Weekly Check-In Feb4-10, 2007 Welcome New Community Members

Hi Everyone..Welcome to our new community members!..We are glad you have found us, and hope you continue to join us

Its getting colder every week here, and the boiler just keeps running and running..:( ..But..by the time I return from the PAN Forum February will be half over..;) ..Speaking of which Im getting excited about seeing you all again!

I hauled my boat out of the water, and sold the other boat that I was using to a friend..I worked on it inbetween the cold weather fixing a couple of leaks and mounting his outboard motor on it..I cant wait to get out fishing yet, and Ive got a lot of yard work to do around here, and hopefully I can get the garage cleaned out..Those are my goals for this year..I'll just have to chip away at it untill its done

I felt alot better this week..Pd seems to be a series of ups and downs..and atleast there are some days when I feel ok..My spirits are better this week as well..Other than that Ive been doing alot of hanging around..It just too cold to do anything right now

One of my cats is sick..Her liver enzymes are high, so the vet gave her a B-12 shot, and anti-biotic shot and some fluids..also an Rx for amoxicillion, and prentisone..She lost 2 lbs and still has not regained her appetite..Im bummed out about that..I hope she doesnt have liver cancer or something

How was your week?

2006!!!

Hey Steve, I think you are living in the past!!!! LOL
This side of the Atlantic, it is already 2007!!! Not only is it 2007, we are about 7 to 9 hours ahead as well, depending on where you are in the USA.
I think I am winning with my swollen ankle. it is ever so slowly going down. Today, we are going for lunch to the Devil's Drinking Trough, a restaurant very high up on a hill, with a magnificent view. We bought the lunch at the charity auction I organised in November last year, in aid of PD research.
Weather has turned frosty here now, it has been very mild, all records broken and blamed on global warming.
Cheers
Ron

sad day here

Steve,

I hope your cat gets better. Our pet of 17 years "Mr. Kitty" died yesterday of renal failure. This cat was was full of personality - talked to us constantly, always wanted to be in the same room as my husband or me - preferably sitting on one of our laps. He'd run to the door to greet us when we returned from an outing. He knew tricks: sit up, shake hands, jump over a stick, and 'roll over' (he HATED roll over ... lol) If you had enough treats, he could learn a trick.

He will be much missed.

Hi Everyone,
It's a brisk -3* F with a wind chill of -20* F here today. There has to be a warmer place somewhere.
I finally got my meds in the mail on Monday evening. I'm feeling much better. I even got 4 nights of good sleep this week. Look out now!
I hope everyone has a good week,
GregD

There is a warmer place Greg, right here in California. It's about 80 today! :D

Graduated yesterday with my Masters Degree at the ripe old age of 47. It was a pretty cool day to say the least. My speech went over really well which was nice. I'm gonna try and figure out how to get it posted on YouTube.

Other than that, I've been feeling like people with PD feel I guess. Some days better than others. But really nothing to complain about.

Looking forward to heading to DC at the end of the week for the PAN forum to meet up with everyone. Have a great week.

I'm going outside to bask in the sun...

hi

Hi guys steve loved the kitty picture, I'm an animal lover of all kinds. Here in canada right now we have wind gusts of 80km and snow squalls and freaking freezng -40 wind chill I like this thread it reminds me very mich of the one Scott and I had in the oldbrainorg called rendevous where everyone could just stop buy and say Hi to everyone and kept the threads as they were intended to be(not that i said stuff in wrong threads lol )anyway hi to all and talk soon :grouphug:

Stitcher 02-04-2007 07:49 PM

Jean, Kitty was a wonderful family member for so many years.

Ron, the Devil's Drinking Trough. Is there a story behind the name of the resturant?

Cold...yepper...here too. Tonights low is 2. The high on Monday is to be a whopping 17. And, I don't even want to know what the wind chill factor will be at the morning and afternoon school bus stop. I have finally drilled how to stand with your back to the wind into my school bus riding grands...although sometimes they add bury your face in grandma's coat

I have a dreaded surgical biopsy date:thud: Crossing my fingers and toes :icon_neutral:

Counting down the days to the PAN Forum. :Dancing-Chilli: Five days til I leave. Driving to Shady Grove, MD and then taking the Metro into D.C...40 mins...change to the McPherson Station, then a three block walk to the hotel. NO AIRPORTS...I think I am the lucky one :Grin-Nod:

That is all. I am :OuttaHere:

Have a good week everyone.

jeanb 02-04-2007 09:43 PM

Carolyn call me

Call me at the hotel when you arrive at PAN. Can't wait to see you!!

Dear Steve,

We had to pay the vet $400.00 to find our kitty:grouphug: has kidney failure and arthritis in her back hips. Was worth every penny. It is amazing how much love a kitty or dog will give you no matter how bad a mood you happen to be in.

Carolyn, your post's are pretty :Crowded: despite how:Sick: you seem to feel. Maybe a little :icecream: will help you get through your biopsie. I wish you alot of :Good-Luck: and hope the day of your biopsy isn't :rain: or :Melting 2: ice. We all :nopity: and we will :Demonstration: if the results of your tests are:Sob:. We will all pray and :You-Rock: girl.

Love,
Vicky

Colder than a Highway Patrolman's Smile here in Maryland this morning. I feel like such a sissy -- I grew up in Iowa and North Dakota, but the older I get the less I seem to be able to handle this cold -- or extreme heat. There is, however, about a 33 second period in the fall and spring where I'm perfectly comfortable.

