Leg thread #2

Hey everyone! I figured I would start the second thread now, I made an update page on my website and hope you like it, it's condensed all the pics and videos posted from the previous thread and I will update here so we can let the other longer thread drop off the main page. I really appreciate your encouragement and support everyone! :grouphug:

Thanks befuddle2 and you're right Beth, baby steps. That's the only way to go. :) thanks for reminding me of what I need to do, not go into this expecting too much, but to be realistic and not be hard on myself for needing to take my time building up tolerance to walking again. :grouphug:

bizi 02-14-2010 05:33 PM

I believe in you pammy!:)
You can do anything you set your mind to!

i see congratulations are in order!

so... i read over your page... and... OMG... you've got the leg! that is so cool - i'm very happy for you Pam! :) and, i agree with Beth, you'll probably be able to do more than you think, with time. why set limits? i'm thinking... i wonder, if what you are thinking of as limits at the moment, you could instead think of as goals/milestones instead?

anyway i'm rooting for you too. and, congratulations!

(((hugs)))

Thanks waves!   It's so good to see you! Thanks for checking out my new page, More will be added to it over the next two weeks, I am so happy! Things are finally about to pay off big time! :D Good advice from both of you, to think of things in terms of milestones and goals, instead of placing limitations on myself this early in the game. :D

Thanks for the link with your pictures.
You are doing great. :)

I love the technology available to you and I love the positive energy you have for this endeavor.

Pamster 02-16-2010 04:40 PM

Thanks Mari! I am really looking forward to tomorrow's appt, but had a setback come up, the prosthetist fell and has hurt his shoulder, so I don't know how well it's going to go tomorrow, wish me luck! My appt has been moved from 9 am to 11:30 am. I hope it goes well. :) NO video though, he is hurt so no way am I asking for him to shoot any footage, it will have to wait til I get the leg home and have Jack shoot some...

Dmom3005 02-16-2010 05:07 PM

Pam

You might see if someone else in the office would shoot the video.

But just as long as you get some good work on it that is what
counts.

Donna

Pamster 02-16-2010 07:05 PM

I shot some video of the new thrift store tank top I got to use on the socket, It's hopefully going to work since it's a HUGE socket, I am going to see ifhis apprentice can shoot some footage or at least a few stills of me wearing it and walking on it. :) We'll see how it goes. Here's the video footage of the tank top:

Dear Pam,
Good luck tomorrow.
Let us know. :) :D :)

Pamster 02-17-2010 06:49 AM

Thanks everyone! Well Jackie isn't taking it too bad so far, mainly because I used to have three legs sitting in my garage and he knew what they were for, only I couldn't walk with any of them, and he would seriously TRY to TRY the big one on!!! OMG it was pretty hysterical! I would tell him, "No honey, that's Mama's leg, not for you." But he'd still try! I fully expect him to go through that with this leg too, only because it will be new to us. I can't wait to see how today goes...But the lil man is definitely onto something being up with me getting a new leg because of the ones I brought home the other guy made in November, and December even if they didn't work as well as I would have liked...He liked them just FINE!! LOL! :D

bizi 02-17-2010 08:44 PM

That is a funny image!
Is Jack supportive of you?
How is he doing with all of this?

Dear Pam I'm glad that you are getting that high tech leg. Way to go!!! BF:hug::hug::hug:

Pamster 02-20-2010 07:36 AM

Thank you all for the encouragement! I am really happy that things are looking up prosthetically speaking. Jackie has some kind of virus or cold, had a fever last night of 102.5 Nearly took him to the ER. Got little sleep last night, and have had migraines for two days in a row. It sucks. :( But I won't let it get me down. :D

befuddled2 02-20-2010 02:48 PM

Pam,

I hope that Jackie feels better soon and that your headaches go away. I've been dehydrated and with that comes a bad headache.

barbara

Mari 02-22-2010 12:13 AM

Dear Pam,

I hope that Jackie is doing better.
Did you get some sleep?
M.

Pamster 02-22-2010 07:07 AM

Thanks barbara! I am sorry you were dehydrated, I hope you're better now. :)

Thanks Mari, Jackie's on antibiotics now but he's still got a fever. I haven't been sleeping too well because I have been getting up to give him tylenol or motrin when the last dose of the evening wears off. He probably won't be back in school for a week with this sickness he's got. I am sure it will be five full school days missed. BUT I am gonna make my appts this week. :)

bizi 02-22-2010 04:25 PM

I am sorry that jackie has been sick.
hope that he recovers quickly!

