Wii Fit Plus

A few weeks ago my hubby ordered me a Wii Fit Plus and it arrived today and I love it so far. Some of the exercises are ones that I do in PT, and it's fun!! If any of you get the opportunity to get a Wii of any kind it will benefit you so much. Even though it hurts, it gets those muscles moving and you don't realize that it is so beneficial, so bye, bye boring PT trainer, Hello Wii Fit Plus!!:)

One of the neatest fit games I found today was the one where you sit on the fit board and balance yourself to look at a candle....I have always had a hard time with balance because I also have cerebral palsy, but this Wii Fit Plus has TONS of balancing exercises and they can be so gentle and easy and I don't have my therapist griping in my ear or any outside noises....It's also going to save us a ton of money because my insurance only pays for so many PT sessions in a year. We have basically saved $750 for the year 2010 by buying this....I feel like there is a little light at the end of my tunnel!!!

I got a Wii at Christmas - it came bundled with the basic sports package, which is pretty gentle. A couple of weeks ago, my daughter brought over her Fit+ game and balance board so I could try it, and I agree that it is great.

This has the advantage (over other video-type games) of being able to get toned-down to whatever level you are able. So for those of us who have limitations, there is still plenty to do and things to accomplish. I am going to go out and invest in my own.

Hats off to Nintendo for recognizing that we are not all 17-year-old skateboarders anymore. :D

I think it should be endorsed by a lot of pain disorder groups, even though I still have the pain it is giving me the motivation to at least TRY the games and exercises. Too bad health insurance doesn't pay for it....it should!

I love the exercises when I'm having a good day. RSD is in my right arm/hand and is stage 1 so I put my icepacks on and can do a few things: soccer, penguins, lunge. I can't do it very long before my arm gets absolutely huge, dark and incredibly hot. It messes me up pretty badly for most of the day, even when I keep my arm elevated on the back of a chair with lots of pillows. So I don't do it anywhere near as much as I'd like to.

Go Wii

Absolutely great, my son (21) bought one about a month ago. He was so excited, he bought three or four games and the wii fit. He set me up on a program that I can actually do, and on days when I can't use my legs he set it up for upper body work out. I love it. The best part is the bonding, I really miss doing things with my kids, and we have had so much fun with this system, of course he laughs at me alot, when the screen tells me I am going too slow, or try not to hobble when I am walking. God Bless my son for being so thoughtful, and the wii for family bonding and great exercise.

Wishing you all good times and better health

This is great to know. I have the WII fit, but I'm going to also get the Wii FIt Plus. It sounds great. Thank you so much for this great idea.

Mary, how are you doing?

I'm doing great. Still just a little tender from surgery..my poor back doesn't know why we hate it so much. lol THe pump is wonderful. I'm looking forward to getting my next increase in diluidad. All the snow we've had is making me behave myself. My family doesn't want me to move out of the bed. they aren't taking any chances, but still, they are driving me crazy...:deadhorse: I wish I had known about this long ago. I'm getting the meds, but they are going where they are needed instead of going thru my body and having an effect on all my other organs. My brain is getting back to normal.

Hugs

I totally credit the fact that I rarely use my crutches now to my Wii.

I don't have Wii Fit Plus yet, but I have Wii Fit and Wii Active, as well as a nightmare Biggest Loser one ;) that is waaaay beyond my level yet!

The Wii Active has been amazing for me. Just 6 months ago I was on my crutches full time and limping with every step, now I don't limp anymore. I have biceps too! :D

The fact that you can tailor your exercises to your abilities is the most important thing. I use the resisitance band with Wii Active, and the steps for the balance board on Wii Fit's step aerobics, and they make a huge difference.

If I don't exercise, my muscles in my arm and leg deteriorate really quickly. My shoulder joint is totally out of position (too far forwards and sideways so my front shoulder muscles are loose and my back ones are constantly stretched) so the slightest thing makes me unable to use my shoulder, but since using the Wii I haven't had my shoulder taped in about 9 months! :D

I have preset exercise routines in my wii active- one for cardio, one for upper body, one for lower body and one mixed one. Normally I do upper one day, lower the other, so I'm not doing too much at once. When I start a routine up, I can also "untick" any exercises in the list that I don't think I can do that day, and as you go through the list, you can skip exercises without any dramas.

For me, my Wii is freedom. If I were to go for a walk outside, I wouldn't know how far I can go because if I go too far, I won't be able to get home. With the Wii, that's not a worry because I can stop whenever I like and it charts everything- distance, calories, strength etc.

If my leg is bad and I can't put much weight on it, I sit on the lounge and do my arm exercises, such as hitting baseballs, cardio boxing, bicep curls etc. With a gym, it's a huge effort to get there and do it, and you'd want to be there for a while if you did finally get there, but with the wii, you can do a few minutes on it then stop for an hour, then do a few minutes more etc etc. It's totally up to you and it's there whenever you want to use it.

Hmmm, maybe I'm sounding like I'm PAID to say all this, lol

What my point is, is that after years of different physios and programs, nothing comes close to giving me the strength, movement, freedom, lower pain levels and independance that my Wii gives me. If any of you haven't got one yet, then get one! I reckon it's a must for all RSDers!! :D
