9 months of fighting SSDI... today is decision day.
I got a call a few minutes ago from the SSDI worker who I have been hounding for the last 2 months. They needed additional employment history, which I gave him. I was told they finally have all of the paperwork from all of the doctors and a decision will be made today and I will know something in the next 2 days.
Now I wait, and I am antsy. |
strong prayers, and gentle hugs for you!
|
Keeping fingers and toes crossed for you.
|
It shouldn't be so difficult.....but unfortunately it is sometimes. I hope you get the answer you've been waiting for. :)
|
Now we are waiting with you.
|
It's like I drank a whole pot of espresso! COME ON ALREADY!!! The other ood news of the day; lawyer is on standby if they deny, we will be filing for a court appeal and requesting it be back dated to June when I first applied since they threw it out and made me reapply in jan, if it is approved it will only be from jan 15.
AND.... DH2B got his paperwork!!! His last day going getting up at 4 to go to the army is next friday when his terminal leave starts and his officially OUT as of May 26. How awesome would it be to get my approval today? |
I'm keeping lots of stuff crossed for you!!
|
Not to intrude on your thread, but since I'm confused about all of this, I wonder what it means that I have a psychiatrist interview for SSDI when I get back from vacation...is this normal?
Leggz, I hope everything goes well!! |

and I am still waiting! If they have learned anything in the last 9 months of dealing with me, it should be that I am not a patient person. |
Keeping positive thoughts for you!!
|
No news yet, Legz?
|
Sadly no. no news. still sitting here waiting...still antsy... now I think they are just messing with me. was told yesterday they would make a decision, but according to the website no decision has been made yet. Hoping to have a letter tomorrow.
|
Please let us know as soon as you hear something...we're praying for ya!
|
Wow
I was sent to a state shrink due to the fact the doctors said I was depressed but I was not under the care of a mental doctor. Its normal for them to request this type of doc.
I hope everything goes exactly the way you want it to go!! |
I am hoping a letter from SSDI will arrival soon, one that you can hang on the wall. Good luck to you and to DH2B for getting out in May. Praying for all good news for you.
|
Hope today is the day!!!!

Ever seen someone's head explode? Keep watching!
I check the mail, no news from SSDI. I check the website, no news from SSDI. I call the 800 #, and I am told "according to our files your case is still pending and we have until may 20th to give you a decision". I call the case worker (the same guy who called me on monday to tell me a decision will be made that day).... and it rings and rings and rings and rings, no voicemail, no press 0 to be directed to an operator... just ringing. Ok, maybe he is at lunch (it is 12:45 at this point). It is now 1:45 and still no answer and no voicemail. You guys remember a few months ago on the news there was a guy in Canada that took a disabilty office hostage? I totally get his frustration. I really do. I understand why people go crazy after dealing with the SSDI people. |
If you didn't have to go on SSDI before, you surely do, after dealing with them..:Crazy 2:
|
Legzz, a watched pot is slow to boil..you need to go about your business and do other things, or you'll go crazy!!

Well boys and girls I believe I may have found the problem. Today I got a response from the Secretary of Health and Human Resources for the state of Virginia.
You see a week or so ago, I contacted the governor's office about the problems with both Medicaid and SSDI asking for any help I could get in getting these matters resolved. They contacted the state Disabilities and Determination Services who contacted the Regional Director for Disability Determination and Rehabilitative Services, who contacted the SSDI office that has all of my paperwork. Apparently all of this was done last Friday. Confused yet? I am. It seems my asking for help was a good thing as they now know that I am determined to have this matter resolved and I have no problems with going over their heads to do so. However, this may be the reason that they have now decided that they are not legally obligated to make a final decisions until May. Which is fine. I will continue to wait in frustration. In the mean time, I will follow up with this letter in regards to the Medicaid issues, and also ask why no response was warrented to the statement that not one but two state employees on two seperate occasions told me I should consider having anothter child as it would speed up the process of determination. |
I feel for you!
I feel so bad for you! And yes, aren't they afraid someone may go postal on them or in their case SSDI-al on them?
I have to add this to the mix: The other day I called the federal tax help line. I was on hold for eight minutes......when I finally got someone, I asked my question and the guy said to me "its in the 1040 instruction book - look it up" Would not give me the answer or help me with my confusion. I think government workers are not happy with their jobs. I finally just said "never mind:rolleyes: and I'm glad our conversation was recorded for quality assurance".... click and dial tone |

Update!
Happy Friday all. I managed to get in touch with the operator at SSDI in fairfax yesterday and explained the phone issues with my case worker. She was able to put me through to his voicemail. Today he calls back.
The system (which we all know is flawed, to say the least) is that he collects all medical info and makes his determination if he decides that you are indeed disabled it goes to their doctors for another medical determination. The doctors on their team apparently were confused about 1 of my cervical MRIs. That is 1 out of the 7 Cervical MRIs that they have on file. But they were confused anout the ONE and why the lesions had tried to grow together into one big mass. I wa told that a decision had been reached and said decision left the office this afternoon and I owuld be notified by mail in the next few days (should be by monday, but we all remember last monday!). By law he is not allowed to tell me yes or no over the phone. So I am to anxiously stare at my mailbox for the weekend and all of Monday until i am allowed to know what decision was made on my case. |
ARGH, I don't like that rule of not telling you. There he sat knowing your outcome and couldn't say anything. Ugh
|
yes it is maddening, BUT although he is not allowed to tell me yes or no, he did make it a point to tell me the steps of processing. So I asked him if he determined a person was NOT disabled, does it still progress to their team of doctors for a decision? and the answer was no. if he determines they are not disabled it is then signed off by him and his boss and a denial letter is sent.
So I know that menas I got a yes from him. Now I wait to see what their doctors have to say and if they decide against my team of specialists who are trained specifically to treat my medical issues. |
When Jim was approved the same thing happened. He got approved for 50% but was going for at least 75%. Of course that was 20+ years ago. But the good news is he was approved. We just had to appeal the 25% and he won that too.
It was a rough time because he had to be out of work 3 months and that meant I had to pick up double shifts at work. Yikes, Uncle Sam took a huge chunk of that. Never work more than 10-15 hours overtime to stay within your tax bracket. haha |
