Finally...

I usually post on BT (as newlyb12def), but read here often.
I've been dying to tell my friends online that I've finally been approved for SSDI. I got a fully favorable OTR decision.
My onset date is Sept. 1st, 2008. I have progressive MS, I'm bipolar II, and have degenerative disc disease. I'll be 30 in July.

I'm SO glad that I can see some light at the end of this tunnel...
but I'm extremely anxious about when I'll receive my backpay and 1st benefit check. My claim is already in Baltimore for processing.
We're in the process of losing our home in a short sale, and I've had to beg for money from family members just to get by (sound familiar to anyone!?). I feel like a scumbag for having my hand out all the time, and really hope that I never have to do this again.

Thank you for "listening."

Congrats! I believe I have chatted with you in BT forum. Not sure what happened to that site. Anyway I am glad you won. This takes alot off you. I also had to beg borrow from family members I still owe my parents. So do not feel bad about that. Hope you health holds up for you!

Thanks, H_D! I remember you from BT... they are moving their server to a new location, and no one knows when they'll be up and running again. They have had a lot of downtime over the years.

Thank goodness, I know how hard it is when your sick and you can't work, and the bills are piling up. Hopefully you'll start getting those checks soon. Do you have direct deposit? Don't feel like a skumbag because your sick, I'm sure your family understands.

OhKay 04-07-2010 09:09 AM

Thanks! :)

I do have direct deposit... and I've been checking my checking account compulsively :D

I checked my bank account this morning...
all my back pay is there!!!!

I couldn't believe it.
I waited 1 1/2 yrs. to get approved, but I got my back pay within 2 weeks of my lawyer calling to notify me of the decision!

I still haven't received my decision letter, or explanation of benefits; but I guess that's par for the course!

So many loads off of my shoulders now...
I am one happy lady! :)

Achilles927 04-09-2010 12:01 AM

Good for you! I too had a long road - my wait time was almost double yours - 3 years! I got my decision on Feb 3, 2010 (the judge told me at the hearing I was fully favorable so I didnt have to wait for a letter) and I got my backpay on March1, 2010. My first benefit check will be April 28th. Its def a great feeling to have some of the pressure off isnt it?

Congrats again and good luck.

Hoosier_Daddy 04-09-2010 10:35 AM

Congratulations to both of you. Either they are getting better at paying out benefits or you 2 are lucky. It took me 6 motnhs to get my backpay. Anyway this takes so much off you now!

collinsc 04-09-2010 10:46 AM

blessing

CONGRATULATIONS on your wonderful news. It really is a blessing when your finally get it isnt it? I had a wonderful lawyer who made everything easy and almost painless but it still was pretty nerve racking with all the other problems that go along with it. LIKE THE NO MONEY!!! Well I hope that it helps give you some comfort!!::Good-Luck:

I guess my benefit calculations were easy:
I never qualified for SSI; and I don't have any children, pensions, or workman's comp claims.
I hope that everyone's payouts are as quick as mine!

Thank you all for your congrats!

FYI- I've been checking my online application status, and it still said "a decision has not been made on your application" until yesterday, the same day my back pay was deposited. So much for that system!

Hello Ohkay my name is chim I'm also in the same boat I just my fully favorable decison last Mon and am wodering how long it would take me to get my award letter for my SSDI. I have a 3 year old daughter and I'm not sure if she will get a check every month or do I have to apply for her as well?? Anyway congrats to you Ohkay.....

finz 04-12-2010 07:49 AM

You do have to apply for your daughter, it's not automatic, but I applied for my kids as I was doing my application because they included those pages. Are you sure you haven't applied for her ? Best to call SSA and see what info they have on you.

wtg IM WAITING AS WELL FINIALLY GOT APPROVED AFTER 3 YEARS HOPE YOU GET YOUR MONEY IN TIME GL AND GOD BLESS

Janke 05-18-2010 12:08 AM

Written favorable decision 4/30/10. It is reasonable to expect the first check within 30-60 days and retroactive benefits 60-90 days later. The verbal ok phone call from your attorney does not start the payment center working on processing your claim, only the written decision starts the clock.

It is not just pushing one button either. If you also have an SSI claim, that will have be adjudicated before the full retroactive SSDI benefits are determined since there can be an offset.

But when it does come, enjoy your tropical vacation or the Wii.

walkerslbje 05-19-2010 12:33 AM

hOw did u get your money so fast?
