Do you believe ...
In Aliens? I don't mean the ones from Canada or Mexico, but from space?
There have been SO many conspiracy theory's about it. Is the government hiding them? Do they know more than we do? And with the new series "The Event" on TV, I thought it would be fun to bring it up. So, what is your opinion, and why? |
After seeing that new episode from the Discovery or Science Channel show Universe, about quantum mechanics and the possibility of a "creator"...
I think that those arguments are the most persuasive yet! Dark matter??? (confuses me) and the new "string"theories of alternate universes existing along side each other!!! confusing too. If they rerun it, don't miss it! There were 2 episodes that dealt with this topic, all involving famous physicists, etc. |
Well I voted yes, im one myself. Just can not seem to find my spaceship! Actually no even though I said yes, geeze give me a break. When 1 of them comes down and shares a cup of coffee and a smoke with me in the morning then I would probably believe in them.
|
I voted no. i normally have a very open mind, and am quite likey to hear folks out, but I would think that IF it was possible, with all of the space exploration, we would have seen some sort of life by now. We have done exhaustive studies, and no one has proved a thing in many decades of folks making claims.
btw, why is it so many folks claim **** probes?:confused: |
I said maybe, but I agree with Dej......you think we would have seen one in person by now??? Of course, I haven't seen God and I believe in him/her.:)
|
Let's start a fund to bribe Tom to tell us the truth, I think he knows as a NASA employee that they have friends from "out there" but don't think he will tell us unless we pay him off. :)

:::First off- this is meant as humor- NOT to hurt her feelings:::
For decades people have hoped there was life on other planets, and that life was more advanced and intelligent than we are. ... not that we know Wiz is from another planet, we can all safely say- that is not the case.:hug::hug::hug::hug:<rim shot> |
***runs away to hide**** This outta be a good old fashioned smack down. :D
|
Sure! I believe there's life on other planets in other galaxies. ... but as far as they're concerned, maybe WE'RE the a-l-i-e-n-s, right? :) I just think given the expanse of the universe, the mysteries of the cosmos, etc.... it doesn't make logical sense to think we're the only living creatures. I mean... what a waste of a big bang that woulda been!!!
|
I voted "Maybe...", but I'd have to agree with Becca. For all we know, life floated here a few billion years ago on a meteorite. Maybe we're the aliens after all.
|
it's hard to believe that in all the cosmos that isn't some other living, thinking creature.

Don't forget that an "alien" can just be a microbe, and should not be restricted to our Hollywood version of an alien. -Vic P.S. I heard the same thing from a friend at JPL in Pasadena, CA. |
I've read of parallel universes for years...
I totally believe in other life forms out there...might not be what we consider "life". We're carbon-based, and our universal language is mathematical. Think about how many eons it has taken humans to understand the mechanics of our universe...and how much more we have to learn. I have a close friend who is a quantum physicist...he proclaims there is no way any matter could survive traveling past the speed of light. It would be crushed into oblivion. My theory is that this is OUR understanding of the universe, which we didn't comprehend until Einstein's theory of relativity. What more knowledge is out there that we can't yet comprehend with our tiny brains that we only use 10% of? What if there are other ways of understanding the universe that other life forms DO understand and utilize? Besides, when I was around 12 or so, I was staring up at the night sky...I saw a very fast-moving object overhead suddenly stop, hover, then take off so fast it blew my mind. So yes I believe... |

LOL and in all of our years of space exploration we have only explored a tiny portion of the universe? There are billions of stars in our galaxy, and perhaps billions of galaxies in the universe? Using just numbers like the chances of winning the lottery, it would point to some planet other than earth some where in the universe having some form of life on it? If possible aliens are only as smart as we humans think we are? They are probably also limited by the light speed barrier and a way to over come it? What would they think of our civilization if they could? savages? Think of what we may know tomorrow? |
I was asked what planet I am from, well Im a floater passing through space so I have no home. Right now our space craft has landed on Vegas and we will be returning back to earth sometime Friday!
|
I knew jmiller was an alien!!
Hope you win in Vegas. |
science
I read all I can about the beginning of the universe, watch those shows about what science had discovered. A creator, yes, I just can't see otherwise. I also do not think we are alone. Tavel in space, the light speed problem, will have a solution someday. The telescope WISE just found a planet with a surface that can support life. Why would there not be other life? We are all just big distances away from each other, and the universe is expanding away from each other. My personal belief is that the creator blew on this tiny marble size ball, and put all the science into place that allowed for the developement of the universes and us. As Jody foster said, " it would be a waste of space" if we were alone.. Time-space theory, string theory, and the latest M theory which Hawkins talks about in his new book, supports one theory to cover all. I think people would be afraid however, if some species came down to say hello. We are still very primative and warlike. We have come along way in science, and it keeps getting more exciting. ginnie

