Erupting lesion pain- literally unbearable
Hi everyone, hope this finds you as well as possible.
I had another bad fall recently, on concrete really banged my knees, very swollen bleeding but felt lucky. It took almost 14 hours for the rsd to "find" as i call it the injury. Has this happened to you? When it did, on my original injury leg ,the pain that pursued was the most unbearable pain i have experienced to date . Those of you that know me know that is saying quite a bit. It was exactly like hot acid was being poured in a open wound. non stop for some 12 hours. Just before this began I felt electric shock and needles all around my right knee- I said to my sister- that wasn't painful but i don't think its good I better lie down. And an hour later it started. 4 hours later i realized a lesion was coming out dead center of the wound. Nothing helped the pain- not morphine, not oxyc etc. if it starts up tonight I will go to emergency room i could not go through it again. Has anyone else had this happen? I feel like the fall was so bad it triggered my rsd back to day one. The alloydina around the wound is severe as is the edema. Any ideas for me. Any similar experiences. With the amount of meds I am on would the ER help me. I m asking if an IV for be able to help reduce the pain. I take such high does at home I'm not sure they would give me enough to help me. My blood pressure was 200 over 158 for hours.. I called a Friend to come and spend the night with me because when i tried to run cold water on it i almost blacked out. Any advice would be welcomed. I really need to know what you think about the ER. would an Iv help. I don't want to go if it wont. Last time it took 12 sticks to get an iv in. I take 3 opana 40 mg. and 5 oxycodone 30mg for breakthrough. and 2 lyrica 150 mg. that is why i am wondering if IV would help. thank you in advance for any advice you could give me . sincerely dc |
Sorry to hear about your fall
I am sorry to hear you had fallen , I can not imagine what you must be going through . Do you have a good relationship with your PM doc ? The reason I ask is my doc and I have an understanding or plan I guess you could say , that if I am at the point an ER visit is needed I am to call him and he will have awaiting instructions at ER for me . Not sure what to say about the IV meds, however I know whatever they give before they do procedures such as SGB's , make me woozy . So i would assume and only assume that they would help if needed . Hope you are doing better tonight and take care !

Don't stay alone while you are in this crisis. I passed out one morning from low blood pressure, Was out for an hour and half. My husband was upstairs and when I woke up, I couldn't get up,crawled to door to bang on it. He called paramedics and I passed out again, He was told I was dead. close call. was in hospital 6 days. I was on blood pressure meds. one double dosed and one thriple dosed. Now on two double dosed. Your blood pressure is dangerously high. I bought a kit at Costco. Does your Dr. have you take a baby aspirin? I am so sorry you are going thru this. Last week I feel out of bed on my hip(was reaching for something) and couldn't walk for a few days -needed a cain hurt bad. I've had a couple lesions and swear if I go thru that again, will go to hospital. Sooooooo painful. I'm really worried about your blood pressure, you really need to see Dr. NOW. How hold are you. I'm 62 and 15 years of RSD full body and internally entire pelvic region. Please know we care, let us know how you are doing. Your friend, loretta |

I too was in hospital last week for low blood pressure and blacking out they said obstructive sleep apnea. I too was out for a half hour. I banged on the wall for my sister. she made me go to ER, thank God! BP was 58/48 so I'm going on both extremes. but my knees are really damaged. I am so frustrated. I couldn't believe i fell again. O M G does this hurt. I am going to either ER or othho to day because of pain , swelling and inability to walk and its day three. I think the low blood pressure or syncope is going to turn out to be from meds. this fall though has severely injured my knees I have to get them checked. that pain from the lesion, How are we going to make it when the pain just keeps going to new shocking heights. your right, i will not be able to ride that one out again by my self. it was just way too severe. but Loretta it took them 12 sticks to establish the Iv. ya know. why they just didn't listen to me and get the ultrasound first to find the vein ill never know. its all too much. Be safe and thank you so much , dc |

Hi I am sory about your fall and all you are going through. I don't have answers for this ? but I do have a ? for you. You stated that this was another fall. You may have stated this before but are you falling from the pain and not being stable or just fluke things? Have you had a bone density test? I hope you feel better and get some relief.

