Let's get HAPPY!

Hey guys!:grouphug:

I was thinking today and remembering when this site was just a tad happier.........it seems several people have actually left due to negativity - -which I totally understand and am guilty of myself......

As far as I'm concerned this is the BEST site there is - filled with tons of loveable, smart, funny people placed in a horrible situation (for the time being) - there is ALWAYS hope for remission! ALWAYS!
:Dancing-Chilli::Dancing-Chilli:

Granted, we all have bad days, but when the going gets tough we band together...........that is a beautiful thing to see!

So...............................just for one week can we try and log in with just one piece of good news? Ideas for remission? Pet stories? A beautiful sunset? A small kindness that someone has shown us?

I will always be grateful for this site! All of you have been so kind and wonderful! I hate MG, but feel blessed to have you in my life!

My good thing for today is that my sweetie brought me home dinner and set up a cleaning service for the rest of this week.........can't get much better than that!

Big hugs!
Erin:hug:

How nice of your hubby to do that Erin! I agree that a little good news goes a long way. Today was just a wonderful day. In the morning my daughter got the expressive arts award in her grade 4 class. In the afternoon my son got his yellow belt black stripe in Tae Kwon Do. I got to sit there as the proud mommy. :)
Glad you are back Erin to put us on the right path!

erinhermes 06-28-2010 08:55 PM

What wonderful news!

Hey sweetie!

What wonderful news! There is nothing more exciting than when something GREAT happens with our little ones!:D

Let's keep the ball rolling and see what other great news we can learn!

Love
Erin:hug:

OK - here's mine for today.....

Had to take truck in for repair - braced myself for the 'bad news'.. turns out no biggie. It going to cost less than 1/4 what I thought - - and it'll be ready tomorrow!!

Now That's Outrageously Good News!!

And then ...

it rained!! (haven't had rain for weeks) - - so I didn't have to drag out the hoses to water the yard! What a gift!

So I had a GREAT DAY!

allen L 06-28-2010 10:56 PM

despite my exciting day of hives and itching, I booked a one week stay in a secluded country cabin up in the mountains of NY with my wife. Huge place, the owners threw in one night for free, so 5 nights at a very reasonable price. I will be going end of July. Im looking foward to some relaxing time with just my wife. No other people

Hi Sue!

Hey honey! What great news!

As you know I live in Texas as well and it rained like crazy! It was so nice!:yahoo::Head-Spin:

Let's keep the good news rolling!
Gosh, I missed being here!

Love to ALL of you!

Summer 2010

My “ Let's get HAPPY! “

I will be leaving town for the weekend. First time away from home except to be with immediate family post MG diagnosis, I am a wreck thinking about choking, breathing, eating strange food and explaining neuromuscular junction malfunction (and oh …please NO photos guys). Fireworks??? Hikes???? Heat??? Oh my. But… throwing caution to the wind I leave Saturday.

Erin , delighted you are posting again, Your repeated encouragement kept me going more than you will ever know, Glad you get to see Lilly soon.

And to all a good night rest.

Leave it to Erin to give us all a bit of happiness.

My good new is this...maybe I am going into remission or maybe I am just having some good days. For two weeks now I have had to cut down on my Mestinon due to overdose feelings (cramps and twitching in my muscles)...and I continuously am feeling better, althought the MG is far from being gone.

Yesterday I went out with my kids harvesting Saguaro fruits, one of my favorite things to do. Couldn't go last year because there was no way I could balance walking in the desert, I could barely walk on a smooth surface without falling over...but yesterday I was fine and was even able to use the 10 ft stick to pull the fruit out of the cactus. Last year I could barely pick up small things or brush my hair let alone reach my arms above my head with a 10 ft pole. Hooray! I hope it lasts and even if it doesn't I am so happy to be able to go out and do something fun with my kids.

I noticed yesterday that I am actually sitting straight in my chair and standing up tall - this may sound silly, but I have been slouching and not able to stand up straight for over a year now - this last week has been great (the week before, when I started needing less Mestinon, I was not good because I was in extreme pain from the muscle cramps, I thought I was going to have to go to the emergency room it was so bad).

Thank you Erin! I look forward to reading more good news from everyone, and I hope everyone experiences a few good days with their MG.

:D

erinhermes 06-29-2010 12:30 PM

Hi Christy!

Hey honey! I know EXACTLY how you feel.....I was so scared when I took my first trip to New York, but it was well worth it!:D

You know your body - don't let anyone try and convince you to do something you aren't comfortable with.......they don't have to deal with the MG.

Take a deep breath, relax, NAP when you need to and just ENJOY! You deserve to be happy and relaxed.

We are just a click away.........

Have a GREAT time!

LOve,
Erin:hug:

Hi Desertflower!

Hey honey!

