Thank you for this Alffe. Walter Koenig lives here in Vancouver and this is where his son, Michael, took his life. He pleaded with the public to help us find his son to no avail ... and now to read that Marie Osmond lost her 18 year old son... my God... so utterly devastating ....

Walter, who played Chekov on Star Trek, said one thing in that article that stands out to me:
Quote:

"For those families who have members who they fear are susceptible to this kind of behavior, don't ignore it, don't rationalize it, extend a hand."
I believe that when we are susceptible, we rationalize the irrational...

I was just talking with my dd who is at Duke about the students at Cornell .
She has a few friends spread out in different states one goes to Purdue one to Cornell another George Washington Univ. and another at Yale. high school pals that are freshman in college now
Anyhow dd is engineering like those at Cornell and it is not just that one college it is everywhere the pressure to ace everything being in a top college .
dd boy friend has been depressed since starting and she is worrying about him
they just had exams this week and one they both took she did great and he did not :( .they got the grades today .
at Duke they have fliers and signs and stuff all around with info for anyone needing support and help. I am glad I got to have another talk with my dd on this subject . dd wont think twice about calling boy friends mom if it starts getting to far. He used to be on meds for depression when he was younger .
and well it never hurts to talk to your kids even when they are 19 or any age.. talking is good. She even said she was glad we can talk about it
I am so Glad I failed my attempts !!!
Thanks for posting the articles AlffeMom

Quote:

347 military personnel were killed in the two wars, while at least 381 warriors took their own lives
referring to one of the articles you posted Alffe.

Wow, don't even get me started...

our world needs so much work on it...

and it feels so helpless to me...

that I admit I try not to think about it...

which I know is wrong. :(

My hope is that more people reach out to what's available to them... one person at a time... we can all make a difference by reaching back...

I'm so grateful to have this forum.
