Broke my Kindle
Put a remote on top, pushed in the drawer and CRACK right across the screen. Need and love my Kindle, with use of only one hand, can't turn pages in a regular book, so ordered another one from Amazon. Happy Mother's day present I guess.
|
Oh kicker! That's too bad. I hate it when things like that happen. It's definitely a present you deserve to have.
|
Well better that than your head my sweet...cause I speak from experience.
I accidentally closed a sliding door on my head...owwwwieeee...how dumb is that?lol Guess the ole reflexes not quite as fast as I thought. lol |
As you know, I love my kindle. DS bought an iPad, I think he uses it like a kindle but it has more on it. It may even cost less than a kindle. Don't know.
Just talking.:) When does your new kindle arrive? |
Ouch! I hate all destruction of books, this one is especially painful. :(

Buy a cover to keep it in. I have one made by a company called JAVOedge (actually have two covers, won the second one in an online contest last month) I keep mine in the cover all the time. Keeps it from getting dirty and keeps things from getting poked into the screen when I'm not using it. links to pictures of my Kindle in one of it's JAVOedge covers. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v1...t=DSC03683.jpg http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v1...t=DSC03678.jpg Quote:

The new Kindle arrives Thursday, They have all the info on every book I ever ordered and will put them on my new Kindle. No one has to pay for this. Purchased my first Kindle with gift cards from Credit card points I saved up. This is first time I actually have to pay money for Kindle. All books I get, I buy with gift cards from Card rewards. I charged the dentist for 3 of us so look forward to more rewards. I need my Kindle, didn't hesitate to order one for a second.
|
OK, I give. What is a kindle? I figue it is something pretty important.
|
It's an electronic book reader made and sold by Amazon.com
wikipedia page about the history of the Kindle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Kindle and the order page for the Kindle on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Wireles.../dp/B0015T963C |

Kicker, I'm glad you're getting a new Kindle. Maybe an insurance policy for it wouldn't be a bad idea?:winky: |
The negative with a Kindle - DS is reading Newsweeks Top 100 books (he is currently reading Crime and Punishment. (He is actually LOVING it. When he had to read it in high school, he did not and thought it was boring but now for fun...?? FYI the crime happens at the 17% so the punishment is 83% of the entire book.)
Anyway to get back to the negative, he was planning to read Catch 22 and because the publisher will not allow it to be sold in ebook form, he cannot download it legally. I was surprised to learn that Catch 22 would not be available!!! That is strange, don't you think? I guess Google is doing something. DS says it will change ebooks. Something about Google scanning virtually everything? |
Catch-22 is one of my favorite books. Read it in high school for fun.
It's not really strange that it's not available in e-book form. It's the publisher's decision. They probably dont think they'll make any money selling it in e-book form. I'd love to get Catch-22 in e-book form too... |
Catch 22 - I was a teen (eons ago) and going to the church (catholic) library one day just to see what they had (tiny place in church) I brought back Catch 22,my brother had borrowed long ago and never returned and it sat for years in our hall. The old lady acting as librarian (can't believe she was still alive!) was there and yelled at me since my brother, who she remembered, wasn't there. Never went there again. That lady should have been a nun, she was so mean (Take it from this Irish Catholic, some nuns are really mean!!) As a result, I'll never read that book.

[QUOTE=PolarExpress;649094]OK, I know this is almost a threadjacking, but I have to know...How does one accidently slam their head in a sliding door?
I'm wondering the same thing. Uh, COK? |
two things
1. Same DS was 18 months old. He was jumping up and down on sofa. He ended up jumping over the sofa and landing on his head on the runner of the sliding door. The sofa was up against it. Head wounds really bleed. Six stitches later. Guess he jumped into a sliding glass door. 2. One of my favorite books when I was much younger was 100 Years of Solitude. Never read Catch 22 but I did read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. |
I ordered yesterday, Kindle came today (I pay no shipping cost),put old books on easily, been reading!!This new 2nd generation is slightly different from old one but nothing I can't do.
|
Was your old Kindle the Original version or the 2nd generation?
I have one of each. I really like the big buttons on the first version, but there are features of the 2nd gen that I really like too. (text-to-speech, better internet browser, text is much clearer) I think the second gen has a much better battery life. I think I recharge the second gen maybe once a month. The first version if I dont charge it every week or two, I'll go and find that it's battery died. I really love how light the Kindles are. About 1 pound when they're wearing their covers. I dont have to hold up big heavy books to read. |
