Elbow Surgery
hello everybody,
please excuse my typing. i had my (left) elbow surgery yesterday afternoon, and it went well. my doctor performed an ulnar nerve decompression. evidently, cartilage had built up around the nerve in my elbow, which was pushing against the nerve and causing all of the problems in my hand. This, I was told was the easiest to correct. I'm already getting some feeling back in my left ring finger. My arm was set inside a rigid splint that goes from the bottom of my fingers up to just under my armpit, keeping my arm bent at a 90 degree angle. They then put cotton over that, and then wrapped an Ace bandage around all of that. They also gave me a sling to wear when I'm up walking around, and Vicodin. I am scheduled to see my orthopedic surgeon a week from today. he will remove the dressings, etc. and probably remove the staples if everything looks okay. Hopefully, the splint will stay off. Then, we'll talk about exercises. it had gotten to the point where the muscle between my forefinger and the bottom of my thumb had collapsed, forming an indentation. This made my left hand very weak and clumsy. The left side of my left ring finger, my entire little finger, and the left side of my palm were entirely numb/dead. There are no guarantees with this surgery, but it was necessary, Now, it's over and I can begin the healing and nerve regeneration process. Arnie has to cook ans wash dishes. We had cream of wheat for supper, because that's the only thing he knows how to cook. Luckily, he also has to do the dishes, so we've decided to eat out the rest of the week. Yeah! Monty is walking on my right side now. I was amazed how easily he switched over, as he's always walked on my left since I got him 2-1/2 years ago. He turned five last week! |
Excuse what typing? You done good, Woman! :D
Glad your surgery is over and that you can see improvements already! Your have such a smart doggie! And your husband, well, obviously you've done all the cooking, so it will be nice to have a little break. :) How is his health nowadays? Is he still undergoing treatments? Glad you are on the road to recovery.:hug::hug: |
So happy everything went well for you. I do believe I'd keep that splint on as long as I could if it meant eating out every night!! ;)
Get better soon! |
feel better!

Glad the surgery went well. Hope you have a quick recovery!

Good girl, now take care of that whole arm, we need you typing around here. :)
|
I hope you recover quickly!!!

I didn't know it was happening, but I'm glad it's over and the healing has begun. :)
It seems you trained your doggy better than your hubby..:D Give Monty a big smooch from Auntie Sally and just a hug for Arnie..:p I hope the healing goes fast and complete.. |
Hope you're on the mend quickly, but I agree with Kitty...don't take the splint off any time too soon;)
|
Glad all went well and hope you heal fast. Monty switched fast because he had to show you how smart he really is! Enjoy your dinners out!!
|
Ouch! Get better soon!
Good thing Monty and Arnie are there to take care of you, especially when it comes to picking up the takeout! |
I'm so pleased to hear that your operation has been successful, as I fear that I too am facing similar surgery in the not too distant future.
I also suffer from numbness and prinkling pain in my ring and little fingers. Mine is much worse when I first wake in the morning, than any other time of the day. At the moment a night splint is helping but from what I hear, unless I stop using my hand completely, I may need surgery in the future. I'm just recovering from a broken arm so am trying hard to avoid an operation, but I thank you for posting such a positive report. At least I'll not worry so much if I have to have one. |

Arnie has been feeling great during his chemo break. CT scans are scheduled for June 7, and we see the oncologist June 9 to get the results. Thanks so much for asking about him. |