Gliese 581g...
Building 30M, Johnson Space Center, Room 3M10T. That's all I'm allowed to say... Tom ps - I'll show you them if ya come visit me... |
I'm thinking Earl is booking his tickets as I type this...
|
Ok - my last post might be mis-leading. What I have in room 3M10T is alot of astronaut biological samples in -80c freezers from the last 45 years. Blood, urine, feces, etc.
Is there life somewhere else? My computer won't type a sideways 8 but the universe is arguably infinite, hence life is infinite. The laws of physics keeps everyone honest - we can't mess with each other. That little concept of 3x10^8 m/s keeps us within our own little sphere of existence. Are we alone? Unlikely. Has this planet been visited by aliens? Well, this planet still has its energy resources (oil, coal, fissionable nuclear isotopes, water (read hydrogen), etc). So I doubt it. If we get visited, we're gonna get robbed. Think about it - what would the human race do if we visited an energy rich planet? Gliese 581g does look somewhat promising, but life could be an ameoba or a transformer type creature. Oh! By the way, transformers 3 (the movie) is filming at Johnson Space Center this week. It's an Apollo era photo shoot - they're hogging the Apollo control room and the huge vacuum chamber in building 32. They need 130 extras - but no way in hades am I gonna cut my hair to look like I belong in 1969... Tom |
I don't know Tom, but we are supposed to have some strange things here at Wright Pat AFB, too. do do do do do do do do(twilight music)
|
i think there could be life out there somewhere, but possibly nothing like us, and not flying around in spaceships
|
Thanks Tom. Now I am more un-convinced than ever. :) I wasn't booking my trip there just yet once you posted that but it has me more intrigued than before.

excited about science
Hi, and I am of course interested in what you are doing in science. I read all I can, even if I dont' get it all. I never did this earlier in life, but now at my age, I think it is facinating. There is so much yet to know. Right now, I am finally getting spacetime. Also there is much about other dementions (4th) that I am reading about. I still think hawkings is difficult to read and understand. ginnie

just an off hand guess, any life form that may exist there, if any, we would consider very alien. The thought would be you evolve to take advantage of your environment? |
science
Helllo Mrs. D I watched the show on discovery. I get confused with all the theories as you do. I find if I read about it after a program like on Discovery, it helps me to get it. Mr. Hawkings has a new book out, that I am reading now. It has been better than his previous books, for the lay people to understand. :D

It is impossible statistically for earth to be the only planet with life.
The general problem with public perception regarding other life forms is that our perception is based on our own experiences on this blue marble, which is just a speck of dust cosmically. The general problem with our eco-centric view of the universe is that any alteration in out collective beliefs that we are "special" flies in the face of religious dogma. After all, it was not that long ago that people were imprisoned when they concluded mathemtically that our solar system is not eco-centric but rather helio-centric. We shall see... -Vic |

I voted yes and here's why...
I saw something and I was with others who saw it too. None of us will ever forget what we saw and we all talk about it when we get together even after 35-36 years. We still wonder what the heck it was and still toss around theories and there's not one of us who goes outside without looking up at the sky on a clear night and standing there and scanning and looking to see if it's back again...even after all these years. It had an impact on every one of us that lasts to this day. It may not be life as we know it or as we expect life to appear but something's out there and it ain't us and it's waaaay more advanced than we are. |

out there
I am glad others have seen something too. I did, with about 50 others playing baseball in a field in columbia missouri. It shaped how I think about this blue planet and how we fit into this universe. The is a UFO lab. in Northbrook Il. they camped in our corn fields for a month after that with their mobile home unit. This has made me seek the shows on Nova, and read all I can about science. We arn't alone, and I am more than curious. ginnie:smileypray:

I am an alien and have been cloned to fit in with you all. Thank you.

Just adding...
History channel had a new show this week on Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio... and there were people interviewed who claim to have SEEN aliens stored there, from two separate incidents in the past. Hubby says the recent release of classified information is going to show up more and more on these science shows. It was pretty compelling if you ask me! And the science channels continue with Space documentaries often too. (I watch daytime more than primetime). |

I am bumping this up today, because the Science Channel is rerunning "Through the Wormhole" narrated by Morgan Freeman.
At 2pm will be the very intriguing show... about "Is there a Creator"? All of them contain the newest data, we have to date, on the Universe, Time, Matter and Metaphysics! This is a wonderful series and very thought provoking! In my area they are playing now, with the last show at 2pm. |