My tummy is finally getting used to the Stalevo 100 -- after being off meds for more than a year (my choice), it feels great to experience something close to "normal" again... I space my pills out during waking hours then take my first one right after getting up. I think there's some value -- at least for now -- in remembering how it feels to be unmedicated first thing in the morning so I can appreciate the difference.

I hope all are well as well can be! :grouphug: I have an ortho appointment on Thursday -- we're removing some hardware from a knee surgery I had 24 years ago.

Rendezvous and Chit Chat

Hi all (and if I try to address everyone I'll miss someone),

Dona, this thread IS a descendant of Rendezvous AND of Chit Chat. Cloudy took over Chit Chat when Bob C "retired", I took over from Cloudy, and Scott and i joined forces in a Chatterbox Cafe thread. I kept it up for as long as there was interest, but the thread waned more than waxed for a while. Then Thelma and others (sorry, I don't recall off the top of my head) suggested a "Check-in," and that became popular and still is. A couple of years ago I had the genius (as in, smartest thing I ever did besides marry my BBP) to tap Steve M. as my successor, and IMNSHO he's been perfect for the job. He's even started the thread in weeks of personal tragedy or sorrow, to show us that we CAN keep going in life. i met him in person at WPC and can't wait to greet him again at PAN.

Radio Guy...had to chuckle...Colder than a Highway Patrolman's Smile

You should have seen me all four times at the school bus stops yesterday.

My heavy fleece jacket until my winter down jacket. My wool scarf around my neck, over my ears and mouth, with my hood over that.
Attachment 803

:Thats-Funneh: I looked like one of those mountain climbers, nix the goggles.

The wind chill during the day was somewhere in the single digits, and the temp never out of the teens.

And, this PWP was born and raised in Central Florida (fourth generation), moving north in 2003.
Oh! what we will do for grandchildren
Didn't even own a coat of any kind until my oldest grandson was born in 2000 and I came here to watch his sister while mom and dad were in the hospital for four days after his birth...and it snow every single day I was here

Alas, the lazy hazy days of Attachment 802 will be here in a flash.

Cool Cat!!

Hey Carolyn,

Be sure to get in touch with Jean. She sure has a gorgeous Car. He looks like he could be a Maine coon cat. I love the breed. I bet he is a good cuddler. Maybe she will let you cuddle with him a few nights and he (the cat, could be a she) will help you during this hard time in your life. Animal Therapy should be used more for Parkinson patients.

Love your use of the smilies.

Vicky

vlhperry 02-06-2007 10:43 AM

Dear Jean

Sorry!! Open mouth, Insert foot. I apologize for the comments above. I also lost a kitty this year who was my shadow. I don't know what you must have been thinking when you read my post to Carolyn and I don't know what I was thinking when I posted it. "Mr. Kitty" looks like the perfect cat. He must have been very intelligent for a cat and sounds like he had the personality of a dog. What a delightful personality! Sounds like he broke the mold of all cats beeing standoffish. I am so sorry, Jean, for speaking as if your "Mr. Kitty" was still alive.

It will be a long time before you no longer have the feeling that he is following you into a room or sitting in one of his favorite spots. Jean, I may find myself unable to support "PAN", but I still admire your efforts to improve lives.

Vicky

stevem53 02-06-2007 11:35 AM

Vicky..Thanks for your thoughts..It appears that my cat is going to be ok..She started to get somewhat of an appetite back yesterday, and was waiting impatiently to eat first thing this morning..Ive tried different foods and tried a jar of baby food which she completely devoured..and came back looking for more when she was done..:)

Jaye..I am looking foward to seeing you and the gang again, and of course meeting some of our other community members that I havent met as of yet..I also cant thank you enough for handing down to me the honor of posting the Weekly Check-In thread..It has been a growing experience for me both personally and spiritually, which has led me from the dire doom and gloom perspective of being dx with pd..to living a reasonably content and fulfilling live inspite of it, armed with a cache of knowledge and info to deal with and pass on about the many aspects of pd..the tricks of the trade so to speak..For that I am indebted to you, and everyone else here, because you have all had a very profound effect on my life..:grouphug:

jayne and steve

Your right jaye steve is doing a great job here Its been so long since I was at mgh I have been going back and forth trying to find it in some archives because when Scott and I both joined and caused a bit of commotion (totally unaware that we were really messing things up) I remember the rendevous thread being started for us to do what we wanted with it and try to behave ourselves and our big mouths. LOL for the life of me I kept thinking it was grumpy who started it but knew deep down that wasnt right since i know who grumpy was and when you said cloudy BINGO so thanks for reminding me I remember chit chat too but didnt know many people in there so unless I know someone or have something to offer (which isn't oftne I tended to stick to rendevous and I'm so glad to see in a way its still going Speaking of Scott does anyone still have his email our computer has crashed so many times we almost buried it a few times but thank heavens my daughter has a wonderfull guy who is a master at these things and now comes to our house to fix all the virus's I manage to drag home with me so I lost all my old email addies years ago but think Scott would like it here anyway thanks again and talk soon:grouphug:

oyster 02-07-2007 04:38 PM

have fun

all of you going to pan, maybe ill go next time. ive been busy, moving to my 30 acre farm, trying to work out ouur separation, dealing with advancing pd, going to aa everyday... i am grateful that my life is so full! all of these activities could be seen as trials, depressing, dead ends, but i'ld rather see them as opportunities growth and to experience life.
i made contact last week with the local pd network and attended pd exercise class. it was the first time for me to meet other pwp. three of the seven people there had had dbs, one was in a wheelchair. although ive read alot about pd this experience was viceral. a shock.
this weekend i'm starting IV glutathione treatments for my pd, ill keep youu posted.
yours