I thought 4 days, but husband said they kept me 6 days. The sympathetic nervous system causes high blood pressure, and the para sympathetic nervous system causes low blood pressure. That's why, they explained to me that our blood pressure can suddenly plummet. RSD is an autonomic disorder, which means we have no control over involuntary organs, thus issues with blood pressure, circulation, lungs, heart, bladder, colon. The hospital was the same one that RSDSA had their annual meeting at last year. I attended the meeting. There were several Drs. knowledable with RSD. The paramedics couldn't get a pulse and told my husband I was dead. It's very serious. Do you have a cuff and journal? Would be good to monitor it. I felt myself going out too. Very scary. My Dr. says if it happens once, it usually happens again. I have a friend here in Phoenix that has had 3 spells. I also am having sleep apnea issues and need to go thru sleep study. Do you gasp for air? Does it every wake you up gasping for air? We really need to follow thru and get checked out. Take care, your friend, loretta |
Loretta , Thank you for that useful information ! I have episodes of what I call extreme drowsiness that come out of no where . I wonder if they could be BP related ?I have never passed out with it but just have a pressure type feelling & cannot stay awake. And as for the sleep apnea I too wake gasping for air at times . However when I went in for sleep study , I could not sleep LOL so they could not complete study .

It's so hot already 100 plus in Arizona. I don't get out a lot in the summer because of it. I think the gasping for air is pretty important to find out the reason and using oxygen at night. I'm going to do the study when I get insurance. I've applied for SSDI. I'm 62. I'll probably turn 65 before I get insurance. Take care, i take my blood pressure a lot and write it down. I take two double dosed high blood pressure meds.. your friend, loretta |
obstructive sleep apnea
Quote:
Hi - forgive me if I already posted this- but i am going for the sleep test. first they are sending a machine to my home. the one that goes on your finger to measure oxygen thru the night and then I go to the hospital to spend the night.I'm sure i will end up having to sleep with a mask I am awake every hour thru the night. they think i have obstructive sleep apnea. my sweet lab(dog) barks like crazy and wakes me up when i am gasping for air or when I'm not breathing i don't know which? but she is exhausted all day too! I try to find some humor through all of this. I swear my dear doggy goes through everything I do. . she is even lame in one leg now. My sister has been staying with me to help until they stop the blackouts. However they do not think the sleep apnea is causing the blackouts as it causes and increase in blood pressure. so i am confused. i think who ever explained there 6 day hospital stay and the autonomic nervous system has it right about high/low and no control. thank you all so so much. I will let you know what happens. dc |

Loreetta, thank you for all the information. I also had a question are you wearing the mask at night? and if so .. how is it/ thanks dc |

Hi dc, I never did have the sleep study yet. I have no insurance and waiting for SSDI. I am the one that talked about the autnomic nervous system talked to you about high and low blood pressure, the sympathetic nervous system and the para sympathatic nervous system. I had to smile about your dear doggy. I have a cat, that lays next to me and loves to be in the same room with me. Have you ever looked at Dr. Hooshmand website. He practiced RSD 40 years in Florida. He is retired, but left his website up. It is rsdrx.com puzzles list. It is actually 146 questions from patients and his answers. It is excellent. Hope you are improving-let us know how you are doing. your friend, loretta:grouphug: |

Much more comfortable is the BiPAP machine with two pressures: one to inhale, one to exhale. Add to that soft "nasal pillows" that are held in place by comfortable headgear - my favorite brand is the ResMed "Swift LT" - and it's nothing to worry about. But at least the last time I look, in order to get the BiPAP who have to first fail the C-PAP. How do you fail it? Simple, a week after you have it you tell your doctor the truth: you can't stand the C-PAP, it drives you crazy, you rip it off in the middle of the night, etc., and you need to schedule an another appointment to discuss alternatives. I don't recall if it requires another sleep study or not, but be that as it may, the BiPAP is quite liveable. Not that I would wish it on someone in their 20s with an active social life. ;) Mike |
