Have you ever....
Sat down to take a pill, got distracted by something and then not remembered if you've taken your pill or not?
I'm sitting here, looking at a bottle of Valium and I cant remember if I just took one or not. BRAIN FOG!!!! ARGH!!! I'm taking it for spasticity and now that I cant remember if I took it or not, I dont know if I can take another one just in case I didnt take one. I guess I'm calling the pharmacy to find out if another 5mg of Valium would be bad or not if I already took a pill. edited to add: pharmacist said it's ok to take another one...maybe I'll sleep better? |
Sleep well . . . I imagine you will.
I do this all the time . . . only I leave my little dish of pills on the counter, walk away and think I took them, until I find them hours later! Some of them are for Crohn's and need to be taken at regular intervals . . . what a bother! |
yep. this is why I have a pill box out. when I take my PM pill, I put my AM pills into the box. No pills in the box, means I forgot my pills, and later during the day if i check the box, and it still has pills, it means I forgot the AM ones. Have to trick myself some days.
|
I also have a pill box. It has both a am and pm section.
|
Same with me, I have developed a system to know if I have taken a pill.
|
The only thing I take regularly is baclofen and sometimes valium for spasticity.
I'm starting to think that I didnt double up on the valium last night. I didnt sleep very well. Woke up this morning with a killer headache. (my brain really hurts right now) I had a mild headache last night, it's not mild anymore. I have to get away from my computer screen in a minute or two before my eyeballs explode. I'd go back to bed but my back and shoulders hurt so bad that I cant get comfortable. |
They gave me valium (10 grams) for lazer eye surgery. I went our like a light. They had to prop my eyes open after hauling me up on operating table. Then slept thru 3 hours of drive home.

If I didnt double up on Valium, I only had 5mg last night. I just did not sleep well last night.
I've been fighting a migraine all weekend. It just finally went away a little while ago. Boyfriend showed up on my door and dragged me off for a movie and a pizza. I think getting out the house might be what knocked that migraine out. (that and an extra migraine pill) He and one of his roommates took me to see "Knight and Day". (really good movie. I'm not a big fan of either actor, and I really liked it) My back is killing me from the seats in the movie, but the movie was pretty good...I think the pizza after the movie helped the headache go away. (I was starving. Boyfriend had never seen me eat that much before.) I think I'll put out my baclofen right now...set a couple of pills on my laptop next to my bed so that I'll remember to take it, and hopefully not forget whether or not I took it. |
If I didn't have 3 pill containers I would never know if I'd taken them or not.
I have one for when I wake up, one for the morning meds, and one that has a split compartment for the afternoon and evening meds. Bedtime meds are in the cabinet all bunched together. My mom used to take a boatload of pills every day. Swear I'd never do that...hah:rolleyes: |
Yep! I do it all the time. I have a pill box too but I have to pay attention. I may pop a pill into my mouth, instead of putting it in my morning slot. I figure might as well take it now.
Then I look in the slot and nothing is there. Did I take it?..or forget to fill it? I could write it down and check it off, but sometimes life is just too busy to do everything correctly. :) Like my thyroid pill. I have to take it on an empty stomach, and drink a full glass of water and wait one hour before eating. Now my problem is, what time did I take it? Can I eat yet? |

However, he has distracted me enough before that I took lunch and breakfast together, I was pretty mad...,new rule, hush until I am out of the bathroom in the am. |
I started turning the bottle over after I take the baclofen. So that it's sitting on it's cap instead of standing right side up.
In the morning, when I put my glasses on, I flip the baclofen bottle over and put my eyedrops in my eyes. (well, I put my eyedrops in my eyes, and then put my glasses on) |
I do that all the time, in addition to forgetting to turn off a stove burner, lock the door, get gas, did I put that in the file.
My worst time was not forgetting to take my pills, but taking too many at once. Last year I took 3 drugs in the AM, 2 of this, three of that, and one of something else. Since I sometimes forget to take them, and need them later in the day, I began to put a day's supply in my purse for just such emergencies. One day I shook out all those pills and popped all into my mouth, just minutes after taking my normal dose. I felt plenty sick by the time I got to work. It wasn't until the next day I figured out my error. |
I think I first noticed minor memory problems back in 2001. (5yrs before I knew I had MS)
I worked at WalMart. They used to hang the schedules on the wall, high up and in tiny print. I'd write my schedule down, and then it would suddenly change. I still suspect that management was changing the schedule after it was posted, because I was the only person having problems getting their schedule wrong. I have no way of really knowing if it was my fault, or managements. (I tend to blame WM management, because other people were having the same problem) I remember a couple of times one week while I was still working for WM, where I forgot to wash my hair when I took a shower. I'd get up, take a shower, and wash my hair and go to work. There were a couple of days in one week where my hair felt weird...and I couldnt remember ever washing it those days. I'd taken a shower, but I had absolutely no memory of putting shampoo in my hair those days. That place just stressed me out. Annoying, but a minor problem. Now I forget to call people for my dad. Last week, I was supposed to call Orkin to spray for mosquitoes for the Fourth. I didnt remember until thursday afternoon...too late for them to come to our house before the Fourth. He came today. Which, at least will help for awhile now. We still sit outside. The other night just threw me a bit...I just could not remember if I took anything. At least the pharmacist said I wouldnt hurt myself taking any extra as long as I didnt go over a certain dosage. I really hope these recent memory problems are just from the flare I'm still in, and that it goes away once the flare ends. (tell this flare to end soon!) I think the memory problem scares me just as much as any other weird MS symptom. Makes me think of my grandmother who had Alzheimer's. |
