What's Your Favorite Song?

I think I'd have to say mine is the theme from "A Summer Place" by Percy Faith.

I could listen to that instrumental all day. I have it playing right now through my computer.

It makes me think of my sister (now passed away). She'd have that playing on her record player in her bedroom as she rolled her hair on empty orange juice cans! It just puts me right back in the hallway standing at her door watching her and wanting so desperately to be a teenager!

My next favorite would have to be "Nadia's Theme". It's also the theme to a soap opera that I can't think of the name of right now. But it's beautiful. Sort of haunting....sort of sad....but a beautiful piano and string instrumental.

What songs do you like?

Edit to Add: The Young and the Restless is the name of the soap opera. I just thought of it!

Since we're talking Musical Scores....my fav is "Lara's Theme", from Dr Shivago.. I named my DD after Julie Christy, from that movie. :)

My fav vocal is Perry Como's "Ave Maria".

ewizabeth 08-02-2010 11:46 AM

My favorite vocal is of Whitney Houston singing the National Anthem at a super bowl game, in 1991. She had such a great voice then and it was a great game too so the applause was deafening. It brought tears to my eyes. I saw it when it aired and I have it on a CD too.

SandyC 08-02-2010 03:14 PM

Judy, isn't that Bob Seger?

Blessings2You 08-02-2010 03:41 PM

Heavens to Betsy, Kitty! I love music so much, I don't know if I could even pick out my top TEN in each CATEGORY! (Favorite childhood song, favorite Southern Gospel song, favorite patriotic song, favorite oldie instrumental, favorite love song, favorite car tune, favorite traditional hymn, favorite classic country, favorite Beatles song, favorite song to play on the piano, favorite song my mom used to sing, favorite Christmas song...and the list goes on!)

How many turns do I get? If I just pick one from each of my personal categories, you might win a prize for the longest thread.

I'll be thinking about my answer(s), but right now I have to go listen to Perry Como sing "Ave Maria" (Thanks a LOT, Sal)

Kitty 08-02-2010 04:20 PM

B2Y, you just list as many songs as you want to. You can never have too much music! :)

pud's friend 08-02-2010 11:07 PM

Any good quality rave, techno, trance or slammin' stuff.

Honestly :)

There I'll be in an old folks home shouting for some kid to turn up the volume on Tiesto's greatest hits.

dare you to try it...

nemsmom 08-03-2010 01:25 AM

Pretty much anything country, as long as it's 1990's and earlier. Some of the newer stuff but not much. Other than that anything mellow. I can't handle intense music unless I'm really in the mood for it.

I love Christmas songs, but there are only a few that have been recorded in a way that I like. I love to sing them. I'm not big on instrumentals because I love to sing. So when I hear music I want to be able to sing to it.:)

Koala77 08-03-2010 04:03 AM

My favourite song?

Aww... "Ave Maria". How can you improve on that...... no matter who sings it? And then there's Amazing Grace, and what about Hallelujah? I do so like K.D. Lang's version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPJkiB2o0sw

I'm not really into classical music, but Strauss gets me tapping my feet, and there are a few pieces by others I quite like.

And then there's my dad's music! My dad played the piano accordian. He could play it standing up, sound asleep!! Snoring even! :D Whenever I hear something he played over and over, the memories come flooding back and so do the tears. "A white sports coat and a pink carnation" is the one that comes most quickly to mind. There were many others, but this favourite of his has a special place in my heart.

And like others, I named my daughter after a song. One evening I heard Don William's singing "Amanda", and that was that...... such a pretty song with such lovely words:

Then there was the keyboard piece my DD played in the Yamaha music festival when she was 11 years old. She won the 2nd place medal, after only 3 weeks of lessons...... that was special.

Oh... and I just remembered Danny Boy.... hauntingly beautiful.

I really like Irish ballards and especially the one that was played at my wedding..... "Forever and Ever" by Foster and Allen.

Before we were married we had a favourite restaurant where we'd often go to dinner. There was a band there so we'd dance after we'd eaten, and they played this song beautifully. Needless to say that one is very special to us. I'd have shared it with you, but couldn't find a copy on the Net.

I could go on, and on, but this is just about one favourite song :D

Twinkletoes 08-03-2010 06:08 AM

I haven't heard my favorite song yet. Still waiting for someone to show up at my door and sing, "You've Won the PCH $1,000,000 Prize!" :D

Guess I won't ever hear that, as I haven't entered in years, lol!

Other than that...

I was in a songwriting class once, and we had to choose our three fave songs. Mine were: "Something" by the Beatles, "The Music of the Night" from Phantom, and Willie Nelson's "You Were Always on My Mind."

I know I really love something when my knees tingle. Placido Domingo makes my knees tingle!!!

Blessings2You 08-03-2010 08:24 AM

Oh great, now I have to get out my Willie Nelson CD's...

Blessings2You 08-03-2010 10:39 AM

Dejibo 08-03-2010 11:22 AM

Favorite song?.... There are sooooo many! I will say Angel Eyes by Jeff Healy will always be one of my time favs because it reminds me of a dear friend who passed away when we were teenagers.

Blackbird will be my favorite McCartney song because it will always remind me of DD when she was a toddler (it was one of her faves).

And Patsy Cline will always remind me of my grandmother.

TheSleeper 08-05-2010 08:43 AM

Way too many to list, anything from Mozart to Metallica! Exculsions to rap and hip-hop, urban noise I can do without.

Aww Legzz.....my DDH used to sing this to me a long, l-o-n-g time ago. He had a really good voice. Whenever it would play on the radio he'd always sing to me. I miss that.

Dejibo 08-05-2010 04:10 PM

Let's not forget "You'll Never Walk Alone".
I forget who sings it the best?

Blessings2You 08-09-2010 10:55 AM

I remember the Gerry & the Pacemakers' version of "You'll Never Walk Alone", but I guess Elvis had the most famous?

kicker 08-09-2010 12:16 PM
