Wish ya luck....
When you are having surgery and a relative says, 'Good luck with that'....it leaves one to ponder....I hope more than luck is involved in outcome!!
Geez....I dunno, I know it was all meant well, but, the things we say sometimes!:o |
I NEED to stop reading.....
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100913/..._superbug_gene WTH is this??!! A contagious GENE....spreads hand to mouth....cripes. Do you want MRSA with that burger?? After this, I swear I will NEVER leave the farm.....ya think? |
This is not MrsA that I can tell from the press releases.
It appears to be another one...and has a new name. But details are lacking. Using antibiotics heavily is always a risky business. This one seems very spooky IMO. |
No this isn't MRSA....It isn't an organism...it isn't alive...how do you kill a plasmid?
The gene segment confers resistance to ALL but 2 highly toxic antibx.....(thus far, tigecycline and colistin). The gene segment is transferred from human to human the way any DNA is...think crime scene. It spreads from organism to organism...any kind of bacteria, fairly readily....from what they say....so it is the template for antibiotic resistance, to any germ we have already subdued....and can we say TB??? Ugh.... It is a gene....plasmid....way worse potential than MRSA..the deeper I dig on this one, the more upsetting this one is....of course, it looks like GSK has a patent number for some kind of compound that may slow the reproduction of resistant bacteria....I hopt this didn't crawl out of a petri dish somewhere. (Altho it is Darwinism at its best). I hope we have not bitten too much fruit off the tree of knowledge. I have to go wash the chicken poo off my shoe. |
Other than yahoo....cnbc has a story. cnbc...where else. Does one every doubt the interplay?
Oh, and I love the search for NDM-1 symptoms...symptoms??? Any symptom of any bacteria illness! Swill....I tell you....swill is never a good thing...anywhere. Ok, no panic here...nope....while we were busy with H1N1, THIS was stewing in the soup! Well, now I am more convinced that my surgery will result in my demise....I thought MRSA maybe, but this!? Take your household bacteria and just supercharge it with this DNA. The perfect storm. My next question....does it survive IVIG prep? |
My answer to myself....'probably'.

This new mutant is coming from India.
Perhaps India has not reached your Northern Midwest area yet? But if you do get that hand surgery, I would seriously do the Vit C to prevent RSD... Also keep your skin clean before the surgery...ultra clean. I used to see the most horrific results from knee work... people with contaminated surgical fields, and long term destruction of the joint. So this is not a new concern, yet. But in a couple of years, we will see what this Indian mutation can produce here. People go to India and other countries to have surgeries which cost much less than here. It is becoming more common every day. Thanks for posting this. But I don't see it impacting you YET.. wait around for 2 or 3 yrs, and that may change, however! |
One month old.
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/197616.php Sept. 7 http://wireupdate.com/wires/9498/jap...tant-superbug/ 58 cases in Japan, 32 mortality, 9 confirmed NDM-1 OK, so how wierd is it for a doc to be on medscape video.. 5 days ago. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/728039 This same article is everywhere....same canned presentation. http://www.timesrecordnews.com/news/...ound-3-states/ Another article... http://news.ph.msn.com/top-stories/a...mentid=4331263 Ok not to belabor the point, but this here and to think that it the DNA plasmid remains in Pakistan or India is absurd. I believe all US cases have a link to Asia so far.....that won't last long. It is amazing how little REAL news we get. |
I still am more likely to get a run of the mill or MRSA than this...but, this is coming....ugh.
I am also more likely to die of a drug interaction....frankly, I do think my chances are good....but, I do not understand why WHO and CDC ignores globalization the way they do. We are NOT ready for this development. Some one said this would render us pre-antibiotic era. I disagree...it is pre-antibiotic era with instant global travel. |
Note my mood change......harrumph.
|
I can only guess?
Ware! The human Plasmaoids!???????
Scares the whatever outta me, at the same time? Like you w/your hens, I'm doing my best not to live in a sterile atmosphere. Doesn't mean, my house and I aren't clean? Just not SANITIZED to the pentultimate degree. My feelings have been that you must, expose yourself to some cruds or you will become super-sensitive to much more cruds. I know I get lots of the rite boosters from the IVIG, amen...etc!!? But, I should not have to live in a glorified bubble either. I agree with you? That a drug reaction is more likely to be a problem of sorts. Ergo? We must be careful with the devils we know? And, those devils we don't!!!! Don't know about you? But...each time a doc brings up other meds? I cringe and let them know that each new med could be a new problem, rather than problem solver.... Status quo= the devils I know? I'll take for now, UNTIL things change soo much that there are no other options. It's not that I'm against change, or even constructive change? It's just that I had the 'consequences that no one really knows about'! Especially in relation to the other meds one must take. I guess I should lay my head on the 'block' of Damocles and just get it over with or something..... Hugs to all!:hug::hug::hug:'s!!!!!!!!! - j |
As MRSD said, this won't make news for a year or two.....when we get a major outbreak of some gram negative, bug, let's just pick on Salmonella, for the heck of it.
So, there are 2000 strains of Salmonella, most of them, harmless. 12 or so bestow nasty disease.....never the less, let's say, this plasmid gets into these 2000 Salmonella types....ugh...I would have a toxic waste dump in my backyard, and kiss my chickens goodbye... Poor Lars. Seriously tho....this is nasty....not good...swill dwelling crud that will become everyday stuff for us. One antibiotic for it, is toxic to the kidneys and 'fell out of favor' which means they only use it if you are going to die anyway. My house is not sanitary clean by any means.....it never will be.:o I am now, not using just any shoe in the coop....now it is going to be farm boots....and this is a dinky coop. Chickens poo, A LOT, and while they sleep, too, unlike us...well, usually. Oh, I will be fine, since, I don't think my particular area has a case, but IL does....ALL US cases were CAUGHT in Asia...they are not saying how many die in Pakistan or India yearly from these antibiotic resistant infections. Heck, they probably don't know....since they likely just call it the obvious. Count me out on any foreign medical tourism, cosmetic. I am growing old and ugly, thank you very much. |
India has a chronic problem with PLAGUE too. The Pneumonic type that is inhaled. So they use ALOT of tetracyclines there!
http://www.cdc.gov/eid/content/13/4/664.htm http://www.annals.org/content/122/2/151.extract Their culture is so different from ours... who knows how this new mutation started? |
I can't even think about this. I used to be annoyed by people who bury their heads in the sand, but now I'm turning into one of them. I think it started with the BP Gulf disaster. Getting old and just can't worry about all the things I have no control over any more. But not proud of it.
|
Just heard a quick blurb on it on MSNBC, or at least they were talking about a "super-bug", which isn't really accurate if it's the same thing you guys are talking about.

