Are there training wheels for adult bikes?

I had some trouble keeping steady and upright on my bicycle last summer, so I was wondering if anyone knows if someone makes small training wheels for the rear wheels of adult bikes...just to keep me upright. No tassles for the handlebars, though;)

I have an old, old one of these that DBF and I found in the middle of nowhere. We just need to fix the brakes, add a basket, and possibly a motor and I am good to go.

ouch...that's a lot of moola...and my bike has these weird coaster brakes...so I don't know if I could have a tricycle effect with it...

This is more my style. Lol I don"t think I could balance on two wheels anymore. Now three sounds good.

Lady - That is similar to the one we found. I rode it around DBF's backyard and was able to maintain my balance. I really need to get with it and get the brakes fixed on it and then paint it. The basket and motor can come later. I want to put an electric motor on it with a solar panel. But, that's DBF's job as he is much better at that type of thing than I am.;)

I asked the DH to get me one of those three wheeled bikes for my b/d! I want me one! I want streamers and a bell too. :D I miss riding a bike.

lookie what I found! an electric one!

I want one!

I had a really cool bell once. Ring-ring. Now I zoom in my chair, no way could I sit on any bike seat. No bell but I can yell for others TO GET OUT OF MY WAY!! (I'm a little old and cranky)

Debbie D 02-24-2010 09:41 AM

I had one of those banana-seat thingies with the weird handlebars...all sparkly and everything...it got stolen out of our garage:(

tkrik 02-24-2010 09:54 AM

Dej - I like the idea of an electric one. Muscle fatigue happens so quickly so having a motor is a great option - I want to be able to get back home.:(

The bikes are expensive though and there is no way I could ever afford one. I was thrilled to find one out in the middle of nowhere - literally no where - like 50 miles or so to the nearest town, village, etc. You would have thought I won the lottery. It does need some work as it is old and rusty. But that is just cosmetic. ;)

Dejibo 02-24-2010 12:15 PM

I think the seat look very high on the electric model. I am not sure I could balance well up there on a pedestal.

tkrik 02-24-2010 12:46 PM

This would work with balance issues - quadricycle.

I was going to say a three wheeler. I am a avid MT.Biker and have a very expensive one that I have not ridden in a year and a half.. I miss it and people tell me that I'll be able to ride it this spring/summer.

Lady 02-26-2010 12:19 AM

tkrik, I like that one. Add a motor and it would be a golf cart. Now if it has two sets of pedals, I would sit back and relax and let some family member ride me. You can get plenty of fresh air but you have to get it to a good place to ride.

It is mostly city-like where I live. Go in the street and you're done in by cars. I could ride around the parking lot though.:)

Eric, I hope you get back to riding when you start to feel better. We all miss something in our life that we have trouble doing at this time.

Me, I love to dance, but would fall over going solo. I would have to hold on to someone to even consider dancing. The motion would toss me over.

Eric, have you tried to use a stationary bike in the house to keep up your biking?

Dejibo 02-26-2010 09:00 AM

The DH said he is going to get me a trike. I cant seem to stay balanced on a regular bike well enough, and he worries. This way he said I can go riding and not have to wobble all the way down the street. He is terrified I am gonna fall over into the street and get smacked by a car. That 4 wheeler looks awesome!

Debbie D 02-26-2010 09:14 AM

When DH and I were teens, he and his best bud made a bike-built-for-two out of 2 bikes.
He's talked of hooking our bikes together the same way so he can help me with balance and pedaling...do I have the best guy or what?:D

Awwww! Yes, you do have a great guy and are very lucky to have him. That is so sweet that he is thinking of you like that.

Try one of these!

Debbie D 02-26-2010 03:38 PM

TXB, I don't think that would fit on the trails I use...that thing is wide!!

TXBatman 02-26-2010 05:06 PM

Yeah, I agree...it looks really wide on the image, but it is probably about the same width as the other trike somebody posted above. Either one is probably a little wide for most hike/bike trails though.
