HI!
I am new to this site. After 18 months, i was approved for SSDI after my hearing on 4/27/10. I am so relieved. I have Bipolar Disorder, OCD, Borderline Personality Disorder and I think something else..who knows...so many disorders, so little time.
I too an wondering how long it takes to get a check....do you get backpay first? Do you get a letter or something telling you the amounts? My approval was only a week and a 1/2 ago, so i don't expect anything for another 3 weeks or so. I guess it caries from state to state. I am so anxious!!!!! My backpay will not be very much if anything. My disability start date is 3/2006, but i collected unemployment while waiting for the hearing and was totally unaware that it is a no no to do that...now that I think of it of course it is a no no---you have to answer the question "are you willing and able to work"...hmmmmm...oops...anyway, parise God the ALJ didn't freak out on me for it, I was already a hysterical mess at my hearing....but my atty says that Once it is processed in Maryland they will do the math and deduct what I owe as far and unemployment..so I am paying UI back I guess. Makes sence --right? OK...Take care people!:D |

Here is a link I pulled up about unemployment and disability.Congrats by the way. http://www.socialsecurity.gov/policy...rsn2008-01.pdf |
SSDI benefits can be offset by public disability benefits or worker's compensation, but not by unemployment insurance benefits. So if it is truely unemployment and truely SSDI, there will be no subtraction or payback of unemployment.
If you also have an SSI claim, all income will be factored in to determining payment, including unemployment and any other money recevied. Reasonable to expect 30-60 days for first check, 60-90 for retroactive benefits. SSDI claims are paid out of the payment center in Maryland. It is not a state issue. Local offices are run differently within a state, even within a city. SSDI is a federal program. There are state employees who make disability decisions, but once the decision is made, the difference in processing time becomes based on the backlog in your local office, the backlog in the payment center mod, and the individual claims reps and claims authorizers assigned to your case. Not a state issue. |
Congrads on your approval

Thank you you guys! You were very helpful!
Janke..what did you mean by "truely UI" or "truely SSDI". Gotcha as far as the local office backlog thing. Thank you! It is SDDI, not SSI. Again, thank you so much! |

Unemployment not state disability (or another name for a public disability benefit). In California, the EDD pays out both unemployment and state disability benefits. SDI offsets SSDI, UI does not. |
Please forgive me Janke, I have no idea what you are talking about. I am not too bright when it comes to this kind of stuff..hmmmm...or any other stuff actually..anyway, am I in trouble as far as back pay and recieving UI? I am in PA. I am so sorry for being a pain in the butt!

Cb,
That means you are fine with Unemployment Insurance as far as SSDI offsets. It's only a problem when you are collecting a public disability insurance (which you were not) Hope that helps..... |
Oh my goodness..does that maean they will not take my backpay to pay back UI????
|
SSDI doesn't payback unemployment, only public disability benefits (or like in my case, with collecting WC benefits, my backpay and ongoing benefits were cut to reflect the fact that I was also getting WC)
Based on the info you have provided, your whole backpay should be yours. |
Holy cow, I think I am going to cry--I am crying...I pray that is what happens....I will be able to pay off my debt. I can send my 4 year old to preschool. I don't know what to do with myself. We can get an air conditioner because we will be able to afford it. I don't know--I am beside myself. I better not get too over excited just in case. My husband lost his job while on workers comp, he is still on workers comp, but i don't know if he will be bale to file for UI when he recovers..this would be back up in case he can not collect UI.
Thank you! |
The kids weren't automatically signed up for SSSDI, so i did an app over the phone. It should take about 30 days to process. Halehluhia!!!! (can't spell):D