What fabulous news! It gives ALL of us hope! It really helps to remember how bad off we were b/4 and compare it to now.........helps us all feel better!:D

I simply do not believe anyone that says remission is unattainable - seen it happen too many times, so don't let anyone tell you something different!

Thank you for sharing that great news.......know that I am always thinking about all praying for all of you!

Love,
Erin:hug:

Hey Erin, what a great idea THANKYOU

I had a wonderful day yesterday, after 3 very bad weeks of in and out of hospital 3 times, and loosing about 6kilos in weight, it was nice to have a great day.

I went to a luncheon at the Neurological Council of Western Australia. It was a day to meet the whole gang, from Perth Bunbury and Albany, and hear what the future holds. I have had them looking after me for a couple of years, and they are an invaluable group to help out all people with neuro problems.

I was interviewed by the local paper as part of the story. But the best thing was offered to help out in any way I could, they were so happy that I did and will get in touch with me soon to start working out how I can help out.
Iam just sooooo excited to be able to maybe help people out who were once like me...

Don't think I have been this happy for a while :-)

Pat 110 06-30-2010 07:01 AM

Leave it to you Erin to come up with this great idea! Okay, I've got a pet one.

I have a 16 year old kitty I rescued from our local animal shelter when she was only 8 weeks old. She's always been very healthy, but due to her age she had developed some 'geriatric symptoms' as the vet calls it. One of them is she's not able to digest her food as well as she use to (I can relate to that), so her vet put her on a bland prescription diet and she was not a happy camper. Well, she didn't have any problem what so ever digesting my half a chicken sandwich she swiped off the kitchen table Monday afternoon! I think she was making a point. The vet said she can go back on her regular Science Diet can chicken for Mature Adults...smart cat!;)

Hugs,
Pat

Erin,
I am so glad to see you are back and I also am guilty of leaving the forum for a while due to things seeming so negative at times. I LOVE this idea and have to admit it got me to thinking about the good things instead of dwelling on the bad. I needed that, so thank you. Ok my positive is that last night I slept for 8 hours outside of waking up once for the first time since Oct!!! It was so nice to wake up feeling like I wasn't as tired as when I went to bed. You have always been a ray of sunshine since I joined this forum and I am so thankful you're back!!!

My good news is that my kids and I went to see Toy Story 3 today, we don't go to movies very often, it was cute.

Hey Pat!

tHi sweetheart! What a great story! :D I know how much I love my "children" - 5 dogs. And what a wonderful thin g that you rescued her from the shelter - that is my plan from here on out.:D

I just found a breed that I think is adorable and may start looking around for one, but worry about how some of my older dogs will feel.

Did I tell you that Lilli is coming in soon? I am so excited!:D
We are going to do the whole girlie girl thing and just have a blast! I'm worried that she'll flip when she sees me - I've gotten so big.......

Can't wait to hear from you!
Love,

What a great idea! I'm generally a happy person, but I do get down from time to time. I guess I'm happy because my husband is actually going to be off of work for the 4th of July! In our nearly 24 years of marriage he's probably only been off on the fourth two or three times. He's getting his big smoker out and he's going to make some ribs! He makes the best ribs! We are going to take the ribs over to my Mother in law's where other family members will join us. None of the kids have to work on Sunday either! Yay!

Speaking of pets. We have a Yorkie who is about 12 years old. He is so sweet. He follows my husband around everywhere. If my husband gets out of his sight, he will run around the house going into every room looking for him. We got him when the kids were pretty young and they named him Elmo. It seems to suit him. lol.

Thanks for starting this thread Erin!!

Hi Tbarney!

Hey swwetheart! THey have changed here - but hopefully we'll get our old "vibe" going. We used to really support and encourage each other, now it's more like siblings fighting..........regardless lets stay here and encourage the ones we can and ignore the negative stuff! Life is too short to dwell on the negative!

I'm so jealous about Toy story 3! I used to take my kids when they were little - now I'm just an embarrassment! LOL! Maybe when Lilli is down I'll take her. 2 weeks to go!

THank you for sharing your good news with us!

Love.

Erin and Gang
My good news is reading all the post from many friends on here whom I have never met in person but are such an encouragement! Thanks everyone! Also, Erin, you referred to me as a celebrity and that is good news also. Want an autographed 8x10 glossy?? Movie should be coming out at the end of the year, so I will let you know! God Bless each of you and lets keep the positives going!
Simon

Erin, About the only thing I'm grateful for today is that I didn't have to kill more than one earwig last night. I always have a positive attitude but I guess I'll have to be vicariously upbeat off of all of you. ;)

Annie

teresakoch 07-03-2010 10:27 AM

I used to take my kids when they were little - now I'm just an embarrassment! LOL!

