We start at 5 then head to the swamp at lake martin then canoe around the lake thru the cypress trees to watch the sun set and have dinner there on the banks. I will get to practice my new skills and will stear the boat this time, be at the back...jeff is excited about being in front this time.
hope it doesn't rain which it has been all week, afternoon showers.

Difficult week with younger dd. Again this month she had a bad week or so. So sad, cried and awake for days, sleeping in spurts. I think the hormone's have something to do with it. The grief too, she is afraid to sleep.

We did a lot of keeping her mind busy, she asked about the pool going up this week, so we did. I also bought Pamperin....Something helped, I actually slept two nights now as she did. She has shown an interest in activities.

The space station is flying over again tonight from West to East about 10:00pm you sneeze you can miss it. We watched two nights ago. Also there are meteor showers going on until July. Hoping to see them.

We just started filling the pool, after weeks of 80's to 90*, Wednesday it goes back to 74*. I hope it is not cold again like last year. So I am hoping to get some sun and swim time in between thunderstorms over the weekend.

Hi,
-->>Hubby and I went to the beach the other night around 10:00 pm. It was gorgeous and a little windy with a big moon. The full moon is sometime on Sat.

-->>My father (yes) called me on my birthday and spoke about the night I was born. Weird stuff.

-->>I got a new cell phone and I hate it. I spent three or four hours trying to figure it out and I'm still not sure I could send a text to anyone. What the heck happened to the qwerty key pad?? Did the world change while I was doing something else? I did not notice in the store that my key pad is all weird and stuff.

-->> I'm in a major whiny mood. Off kilter.
M.

waves 06-26-2010 08:56 AM

Dear Mari

sounds so nice to go to the beach at night... sigh. and i will have to watch out for the full moon tonight.

sorry that your father weirded you out like that.

i don't have a qwerty keypad on my phone ... only numbers!!! :D i think even with qwerty i'd be like hey! there's too many buttons here for a phone! naah, but i know what you mean. ;) the computer keyboards here are not US. i install the US layout as a default so that it 'acts' like one - but then have to type from memory because the stuff on the keys doesn't match. changing layouts are annoying no matter how you slice it.

i hope you feel better but feel free to be as whiny as you want. :) (i did not find your post whiny by the way.)

Oh Mari Happy belated birthday!!!!
I kinda get the Dad reliving the night you were born. I do that on my kids birthdays, it is an emotional time when they place that helpless fragile bundle in your arms and there is so much love that you created this little imaage of ourself.

The beach sounds like such fun, especially at night with the breeze blowing off and a full moon. The space station flew over again last night 10:05 est. DH picked me up from grandbaby sitting at 1 am and we had the sun roof open and music blasting. Reminded me of 30 years ago when we dated.

Bizi a canoe ride, oh how neat. Just like Haiwatha, Sacagiwaya, spelling...?
Waves, great to read you!Sending a huge hug,

We have the pool up, the water is bone chilling from the mountain spring, but I have a solar cover on it now.
Everyone have as good a weekend as we all can.

the canoe trip was great yesterday!!!!
we really enjoyed it....very challenging, she led us thru really thick vegitation....on the shore, in the dark she fed us this fantastic meal, mango salsa and taboulli salad and a wrap with chocolate cookies for desert.I am getting better at canoeing...but still need to practice.
today we went for a drive to Lake Chicot state park. about an hour away north of us.
and went for a hike around the arburitum, 2 1/2 miles took about an hour. then we drove around the park...and headed home stopped by a race track evangeline downs casino and race track to watch a couple of races...it was fun. bet on a hourse who cam in third...rats..it was fun to see all of the horses... had a huge dinner buffet which was fair but they had really good gumbo!
and key lime pie.
came home and went for an in the dark walk around the neighbor hood.
watched 2 episodes of lost and took a shower to get the bug spray off.
meds should be kicking in any time now....

glad you had a good time canoeing bizi.

thank goodness the weekend is over? not really. i don't know what to do with myself any more. not during the week. not on a weekend.

i just had a really stupid fight with my mother over something stupid.

