Flu Shot....Will You or Won't You?

Will you get a flu shot this year? They've combined several vaccines into one I hear. If you're going to get one....why? And if you're not going to get one.....why?

barb02 09-06-2010 08:35 AM

I'm the first one to respond so 100% of us are getting one.:D I have always gotten a flu shot, and have never experienced a problem. I think I would be crazy not to get one considering I am constantly around college students.

SallyC 09-06-2010 09:53 AM

I will if they have it at my Doc's office, at my annual October appointment.:)

Earl 09-06-2010 10:47 AM

Every year.

SandyC 09-06-2010 12:47 PM

Same here, absolutely.

Never have, never will. I'm in the "don't fix it if it ain't broke" category. I rarely ever get sick and believe it's because I don't toy with my immune system anymore than is absolutely necessary.

When I do catch a bug, it's short-lived and really only an inconvenience for a day or two.

Last year was the first time for me...my neuro strongly suggested it, so I listened for once:rolleyes: I will again this year too.

Never had one and I plan to keep it that way! I hardly ever get sick, even with runny nosed grandkids around all the time.

Every year.
Why?
  • My docs recommend it.
  • I've never had a problem with it, other than a sore arm when the wrong nurse gives it.
  • My docs believe getting the flu could put me at risk for a flare.

Never had one & hope to keep it that way. I have heard FAR too many BAD stories about them & if you are asking me if I trust our government to make sure it's safe???Hahahaa...Perhaps if Canada trusted it, then I would. But as someone else said, I also don't get sick so why mess with a good thing? Plus I'm home most of the time so I don't get exposed to many outside germs. : )

Yes, that and the swine flu shot. I work with the public now and the shots have never hurt me. I had a mild case of the flu about 26 years ago and thought I was going to die.

It's a cheap preventative and besides, the flu can lead to pneumonia and lots of other secondary infections that can have dire effects on those of us with MS or other chronic conditions.

barb02 09-07-2010 03:31 PM

You only need to get one injection this year. Swine flu is part of the mix.

mrsD 09-07-2010 03:53 PM

Don't forget.... the vaccine industry obtained a waiver from the gov't so that people cannot sue them for causing damage.

Anything that happens to you, and you are on your own. I believe the waiver pertains to doctors too and others who administer the vaccines.
http://product-liability.lawyers.com...-Vaccines.html
Most sites you can look up focus on Autism. But other vaccines can cause disability too, and have. Lyme vaccine caused huge numbers of people to develop an autoimmune inflammatory arthritis which disabled many.
http://www.lymeinfo.net/vaccine.html

Last year, our flu vaccines did not include the identity of the adjuvants in the vaccines. I looked everywhere for them, in vain. It is the adjuvants like squalene and aluminum that cause the cytokine storm and autoimmune results, not the dead virus.
Some researchers also believe that contaminants are contained in most vaccines and are also kept secret.

All vaccines carry a risk... they all warn now about Guillam Barre syndrome (GBS) for example. The other consequences, well, they often won't go into detail about.

So it is a personal decision that becomes more difficult to make each year. Now we have pharmacies advertising on TV about 24hr available shots at their locations. This is a pretty big step and will imply to people that this vaccination is common and safe.

What others do is their business IMO. But I don't see safety or necessity for this vaccination at all. We don't do them. My doctor does not push for them either, and did not offer H1N1 at all last year.

It is your choice after all.

mrsD 09-07-2010 05:14 PM

I'd also like to add:

As a test for your doctor's knowledge about vaccines, try this.

Ask exactly what is in this vaccine. Every ingredient.

Ask what the adjuvants are.

If you do not get a precise answer, then your doctor doesn't know and is not completely informed. Last year, the drug inserts for both influenza and H1N1 did not contain all the ingredients. If this season's does not, then I would not accept it.

Anyone giving you a vaccine should provide a complete list of ingredients. After all, your DRUGS have this stipulation.
Foods, have this stipulation. And so do vitamins and other OTC products (unless they lie...and are fringey companies.).

Shouldn't this injected, invasive vaccine provide ingredients too?

Think about this: Even your pet may die from the common vaccines it receives. Vaccination sarcoma (tissue cancer) and chronic kidney failure (from distemper) are two most common ones we know today. But other autoimmune diseases are showing up in pets in frequencies that are alarming!

I truly dont know what to do. My lung doc became really upset that I hadnt had one from last year when I saw him last. He apparently saw some of the devastation of those that got sick last season. He said I have to have one with my weak breathing muscles (neuromuscular disorder).

On the other hand I am afraid of getting it and getting worse with my neuromuscular disorder. I am pretty fragil. But if I got the flu that would be something that I couldnt cope well with either given my weakness.

Every year this comes up, and every year I start new searches on this subject. 2009 was the most frightening.

But just now I found this:
Aug 27th, 2010 from Australia:

http://babyboomeradvisorclub.com/201...0-flu-vaccine/

It never gets "better".... it only gets worse and more frightening.
And the adjuvants.... the real culprits.

And regarding MS: here is one other opinion:

Swine flu vaccine adjuvants and multiple sclerosis - Is there potential for harmful effect?

Oztürk S.

Ankara Numune Education and Research Hospital, Department of Neurology-1, Ankara, Turkey. serefnur.ozturk@noroloji.org.tr
Abstract

Vaccines are generally considered a simple compound and clinicians are sometimes unaware of the possible dangers related to the new adjuvanted vaccine approach. Due to their cost effectiveness and in order to obtain stronger response with a lower antigen dose, adjuvanted vaccines are preferred during pandemics. Adjuvants are strong immunostimulants and may be harmful in some special patient groups, such as in multiple sclerosis. There is a significant need for the effort among clinicians to heighten the awareness of the potential harms. In patient groups like multiple sclerosis, it is very important to advise vaccination with non-adjuvanted vaccines. Pure vaccine (without adjuvant) must be obtained for these groups.