Pamster 02-22-2010 09:24 PM

Well I had a dr appt today and the dr agreed with me that I have the beginnings of an ulcer so we're adding prilosec to my mix. It should help with the dry heaving I go through lately, been about two months it's happened. I also had an hunch this spot on my cheek is a skin cancer, and doc agreed, it kinda came on suddenly and I noticed it last week so I set up an appt today and he confirmed that it definitely looks like skin cancer. So he's gonna remove it next weds. I am glad he told me he'd remove it quickly, needles in the cheek will hurt like heck I am sure but I am not gonna to let this thing go, it's been about a month it's been there I think. So anyway. :(

Jackie is a mess, hismouth has broken out in big sores, they look like cold sores, and I hope he's getting better, but with this stuff going on he's out of school for awhile. I just hate that he caught this cold sore crap from me. :( He's been up to 101.5 today but we tried to see if he could go without tylenol and it took two hours after the motrin we gave him left his system, so no go for now. :( Poor kid is miserable, his dr called in some special lidocane mouthwash for him so we'll see if it's helping him. In a few days...I am still going to my appt's Weds though. :)

Mari 02-23-2010 03:03 AM

Dear Pam,

I hope that whatever is going on with Jackie settles down soon.

I hope that you are ok too with your face and your stomach and whatever else needs tending.

Wednesday will go well. :)

Pamster 02-25-2010 07:07 AM

Went great except the finalized socket they made didn't cure over the weekend so I was on another test socket, this one? FIT like a glove! So we're there! IN a week IF they can get a socket to cure in the lab I get it next week, if not and they have to send it out, then I get it in two weeks. SO excited! I get to start Physical Therapy after this! :D

Kid has no fever now but he has spots on the back of his throat, we're seeing the doc today after my pdoc appt this morning, so hopefully it will go well and she (kiddo's doc) will rx something stronger beause he shouldn't still have these spots a week later IMO. His mouth is such a mess, now his gums are really hurting him. She's just got to help my baby! If he gets something stronger then maybe he can go back to school next week. I am praying he can because he's sick of being cooped up in the house. And I want some respite from him beyond what I get going out to the store for an hour or to a appt for an hour.

Here is a short video fo me standing with the new leg, it still has a clear socket at this point but not for long! Should be done in a matter of a week I hope:

Looking so good!
do you have any of your femor left?
I forget....
bizi

Pamster 02-25-2010 06:48 PM

I am sorry to say I was right he's definitely got a mouthful of cold sores, and that's what gave him the fever unfortunately. He's not feverish anymore thank heavens, been 98.1 for over two days now, so that's good, but he shouldn't go back until Monday, got a dr note for it too. He's really not eating right though, she said it's to be expected, and that he's gonna have these blisters in his mouth for a little while longer. Poor kid. The good news is he IS better, and he IS eating. :)

I got my new shoe today too! A free nike! They give away one free nike a year to amputees who call in and ask for the One Shoe Bank. Great service they have, I am sure they write it off their taxes too so everybody wins! I called Monday and got mine today by Fed Ex! It's gorgeous too! All leather, and fits perfectly, unlike last year's shoe that fit my big toe....Seriously I could barely get it on my big toe! It was too narrow so I ordered a men's size 7 1/2 this year and it's awesome! Check it out:

I am really hopign they get my socket finished this weekend and call me for another wednesday appt next week, but if I have to wait two weeks, it will be SO worth it! I have about 4-5 inches of femur left, so I am basically a Hip Disrtic Beth, they just left the bone in, it really doesn't do much for me, kinda wish they hadn't left it in, but then I can't discount that I might live to see cloning make us legs from our own fat cells, stranger things have happened in Science Fiction, so why not reality? :D I can dream anyway....

had a great pdoc appt, and things are going well enough. I can't complain. Will definitely update again soon! :D

bizi 02-25-2010 11:23 PM

I am confused pammy, do you have a ball and socket left? Are they fused together? do they move? but no muscles to control it? sorry if this is too personal you can PM me about it.
bizi

Mari 02-26-2010 01:03 AM

Dear Pam,
I like how the prosthetists are working so well with you.

M.

Pamster 02-26-2010 07:35 AM

No Beth, it's not too personal. ;) I do have the hip joint on the left side, but the thing is I broke it in about four or five places in the accident 22 years ago, so it's got some pointiness to it on some areas and it hurts to 'bear weight' on it sing a leg, bu this leg's liner really has helped to minimize that pain! :D I can move it , it's just that the lil ball of flesh I got for the stump doesn't have enough power when I move it to manipulate an above knee prosthesis. The other prosthetist thought so but I really wasn't using the stump to move the leg he made, I was using my hip. :P Don't sweat asking questions Beth, I don't mind talking about it. :D

I am really happy with the new guy's old school mad skills! This new leg is going to be just awesome, I just know it's gonna be hard to build up endurance but I am not going to give up. Won't take failure as an option. :D

bizi 02-26-2010 10:38 AM

thanks kpammy for explaining that...it does sound like it could be painful....
bizi still keeping her fingers crossed for you.
((((HUGS))))

Pamster 02-26-2010 12:44 PM

My pleasure Beth! :D I can't wait to see what happens with the new socket, man I hope its next week! :D

waves 02-26-2010 07:08 PM