i have more i could gripe about but then i'd have to gripe about the fact of griping... :(:o:rolleyes:

i just feel ugly and pouty and cranky. it doesn't help the hairdresser did a horrible job. she took about 3 inches off ... going on 6 in the places she 'layered' ... my hair looked better before!!! :(:( and i went ahead and forked out the dough because i hoped it would cheer me up a bit to have nice hair again - but also so i could be more presentable at interviews without having to resort to a bun. now, i'm lucky if my hair will stay in a bun and it looks horrible otherwise. :(

i'm going on strike with hairdressers again. waaah. (there, i did gripe a bit...)

yeah i'm so upset i just don't know what to do about my hair. try to fix it myself or go to someone else. before it was too long for me to do it myself. now, i could probably manage. i have cut it before and done a good job, but usually end up taking a lot of length off by the time i get things even. and even a good professional will need to take a fair bit of length off, just to fix it at this point. :(:(:(

but if i cut it any more, with good or bad results i won't be able to put it up at all. at best, it will mean i will be hot because it is hot and i like to take it up. but, if it comes out bad, i will be forced to look unpresentable on top of being hot! so then, i'll have to resort to hacking it all off... like into a bob cut! :( that looks good but i didn't want to cut it that short! :( it was almost to my waist!!!! :(

i wish i had never done this. i don't have the money for haircuts so it was a double whammy. it was a treat so i could look nice and maybe feel a little better.

i wish i had just told her to cut it even all around and not layer it. it was wavy even without being layered, and looked good. :( it looked better then, even though uneven, than now. :(

sorry for the whining. this was supposed to be a present to myself, go figure.

bizi 06-29-2010 11:38 PM

well
I think that you should go to someone else and ask them to "fix" the layers leaving them as long as possible.
can you pull it up all of it up right now?
if you can't then you may as well go short al the way. but if you can pull all of it up then go and ask them to straighten up the layers,,,does that make sense.
or you can do it yourself if you feel comfortable doing that.
I think a bob sounds cute.... but that is DRASTICALLY different than hair to your waist!!!!!!

Dear Waves,

I suggest that you wait it out for a little bit.

I sort of want you to do me a favor and consider leaving your hair alone for at least one week.

It probably looks much better than you think.

Please. I think that right now is not a time to make big decisions.

Yeah, I know that hair does not exactly count as a big decision and that a hair cut is not irreversible, but cutting your hair could be irreversible enough that it takes awhile to grow out.

I'm sympathetic to your desire to want to fix.
I totally understand.

I'm asking you to wait a week.
Then do what you want with it 7 days from now.

Please.

During the next 6 days you can play around with hairstyles or leave it a lone and try to ignore it. I'm wondering if you have nice combs, barrettes, ribbons, wraps, or other accessories.

thanks for your feedback! :)

well, i normally would agree with the waiting. it is sensible. i already snipped a couple of spots myself - where there was obvious and very bad discrepancy. i did that the 2nd day and 3rd day afterwards. i've left it alone since... saturday? 3 days so far. i have been keeping it in a tail - and pretty much ignoring it. but yesterday i had to go to the dentist and was acutely aware of it looking horrible - felt so embarrassed.

it was almost to waist, and pretty much one length (not perfectly even because i had done it, but not terrible either). now, the longest part is down to my scapula, at the point where they jut out when moving the arms? the shortest layers are shoulder length. it's already a lot shorter than it was.

before, it looked good if partly gathered with one barrette/clasp, or in a pony tail (various ways), or in a bun or up (various ways).

she used this sort of razor-comb for the biggest cuts. then snipped at it some with scissors. i think that shavy thing makes the lengths all uneven, not cut with any rhyme reason or flow, but chaotically. my hair is wavy, but now these weird ends stick out like straight wisps all over.... awful!!!

i can get it into a bun, only just barely, and i haven't tried to see how long it will stay. it looks crappy in a pony tail. i can use one barrette, but, i suspect that just like a pony tail, that is going to look pretty cruddy now, because the shorter layers will "stick out" :( i don't like having bunches of things in my hair so more than that is not acceptable.

ok well for starters i will try the clasp in the back dealy and see if i can get it placed to not look bad. then i will stick it in a bun and see how long it holds. if either of those two produces acceptable results, i may let it grow out a bit more. otherwise, i think i will probably re-cut it.

another option is not to try to fix the layers - just cut it all shoulder length (essentially a long bob). it won't be puttable up but might not take too long to get there...

i feel bad this was a tgif thread and i've turned it into a hair thread.

