Bad month for my Olhipie...

Over the past month or so my sweetheart has been treated for UTI and yeast of course. He also had a root canal with antibiotics which caused the yeast. His kidney's hurt and his left shoulder is just killing him. He can hardly use it. Transferring him is nearly impossible. We went out to a park Saturday night...we were in the shade but had to leave. He was loosing it fast...confusion and his eye sight...breathing...very Pseudo exasperation.

I could hardly get him in the car! I knew if I took him home he wouldn't eat just hang out in the exhaustion. I took him to IHOP, because he loves breakfast. By the time I got him in there he could hardly hold his head up. I made him drink two glasses of ice water as quick as he could...he started to eat and wha-la, he was starting to come out of it! Pancakes and ice water saved him from a emergency room adventure.

He is so weary all the time...can't go outside at all without melting into a Olhipie puddle. Today we are staying is...whether he likes it or not. My back and body are killing me from the transfers. Thank goodness for the Turney chair in the van and lift chairs in the house!

I hate summer for what it does to him and takes from him...he never comes back all the way after summer....:(

This morning he said lets find some snow and go skiing...can't wait for fall and then the snow so he can get relief!!

Turn the AC to frosty, and have a cup of cocoa!

make sure to stay extra hydrated. eat yogurt! loads of yogurt! it will rebalance his gut.

I hope you both find someplace fun to rest. The movies have good AC. Shopping malls are AC. restaurants are AC...dont let the heat make you home bound. Can you invite a buddy that can lift him?

tamiloo 07-27-2010 02:57 PM

Thank you all!!! His strength is just not there...I told him he might need to get on some Solu-Medrol...haven't done that for years!!!

Olhipie - kiss that wonderful woman.

Awww, we don't go out unless we have to. Of course I do not have to transfer Jim, he rolls on his own. Maybe it's time to look into a ramp for the van and have Craig use his power chair. This will not only help you, but keep him from exhausting himself.

Call your local senior/disability services to see if they know of any grants to get you a ramp. NMSS is a good place as well. They gave $2000 toward Jim's wheelchair ramp in the house.

I wish you were close. I have two sets of ramps and would lend you one until you could get someone to help you.

He is able to transfer into the van using his Turney seat...its the in and out of bed and into chairs that is hard...I wish we were together too.

In the summer we become very nocturnal. Only problem is he gets cabin fever badly...time for a movie I guess!! Love ya!!