Superbug
I've heard about a superbug too on the news and in the newpaper. It is a bacteria that is widespread in India. They were saying that doctors should be checking people who have recently received medical care in India where it is widespread. It is in three states and Canada.
They don't know how many deaths it has caused. It is found in bacteria in the gut and in urinary infections. It occurred in people from California, Massachusetts, and Illinois. Three types of bacteria are involved. They want doctors to look for it especially in people who have traveled to India and Pakistan. And that it was spread from hand to mouth. Washing your hands is very important. And do not get antibiotics unless they are really needed for a problem. The three U.S. patients were not related but they all had traveled in India. I believe the one woman had been in a car accident in India and treated there. Maybe this is a different bug. |
If its in Pakistan,, its only a few mountains too afghanistan ,,, then into the troops,, might as well make this the flu epidemic of 1918,,, Do we ever hear good news,?

There are other super bugs:
1) super Staph called mrsa... for the last 7 yrs or so. Methicillin resistant staph. 2) Clostridium superbug from the bowel, resistant to antibiotics. We've had this for a while now, in hospitals. Previous Clostridium difficle was treated with Vancomycin. I would like to find out exactly what this bug really is...and the reports are still vague. I'd appreciate a link to the actual name of the new bacteria. Please post it if you find it. Here is one recent article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-10925411 Remember the hype and hysteria surrounding H1N1 which actually killed less than 1000 people in US? This new thing may be another media hype. But also, predictions about "super bugs" have been around for YEARS... one never knows when this will happen. |
Here is an article which says what it is. NDM-1. We are not supposed to panic. It is mainly in India where the overuse of antibiotics is rampant.
http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/healt...102866429.html Another article on NDM-1. http://www.aolnews.com/surge-desk/ar...plain/19589247 And yes, I know there are many out there. |
Thank you, Kitt.
I recall the warnings about mrsa were hospital/surgically linked for a while and then escaped to schools and gyms and even Pro Athletic teams, later. We can only hope for "the best" and that this will die out. |
Cy? IMHO...which isn't worth much?
You are probably more healthy [dealing w/chicken poo] than many who deal with PAPER! That's where I've felt all along... I should have West Nile? I don't. I should have Lymes' I don't. I didn't get MRSA...? Likely because I WAS on IVIG during surgeries? Those little nanobots go to work elsewhere when NEEDED? Care, caution, Anti-b's just when needed - not too early or too late...? And you are on your way!
Honestly? At times, I've a silly little image of the infused IG's acting like Pac-Men gobbling up the 'evils'! Just know that the IG's direction was diverted from it's initial purpose of just getting you better? Fortunately surgery does not come too often {WHEW!},and we get better..pretty well, and w/little complications- HERE? I'll cross my fingers for you? I've had 5 surgeries [invasive-type] since coming down w/my PN/IVIG necessary issues. And, have been on the IVIG before and after each surgery. Came out super fine! NO COMPLICATIONS! However? I sure have never gone to bed easily nor slept well that nite before! Can't wait, but will patiently....to hear from you in person! I'm gonna luv your descriptions of going in and coming out! If they were as strange as my own hospital experiences? Well, welcome to MARS!:hug::hug::hug:!s Good person! - j |