I wear a head band to hold back my hair, it is very small and flexable so no headache, I have worn one for years, and occasionally a barette for bad hair days. I use a curling iron to curl my ends down as the rest of my hair still has about 1 inch of perm...I have been growing it all out over the past year. so it is mostly straight now, but I like a little curl at the ends.
so when the perm has completely grown out I wonder if my thin hair will even hold a curl???after all of that time...I may end up jsut getting another perm...lol
bizi
here is a picture of my friend susan and I after a girls night out!, you can see my hair alittle curly on the ends and my head band.:)

waves 06-30-2010 11:48 AM

Bizi! you look pretty and your hair looks very trim. :)

because i like my hair long, i don't use any heat on it at all. i let it air dry. in winter i sometimes have to make exception, say to wash it on a work night - i have to at least dry it some - can't go to bed with it wet. chemical wise i only use shampoo and conditioner, at most i will use a bit of light-hold, alcohol-free gel to help shape it. i used to do oil treatments too.

i have head bands too... when my hair isn't layered they work pretty well. i don't like the feel behind the ears though especially with glasses - i can't wear them every day. right now it just looks really bad loose, unless i really work with it and mess with it and put stuff on it and i am SO NOT into that!!!

oh i put my hair back with the barette, and THEN put it into a tail and wrapped it into a bun. it has held out - and i chopped veggies and cooked for a couple hours.

so at least i have a presentability strategy. if i can restrain myself (I REALLY HATE HOW IT LOOKS!) i will try to wait about a month before trying to fix it, so that regardless the outcome i will still be able to put it up. :o

week long moratorium on scissors

Dear Waves,
I think if you like your hair long, the bob is going to feel very dramatically different. That's why I wanted a week long moratorium on scissors.
I'm sure that the bob will look beautiful on you, but after the moratorium, you will have a better idea of what you want

She did not think through what you wanted and what would work for your hair. What was she aiming for? Trying to thin out the hair? You probably did not need thinning. Thick hair is a work of glory. You asked for shaping I guess and got this instead.

In two months time, your hair will be long enough for the bun and less crappy (your word) in a pony tail.

Then in a third month or fourth you can get the wispy things evened out.

those are good points about the wait, and the 3 months timeline. i haven't snipped after you posted to wait a week, btw. the haircut was thursday. snipped an aberrant wisp on friday & one saturday, then no more. :D;) it helps that it stays in a bun with the barrette. maybe i can manage this.

Tiho

Waves,

This probably takes too long to explain.

The person who has been cutting my hair for years went into the hospital last month so I had to get it cut by someone else in the shop who is really awful. She's very negative and is a bad hair dresser but she shares counter space with Tiho and, because Tiho asked us to do so, whenever he had to be out of town clients went to her.

I'm sad that Tiho is gone. He was wonderful. I liked him because he was a good guy.
I will miss him and the great job that he did on my hair.

I understand you have to start all over with some one new now....

waves 07-01-2010 05:16 AM

i'm sorry about Tiho, Mari. :( sounds like you had a bond.

i hope he will be ok... do you know what is wrong?

i'm also thinking... would you want to go to the hospital to visit - just a short drop by thing... or maybe send a card... i mean it isn't like he's on vacation ... but i don't know if that would feel right.

i don't know if you will want to explain...

sorry the new other person isn't doing a good job too. that is hard. i would feel obligated to go there and kind of stuck with bad hair. :( i wonder if you could have him just trim and could go to another hairdresser to fix it? that sounds traumatic though. you'd first have to find another good one.

i had a hairdresser when i was growing up who was really good. she knew just how to cut my hair, just right. i haven't lived in the same country as her for decades now - that's how i come i don't still have her.

Mari 07-01-2010 06:01 AM

Dear Waves,
I edited too much of my post.
Tiho went into the hospital for a gall bladder operation and died three weeks later of complications and then a heart attack.

The phone person said that they tried to contact his clients to let them know. She said his passing has been hard on everyone in the shop.

He was in his 70s. Every time I saw him I silently wished him longevity and good health because I wanted him to live forever.

He had an interesting life story that he told me in bits and pieces over the years. I'm glad that I got to know him.

Dear Waves,
Well, I had hoped that you could learn to tolerate the bad cut until it grows out. I still think that in two month's time you will hate it less than you do now because you can style it slightly easier than you can now.
Or you could go an entirely different way and bob it. Would a bob be easier or more difficult to style?
