Many of us share a history. Should we share some historical postings?
Stored on my computer, I have quite a few items from the older Braintalk and MGH Forums which I copied for my own personal use. It seems now that we could use a little history, and I wonder if anyone tell me the proper way to share these. Greg? Moderator? Anyone? Do I have to ask each and every person whose writing appears in them to give permission to post them here? Do I have to ask DocJohn if I can post them here?
Is anyone interested in seeing some of these, sometimes whole threads, and in sharing some of their own? I would weed out anything humiliating or damaging as best I could, as I assume anyone else would, too. Jaye |
There are also many threads available online in google caches. I searched for some familiar and unique names and found long lists of pages that are saved in caches. But google doesn't save caches forever, so I'm going to save many on my computer.
You can find many under my name. I searched for Teretxu-2 and found many threads. Has Teresa found us yet? You need to click here where it says: "In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 5 already displayed. If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included." I also clicked "similar pages" and found many more threads, available in caches. You can find more user names in the caches and search for those, too. It doesn't work well for many name, though, and I don't know why. Jaye, I think if people don't want there posts to be seen, they should delete them after awhile, using the edit function. Someone on another board had a habit of doing that, and it was a shame, because her posts contained valuable info, but that was her choice. I think that if you make the choice to leave your post at Braintalk, then it's a strong possibility it will be seen in another context. I personally don't think permission is needed, but maybe others disagree. |
I agree
If the posts are not erased they belong to everyone who reads them. The forum is a place to share thoughts and information. A lot of good thoughts and important information will be lost if no one bothers to save and repost.
Yes please Jaye, do share the history you have, it will make this place feel more like home. birte |
Moderators
This is an opportunity to help us with something we don't know much about. So far I have general agreement.....well read above, please.
Can you help me out? Will you? Please? Jaye |
I did note this question and I had asked KimmyDawn, an Admin on these forums for her response. She wants us to wait for DocJohn to provide the answer to this. Because this is an issue of copyright, we're not clear on what the rules are. The initial thinking is that you would not be allowed to copy here anything but your own posts from elsewhere, because you would need the permission of every other person who wrote a post to copy their material here.
If there is information on a google cache, you could provide a link to it here (with a few paragraphs under "fair use"). But until DocJohn weighs in, we're not sure that it is permissible to copy entire threads that used to be at BT1 without each author's permission. |
HB, thanks for looking into it, I really appreciate it. There are still enough of us in touch that I think we can work out something interesting within proper limits. I await DocJohn's word.
I also look forward to the bank of knowledge and understanding being built by the present constellation of great people. Jaye |
Birte!!! Your here...I'm soooo happy. You were one of my favorites and I thought you were lost!
You have my permission to post anything of mine. Jaye, does this mean we can keep the official "shortest post on BT" which you have the honor of holding? That's a keeper! |
Hello Rosebud, nice to see you here too, and thank you - same to you - i never miss a post of yours. I was in Denmark all summer where I had no computer.
And Jaye, please feel free to use anything I've ever posted no matter how silly the subject or my input may be. birte |

You guys are brave. I've said some really asinine things in the past and not sure I could give such a blanket permission, but mostly it would be fine with me, too. Jaye |
Yes, I see no reason not to do this.
We need to try and rebuild as much of that historical record as possible, since it's apparently lost. So much of that information is invaluable. John |
Thanks for your careful and concerned consideration, DJ. Please come back and read as more history shows up. You'll surely enjoy it.

hi-de-ho
Hey Jaye,
An admirable effort. Although I am now assembling all my BT posts for publication under the title "Blow Hard and Make A Wish - Ad Hominems and So Much More" (kidding), you certainly have my permission to post anything I wrote on the old BT incarnations on this new board. Hopefully the really bad posts will have died a quick death, and anything that remains will at least give some badly needed historical perpective, no matter how quaint or dated they may be now. Your pal, Greg |
And awayback we go!
It's harder than it looks, to pull out something that was once in a graphic user interface, make it legible, and make it economical in the kilobytes department so I don't load down readers' computers. I find some stuff has holes in it, or the title didn't copy, or whatever, so I will edit as judiciously as possible. Some stuff is junk the day after it's written, and some might not re-read to well, so as self-appointed editor I'll try to be reasonable and kind. I should have a nice thread up later tonight.
Thanks for checking in, Greg, as I was going to get in touch--I can only imagine how your agent clamors for words to publish. I do expect 10%, of course. :p JK I would appreciate a word from anyone who doesn't like what they see in Parkies from the Past posts, but even more would I appreciate several words from those who like them. I hope there will be present-day reaction on the topics, to make it even more interesting. the "J" is for "Just an idea..." Jaye |
Jaye
I cannot think of anything I said in the past that I regretted; so post away. I anxiously await them! It's so good to see Birte and Rosebud joining us here. In fact, it's good to see the "oldies but goodies." Thx for doing this, Jaye. Peggy |
Jaye
Do you want some help in this task. I can look up for you or whatever and make your load easier for you ........I hope. take care Thelma |
historical notes

Hi Jaye,
If I've wrote anything worth reprinting here, you have my permission. I hope you can get a lot of what was at BT1. I found myself going back to search quite often. GregD |
Copy Away!
Jaye and others -
Like K Hamilton's clever response, you can re-post anything I wrote on BT1 that might be valuable enough to repeat, either written as DJM or, in the archives as Internetqueen. Jaye, I'm back on the KW-6002 study drug! After a miserable summer without it, I have a new appreciation for just how much it does for me. I know you thought it was losing effetivness with you just like I did. Well, it may not be as effective as it originally was, but life without it was bad - slow - frustrating. I thought you'd like to know......DJ |
Internet Queen from Colorado---that's a high IQ!!!
Glad you found us!!!! I tried to send you an email, don't know what happened to it--maybe you were one of the many that I trusted the BT1 PM system to get in touch with.. Oh well.
The first historic thread is about to slide off the page, by the way, title begins with "Our History" -- too much of a schoolroom title, I guess. Thanks to all for your permissions. There are some gaps in the files I have saved, but none of them is 18 minutes long!! Thelma, yes, send the huddled masses on down to see how a real forum works, LOL. I'm sure further needs will surface. Jaye |