Erin, that is the most fun when your kids get older! When mine were teenagers (I still have one living at home that age, and one younger), I could hold that over their heads: "You'd better behave, or I'll embarass you in front of your friends.....". Worked every time -

Trust me, Lilli isn't going to care if you have gained a lot of weight or if you are having to use help to get around. She loves YOU, and that is all that she will care about. I hope that you are able to take her to see TS3 - our youngest daughter loved it (she's almost 9, but she has Down syndrome, so she still likes to go places with her parents....)!

Thanks for the upbeat thread - we all need that from time to time.

erinhermes 07-03-2010 12:30 PM

Hi Simon!

:yahoo:Hey sweetie! A 8 X 10 glossy would be GREAT! That must have been so exciting for you to work with BRad Pitt! :D

How are you feeling? I awoke today feeling sassy - that is what I am grateful for! My leg has also gone down quite a bit - yay!

Mike and I are also going to have movie night tonight, so it has been great so far!

Have regained some of your strength? Don't you love all of this rain? I feel so sorry for other people who are getting flooded, though.

Let me know how you are when you get some time!

Love,
Erin

Hi Annie!

Hi hon! I am the first one to agree that living with MG is hard, that is why we are HERE - to support each other when the going gets tough.

When I was diagnosed, I was so scared I thought I'd lose my mind. That is when I found Neurotalk. Everyone was so kind and thoughtful that I loved it from day one. :grouphug:

I STILL love it here......it has just become more combative than before (in my humble opinion).

I am amazed at how much people who have never met can become so close and protective of each other - I think it's awesome and a beautiful thing to witness!:grouphug:

MY take on this is that this stupid disease damn near killed me, so when I was in the ICU all those days I decided to tell everyone I love that I love them and appreciate them, since I am not guaranteed tomorrow.........Anyway, I'm rambling, but I just wanted EVERYONE to know that the stories are great and we have a great group here.

Love.
Erin

Kendra, I'm sorry you think things have been negative. It's always better to accept people than to judge them, since we can't really know what is going on with someone. And a bad mood is normal, especially when someone in your life has just died or you just found out someone you love has cancer or you're so poor you can't buy food. I would like to be extremely positive right now but too much has gone south lately and I can't keep a good thought in my head for long. THanks for the kind words! I know Lilli will love me and it is MY insecurity over the weight, so I need to take a big girl pill and get over it! She DOES love riding in my scooter!:D

I still can't believe I get them for a whole month! :Dancing-Chilli: It will be like old times!

When you get some I'd love to hear from you some more!

Hi, Erin!

When you get some I'd love to hear from you some more!

I'm not sure what you are referring to here - grandkids, maybe? Our oldest just graduated from college and is back in Fort Worth working at the same company as my husband/her daddy, so they're both pretty happy about that! Daughter #2 is home for the summer after her first year at Texas A&M. Daughter #3 will be here for another year, then she will be off to college. Since there currently aren't any young men in the picture for any of them (won't ever be in the case of DD#2....), grandkids aren't on the horizon for a while yet!

I hear they're lots of fun - my friends from high school certainly enjoy them! My parents always enjoyed having the kids visit them for the summer; they're getting a little too old for that now, but our youngest may be able to still go and visit them in a few years (she has Down syndrome) - she is still pretty active, but she should be willing to be around Granny and Papa well into her teen years (something that the others weren't too keen on....).

Stay cool this July 4th - I know that's hard anywhere in Texas!

Hey Erin,

I'm so happy to hear Lilli will be visiting soon! She's going to be so happy to see you she won't even notice your weight sweety, so don't even think about it! I can't wait to hear all about your girly things! Glad to hear your leg is doing better. Hope you're feeling better too!

My son flew almost 3,000 miles to be home for my birthday!!! What a surprise that was...he's the best!!! We had the most wonderful 3 days, but he had to go back today. I usually only drive a few miles a week. Today I drove him to the train station, which is about an hour away, drove back and did some grocery shopping. Did all that and didn't have to take even one Mestinon! My eyes have been great and I've been feeling pretty strong the past couple of weeks. Taking it one day at a time...

Simon...come on, share the good news!

Hugs,
Pat

Ok, ok....in 2007, Brad Pitt and Sean Penn filmed a movie in the city where I work in Texas. I was an extra and got to spend 3 days filming with them and got to visit with Brad each day on the set. He is a real nice guy..with lots of money....!!!! The movie will hopefully be coming out around Christmas and is titled "The Tree of Life". That's all I can say right now....don't want to get in trouble! It was an experience of a lifetime...and my 15 minutes of fame! Look out Academy Awards!!! Hope that peaks your interest.....be watching for me....and not just Brad!!!

That must have been such a wonderful experience Simon!! Can't wait to see you in the movie ... and perhaps to hear more anecdotes later! (lol)

What surprises me a bit is that they filmed in 2007 and it won't be distributed til end of 2010. I had no idea lead times were that long in the movie business!

Hope you're having a 'strong' day!
Sue
