Get the itchies?

Every once in a while I will put on clothes and suddenly all I can think to do is get out of them they make me itch so much. I just want to walk around naked but I would scare people!
I have had on two shirts and two different pairs of pants to find something that won't itch so much. This happens to me on occasion and I wondered if this strange FM thing happened to others as well.
Ah the life being in an FM body!:D

oh yes!!!!!!!!! itchies all the time on my back...drives me insane cuz my arms don't reach back there at all... i bought a long stick thing to scratch with but not much strength in hands for pressure..wind up leaning my back onto things and trying to scratch it that way..in public i get really strange looks from people..but when it gets bad i don't care who is looking.... benedryl helps but makes one sleepy..and it doesn't happen all the time so can't expect when it will or won't...just another thing to drive us all more crazier than we already are.....impossible to ignore....add it too the list...good luck...linda

I have this happen to me every once in a while.
Only it's my hands and feet. They itch so bad when i get out of the shower.
I absolutely can't stand it..I will be rubbing my feet on the rug while i'm scratchin my hands!
Then i usually have to put hydrocortisone cream on them afterwards..

Itchies here too ((Wendy)). Not all the time though.

I think I'm in a major flare right now. God I ache, and my knees throb. My hands hurt. My knees are throbbing, especially the right one that I feel on a couple weeks ago.

Ahhhhh, yes, gotta love the fibro body. Though I wonder if I have arthritis going on too.

One problem about itchies is that I don't have anybody living with me that could at least put some lotion on my back. Sigh. Wonder if I can get spray lotion. Thank god there's spray Biofreeze for when my back hurts!

I will have to see where my mom got hers..but there is a sponge like thingy with a long arm on it just for putting lotion on your back!
She has severe dry skin and has to do this everynight.
I will ask her where she got it and let you know.

I was wondering if you can tell me where you get your biofreeze?
I have seen it on ebay..but not sure if i should purchase it from there..
Everyone that i have talked to that has tried this-just loves it!

Doody 02-13-2007 12:33 PM

Thanks you guys.

Kell, I get mine from my massage therapist. However, I've noticed that a bunch of pharmacy type places are selling it now. For instance, we have Drug Towns here, and they sell it. I'm not sure about Walgreens. My massage therapist isn't happy about that. Supposedly it's only supposed to be sold to registered medical people, I dunno.

But I LOVE my Biofreeze. I have the rollon, spray, and tube of it. Also Tiger Balm, I always have that on hand as well.

Check out some massage therapists in your area and I bet you'll find one who sells it.

Thanks again for the advice on the lotion applicator. I'll definitely have to invest in one of those because I'd love to get some lotion on my back.

This is where I get mine...

It usually works out to be much less $$ than locally.

Fibromyalgia and Fluoride Poisoning

The following is one of the symptoms of fluoride poisoning:

"Skin rash or itching, especially after showers or bathing."

See my post on the "Useful Sites" Thread under the "Fibromyalgia" section.

What a relief

I thought I was going crazy! I sometimes get the itches so bad, which usually happens after I get out of the shower. The arms, legs and shoulders are the worst. My skin feels hot when it flairs up. I went to a doctor about 10 years ago explaining what was happening to me. He told me I was allergic to water! I couldn't believe it, I thought "how could that be"? I have lived with this for many years and I have not pursued an answer because of the crazy diagnosis this doctor gave me. I just suffer with it on a daily basis. Thank you for making me feel that I'm not alone with this. I love this site and all the support it provides.

Itchy-pals with fibro: If you haven't done so, please get your free thyroid hormone levels checked (free T3 & free T4) along with thyroid antibodies. A low free T3 (even one in the bottom third of the ref range) along with T antibodies, is a recipe for itching.

If your doc balks on ordering these tests, they can be self-ordered through a Health Check USA lab.

TSH test won't give the needed info in this case ... and if free T3 is low, getting a little hormone supplementation there can really improve the itching, as well as certain fibro symptoms like tendonitis.

Best wishes.

I had the problem with itching after showers when on antidepressants for the fibro pain at the same time i was taking 5htp and my serotonin levels were to high. and what a pharmacist told me was it was a symptom of mild serotonin syndrome.

Hi newly diagnosed with Fibro and CFS!

Ok, I have been sick for a long while with aches and pains. I finally after many test found out that was Fibro and CFS. Yes, I get itches in my hands and feet to the point that I can't stand it. I don't find anything to give me relief.

Hi! I am pretty new here and I do have FM , among other things. I developed a huge case of hives and after 3 Drs. found out that it is Dermatographism, which used to be called "skin writing"...

I am on a course of antihistamines morning and night and went thru a prednisone taper to get them somewhat under control. It is miserable... I welt up, feel like bees or bugs on me... All this talk of itching w/FM makes me wonder. B4 I had the welts/hives show up, I continually felt like something was crawling on my skin or that it was so dry, it felt tight....

i literally coat my skin in Aquaphilac cream to keep it moist... It really works..

take care all....

Intense Itchies

I get this after water exposure -- I call it my "after-shower torture". Anything touching my skin (like a towel or clothing) will set it off. It lasts about 45 minutes, but only if I can keep from scratching. I used to apply ice to the itchy spots instead of scratching. Also a good dose of Benedryll before a bath will nearly prevent it. And now that I am taking gabapentin the intensity is far more muted, and I can ignore the itchiness. It has made all the difference in the world.

Hope this info is of help to someone.
