Mom (81) is having surgery today.

My mom is having knee replacement surgery right now. I am so nervous, and I feel bad that I am not there. She lives 500 miles from me. My older sister and brother are with her. Please keep her in your thoughts.

Kudos to Mom! I'll be praying for both of you, Barb. Be of good cheer, my dad got a new hip at 81 and it led to his second adolescence! The recovery was surprisingly easy for him (yes, it was a lot for an old fart), and once healed, there was no stopping him. :)

I hope the surgery is a great success Barb....it must be so hard to be
far away.:hug::hug:

hugs and prayers for both of you.

Doctor said she did well in surgery -- only took one hour and 45 minutes. She is out of recovery, and is now back in her own room. Pretty groggy but said hi to me on my sister's cell phone. Hopefully the recovery will go as well. Thank you for all of your prayers!

So glad surgery went well and hope the recovery goes just as well.

Glad to hear Mom made it through surgery ok, Barb. I know how hard it is to be so far away when family is going through ''stuff''. take care and sending healing prayers her way.

Good to hear your mom is out of surgery and doing well.

They have already gotten her out of bed, used a walker to sit in chair with knees bent, and she just ordered chicken noodle soup and creme brulee. I wish I was as tough as my mom. The surgery center she is in has a personal chef:)

SandyC 03-29-2010 03:37 PM

Wow! Good for her! Personal chef? I so need to get with the times. LOL

Just heard that my mom is not doing so well today. They are having problems with regulating pain medication and she seems confused. So please keep those prayers coming.

karousel 03-30-2010 01:44 PM

Prayers will keep coming. (((hugs)))

Talked to my older sister and she said mom is doing okay. It appears my brother exaggerated her condition, and told my sister she needed to come to the hospital. She said she did have a rough morning as they were having problems finding the right pain med for her, and that the pain meds were making her a little "loopy" then. But they had her walking this afternoon and she had been sitting in her chair for the past hour. I think she also needs a few breathing treatments as her oxygen level is a tad bit low.

I guess my brother expected her to be skipping down the hallway since she did so well yesterday.

She did say that she was not having the other knee done.:)

SandyC 03-30-2010 04:50 PM

Good to hear. I am sure the pain meds given at recovery helped her do so well yesterday. Today the pain and swelling and all that junk are kicking in. Gotta love family.

Ask her again in six months, Barb. No joke, a neighbor had the same attitude after a hip replacement (it is a lot to go through for the patient and the caretaker at home). Six months later, she was so happy with the one, she went and had the other done. Her husband said she aims to play tennis again! She's 88.
