Oppostional Thumbs
My opposable thumbs are oppositionally resting in the palm of my hand. I believe they have developed some defiant disorder and they won't work!
I guess what I want them to do, 'is not in their job description'. hmmm I can't even sit around and twiddle them.:( |
There once was a poster called Cy
Whose Fee, Fo & Fum had no Fi When asked why so glum She said it’s my thumbs I can’t pull a plum from my pie Hope you're feeling better soon. |
Dumb thumbs:Bawling:.
I want my plum! |
I had a minor accident yesterday with my right thumb.
I won't go into the stupid thing that happened to me, which was my fault, but let's just say this "accident" ripped the nail bed on the left side of my right thumb. To say this has been painful, is an understatement. It throbbed all night. It is throbbing now. Everything I touch, or do hurts it. I finally soaked it for a long time in epsom salts, and then put Americaine ointment on it (strong benzocaine stuff) and wrapped it in a cushioned bandage...and it is tolerable now. I will redress it with antibiotic again, tonight to keep the risk of infection down. It doesn't even look bad....but sheesh...every nerve in my finger must be throbbing today. I sure hope I can sleep tonight. I can certainly understand hand problems today!. |
Gee, Mrs D! Sounds like....
what other PN onsets are like, but only in the thumbs? Ready for amputation yet? {Tongue in cheek here....}
But wowsers, thumbs not working, RAW NERVES and what do we want? Essentially getting back to 'nothing' No pain. Plain and simple. Wish it could be so. All I can say Cy, is DANG! In that it occurred on a late Friday Afternoon. Mrs D? Do you have a vat of xylocaine you can dip your thumb in? It works well for a while, but when it wears off? Whoooeee! You know!!!! [Luv the chicks!] Dont wish these things to happen to anyone! Cy? Got exercise putty? Keep working that stuff IF you can! Hugs and hope to all! - j |
Oh I wish I could use the putty....my bones in the thumb have grown to the proportions of Giganticus Midwestius. I have major arthritis in there....and several other places.
MRSD I do hope your thumb feels better soon! Dare I ask do you have anything stronger around the house?? If so, tonight may be the night to take it!! I overdid it yesterday....had my one day of energy per month and the garden beckoned....and you know my garden is some one else's entire yard. I am wondering about joint replacement, except that, I have so many OTHER issues, I wonder if it would work....they have a procedure where they use only your own tissue....but, it sounds so darn drastic, and results sound mixed. I am hoping to find a way to do things, without da tumbs. Oh, those chicks are sooo cute MRSD. I had to make a visit to Tractor Supply store to see their fuzzy babies! I almost left with a few ducks....but I didn't. I have my brood of chickies on order. |

How awful mrsD. It sounds like pure torture, and brought to mind movies that threaten pulling out fingernails to get someone to talk. Now I understand.
Wishing you both are feeling better soon, and able to enjoy your Easter Sunday. |
Well, you know that commercial... where the person depicted slaps his/her forehead and says... "I could have had a V8" ?
This is what I did--- I got out my magnets. I taped one of the 1/2 inchers to the base of my thumb, and after about 45 min. the throbbing stopped! For some reason certain positions of my hand made the throbbing worse, and lying down seemed to make it worse. (just like PN pain). So I taped the magnet to the wrist right at the base of my thumb and it stopped the throbbing about 90% after about 45 minutes, and I did get some sleep (unlike the night before). I think it is time to make a magnet thread here. Magnets are helpful, but not for all types of discomfort. I usually offer them thru PM but I have discussed them occasionally on the threads here. I'll post the thread later today, then it will be a reference point for other visitors here, in the future. I had to take the magnet off to work on the computer here, and naturally the injury is where you hit the space bar typing! But it seems a bit better than yesterday, which was the pits. |
So sorry about your thumb.
Its the healing time and the constant reminder that opposable thumbs are what makes us primates the top of the evolutionary chart. :winky: But I know from past experience that a bad thumb is a real bummer til it heals.:( I hope that's real soon, for you. Picking up a dropped penny or dime with your 1st & 2nd finger is really frustrating.:rolleyes: |
I AM using my left hand alot more. ;) Luckily I do have more
dexterity in it than many right handed people. |

Sorry about your thumb mrsD, but glad the magnet helped! |
I could use some simian characteristics.....and a tail.
