is highly unusual. I have plenty of ground beef though and some pot pies and other stuff easy to fix.

I need to go to the laundry mat bad but there is still some ice out there and I don't want to fool with a heavy laundry basket. Most of every thing is clear by now so I may go later and wash clothes.

barbara

Mari 02-04-2010 01:00 PM

Dear Steve,
That wet snow is messy and tricky.

Dear Barbara,
That's good that you can stay home inside.

Mari

Dmom3005 02-04-2010 01:22 PM

You both stay safe. And be careful. Glad you have food.

Everyone else stay safe too.

Donna

Oh me. They are saying that we are going to have 20'',to 28'' inches of snow starting later this morning through Saturday night. We still have snow on the ground from last weekend. This should be interesting. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Brokenfriend 02-05-2010 02:12 AM

They are saying that a Nor'easter is forming, and the upper Jet stream, and the lower jet stream are coming together off the North Carolina, and Virginia coast. They said that the rain way up in the atmosphere,is going to fall rapidly down, and is going to turn into snow.:eek::eek::hug::hug::hug:

Mari 02-05-2010 02:12 AM

Dear Friend,

Whoa! That's a lot of snow to add to what you already have.
Big snow! http://bestsmileys.com/surprised/4.gif

Take care of yourself.

M.

Brokenfriend 02-05-2010 02:20 AM

Thank you Mari. They are calling for more snow on monday,or Tuesday. I have never seen these type of snow storms in one year. BF:hug::hug::hug:

befuddled2 02-05-2010 09:36 AM

BF,

I have never seen all this bad weather before in Virginia either. It has started to snow already here but not heavy yet. We'll be getting sleet at some point then more snow.

I am so sick of all this bad weather. I just got my clothes washed yesterday after getting groceries. I would love to be able to go out and do something enjoyable for a change.
